Chapter 460 Only the Death Penalty Is Fit for Her

As Fiona and the others returned home, Charles dashed from the living room to the foyer.
"Mummy!"
Seeing Fiona, Charles immediately called out.

Fiona didn't even bother to take off her shoes before scooping him up. "Charles, Mummy missed you so much!"

Charles never resisted his mummy's hugs.
Having been apart for quite some time, he even nestled his face against hers before asking, "Godmother, how did it go? Was Jessie taken away by the authorities?"

The story had made its way to Charles's ears.
Transformed into a tale of Jessie biting someone to protect Chicago from harm, Charles knew the usual fate of dogs that bit and had been very worried.
"Why would Jessie be taken away if she didn't do anything wrong?" Seeing that Charles was looking for Jessie, Thalassa chimed in, "Uncle Xavier took Jessie to godfather's place. No worries, alright?"

It was late.
Fiona led Charles to his room, with Darwin carrying Chicago; they all went to bed.
Thalassa stayed on the couch, texting Kenny about the day's events and reassuring him that all was well.

Chicago was sleeping like a little piglet.
When Darwin came back with a warm towel, he saw Charles and Fiona both watching over Chicago.
"Charles, we really need to watch your sister's diet. Look at her cheeks. Mummy was gone just for a short while, and you've already plumped her up."

"She looks cute…" Charles mumbled.

Darwin, smiling, moved in between mother and son to wipe Chicago's face and hands.
"Mummy, can you stay tonight?" Charles suddenly asked.
It was a rare request for him to make.
Fiona paused for a moment, then nodded eagerly, "Sounds good. How about Dad gives you a bath now, then Mommy will take one too, and we can all sleep together tonight?"

"Okay!" Charles nodded affirmatively.

Exiting the kid's room, Fiona received a call from an unknown number.

"What's the situation?" she inquired.

"The target was apprehended at the airport," replied the voice on the other end. "The evidence you provided is enough to convict her."

As Fiona strolled towards her room, she replied with detached coldness, "Someone who could harm their own brother deserves nothing less than the death penalty."

"The charges against her are numerous. Just give us some time; we will ensure she pays for her crimes," the confident voice stated.

"Thank you for your hard work."

Fiona ended the call and headed straight to the bathroom.

On the day Thalassa was falsely accused at the alumni event, the bodyguard who stayed behind managed to locate the building from the angles of the photographs and videos. A quick search led to a person named Aurora.

Aurora had attended Kenny's alumni function that night. It's unlikely that coincidences like these happen without reason. Yet even more coincidentally, when Fiona received Aurora's information, she recognized someone in the section for grandparents—it was then she realized Aurora was the one who had poisoned Jessie.

Given her ruthless nature and the fact that she was living near Fiona's residence, Fiona immediately had her background thoroughly investigated. This unearthed the accidental death of Aurora's brother, which had led to her estrangement from her parents. Since then, Aurora had little contact with her family until this year when she followed Kenny's lead and moved back, staying with her grandparents.

Fiona was extremely sensitive to these timelines. After further investigation, the truth about Aurora's involvement in her own brother's death and conclusive evidence were uncovered. Kenny had said he would handle it, but Fiona had set it aside for the time being. Yet now, the cold Aurora had foolishly stumbled right into her path—Kenny's assistance was no longer needed.

Meanwhile, in Bay City, the temperature had risen significantly. Refreshed after her shower and dressed in her pajamas, Fiona headed downstairs first.

Thalassa sat on the couch, lost in thought.

"What's up?" Fiona sat down next to her, noticing her preoccupation.

Thalassa pulled out her phone, tapped on a message, and showed it to Fiona.

"Thalassa, you may disown me as your mother if you wish, but we need to agree on the alimony first. Let's meet at 9 a.m. tomorrow in Mr. Shaw's office!"

"Your mother?" Fiona's eyes showed her unmistakable annoyance.

The amount of money Thalassa had allocated to the Shaw family was already too much.
"Hmm," Thalassa nodded.

Fiona was at a loss for words.
She grabbed her phone and started typing.
Once done, she sent the message straight away and then handed the phone back to Thalassa.
She took a look at it.
Fiona replied, "No need to meet up. Just follow the legal process. Whatever the settlement is, I'll pay."

Thalassa massaged her temples, "I've talked to my lawyer. She's capable of supporting herself. She has her own property and savings. I won't have to pay her alimony."
She had been having a great time that afternoon until she got locked up again.
She had missed the message from Maria.

"Her house and savings, you gave those to her!" Fiona said sternly, "Doesn't that count as support? How can she have the nerve to ask for more from you!"
Thinking of the hardships Thalassa had endured with the Shaw family, Fiona was furious.
Now, Thalassa had finally escaped that mess and found someone who was really good to her, starting a brand new life.
But some people were just cruel to the core, insisting on dragging her down with them.
If Maria was coming to her for child support, Fiona would eat her hat.
Would she need to go to Justin's company to ask for child support?
Thalassa stayed silent, not uttering a word.
After a long pause, she finally asked Fiona, "Babe, if I don't go, do you think Justin would harm her?"

She had seen with her own eyes Justin forcing Maria to take the fall for him and go to jail.
Initially, Thalassa had hoped that after Maria's release, she would come to her senses and leave Justin, that pretentious man.
But, as it turned out...
She had gone back to the Shaw family.
Even though she had other options.
And now, she had returned...
When Thalassa found out, she was deeply disappointed.
But she respected Maria's choice and decided not to interfere.
But it hadn't been long, and she was on their doorstep again.
After all, she was Maria's mother.
How could Thalassa, with her kind heart, simply cut her off? Impossible.

"If you want to go, I'll come with you," Fiona said softly, "With me there, I doubt Justin would dare make any outrageous demands!"
"No way!" Thalassa shook her head quickly, "He's just trying to drag you and the Rhoads family into this. He's told me many times..."
Thalassa had never shared these details with Fiona.

"So you've been bearing the brunt of Mom's reproach and pressure, turning him down?" Fiona asked with a smile.
"I can't bring trouble to you," Thalassa said, dropping her gaze, "Forget it; I shouldn't go. We agreed to cut ties, and we should stick to that!"
As she finished speaking, the sound of a car pulling into the garage and then the engine shutting off was heard.

"Kenny's here," Fiona said with a laugh, "Don't stick around here; go home with him."
“Who could resist such an offer?” Thalassa mumbled to herself, her mood visibly lifting.

Fiona then ascended the stairs.

Grabbing her purse, Thalassa jogged toward the front door.
