Chapter 1009
That evening, Alexander learned from Liam that Mason was unwilling to leave the church.
When Stella found out, she couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed. But Mason was smart and had his ideas. Since he had made such a choice, she had no regrets.
After Father Ben passed away, the church's followers and volunteers discovered that Alexander had an extraordinary relationship with Father Ben. Throughout the entire ceremony, Alexander stood with Father Ben's disciples as a family member. His identity was easy to discern.
Soon, the church's followers all knew that Alexander was the rumored disciple who had left the church. It was said that Alexander had reached a very high spiritual level. His departure from the church had caused quite a stir at the time. Ten years had passed, and people had gradually forgotten about it. But Father Ben's funeral brought back those memories.
"No wonder Mr. Beaumont's teachings are so profound; he used to be Father Ben's disciple," Stella heard the volunteers chatting as she returned home, "Those old folks who were pestering Mr. Beaumont for guidance became hostile as soon as they found out he was the disciple who left the church. They said harsh things, even scolding Stella, accusing her of seducing the disciple."
"Bastards." Lisa suddenly got angry. "Mr. Beaumont left the church ten years ago, and he's newly married. What does that have to do with Stella?"
"Brenda, when I told my daughter about this today, she immediately sent me Mr. Beaumont and Stella's wedding photos. It turns out this couple is already quite famous online!" The volunteer lowered her voice. "Mr. Beaumont certainly left the church because of Stella, but at that time, Stella had a boyfriend. Mr. Beaumont endured for ten years!"
Lisa immediately changed her tone. "Even if he left the church because of Stella, does that make Stella a bad woman? If a man has improper thoughts, should a woman bear the blame? Is being beautiful a crime? It's so despicable!"
After venting, Lisa suddenly realized and quickly said, "I'm sorry!"
Stella laughed and knocked on the door. "I'm back."
The people inside quickly signaled each other to drop the topic.
Stella entered the room, and everyone pretended to know nothing, chatting with her about other things. She chose not to reveal anything and continued to chat warmly with them as usual.
Finally, Lisa, who had been defending Stella, asked, "You're leaving soon, right?"
"Yes." Stella nodded. "First to North Alabama, then to the Bay City, and then we'll be away from Armie for a while."
"It won't be easy to meet again after that," Lisa said, looking disappointed.
"It won't be as easy as now, but we can always stay in touch!" Stella replied.
"You said it!" Lisa smiled. "Let's keep in touch often, then!"
Stella hadn't spent much time at the church, but the kindness she felt there was more than anywhere else.
After staying at the church for two more days, she and Alexander were ready to leave.
They got up early in the morning.
Alexander bought the flowers and fruits that Father Ben liked and went to the grave. He knelt in front of the tombstone, wiped off the dew, and placed the flowers and fruits properly.
He said, "Father Ben, Stella, and I are leaving for a while. The next time we return, it will be cold."
On the tombstone, Father Ben's smile was kind.
Alexander gently touched it, saying, "I've read all your annotations in the books I copied."
"I'm glad I was once your pride."
