Chapter 970

In a sudden move, Darwin pushed Chicago, accidentally sending Chicago down the slope.
Below, there was a lareg, irregularly boulder. The direction Chicago was rolling in would undoubtedly lead her to crash into that rock.
At the critical moment, Jessie rushed out and used its body to block her path, effectively stopping her halfway down the slope.
She sat up dazedly; she had scraped her forehead on something, and blood was beginning to seep out.
"Chicago!" Darwin snapped out of it, urgently throwing away his cane and rushing down.
But as he approached, Jessie, almost instantly, burst from behind Chicago, adopting a full-on aggressive stance, baring its teeth and glaring menacingly at Darwin. It also let out a warning growl.
"Jessie! What are you doing?" Chicago immediately hugged Jessie. "It's Dad. What's wrong with you?"
Jessie glanced at Chicago.
It bared its teeth a couple more times, then as Darwin came closer, its ears flattened momentarily before it relaxed his aggressive posture. Then it turned around worriedly and whimpered at Chicago.
"Chicago!" Darwin rushed down, kneeling in front of her. Upon seeing the blood on Chicago's forehead, his face turned pale.
"Dad, I'm fine! Really!" Chicago quickly waved her hand to reassure him, though she intended to raise both hands but only one went up. She looked down in confusion. Then, a piercing pain shot through her left arm.
Fiona received the call. She hurried back from the postpartum care center. "Chicago!" As soon as she entered the house, she ran to Chicago, who had a cartoon band-aid on her forehead.
"Mommy, it's okay. Mr. Beaumont fixed my arm; it doesn't hurt anymore!" Chicago said, still choking up, with tears welling in her eyes.
Fiona looked at Alexander.
Alexander responded, "Chicagojust had a dislocation and a small cut on her forehead from some leaves, it bled a little."
"Thank you," Fiona said sincerely.
Alexander said, "No problem."
Fiona looked back at Chicago.
Chicago pointed to Jessie, who hadn't left her side, and said, "Mommy, though Jessie has gotten a lot fatter, she's still very agile! She rushed over to protect me in a flash!"
Fiona would rather Chicago cry when she saw her.
"Honey, I'm sorry." Darwin's face was still pale, and his eyes were red.
"Darwin, why did you push Chicago?" Scarlet ran over when Chicago's arm hadn't been fixed yet, and she was crying in pain.
Her heart was breaking. She initially thought it was just an accidental fall. But the guests playing ball nearby said they saw Darwin push Chicago down.
"I saw a ball coming towards her," Darwin explained, looking at Fiona. "I..."
"Mommy, Dad was trying to protect me. You can't be mad at him!" Chicago quickly said.
Darwin's expression became even more guilty.
"Mommy isn't mad at Daddy. Don't worry, Chicago." Fiona gently wiped the tears from her daughter's face.
Chicago was delicate. There were still some small cuts on her face that hadn't bled.
Fiona touched them, feeling extremely distressed.
After a while, Scarlet and the others left.
Matt, with a dark expression, said to Scarlet at the door, "Why did you say that? Do you think Darwin did it on purpose?!"
"I checked the surveillance footage; where was the ball?" Scarlet said unhappily, "He pushed her so hard; if it weren't for that brave dog, do you know what could have happened?"
Matt had also seen the footage. Continuing down that slope, she would have definitely hit the rock.
"No way! No way! I'm getting workers to remove that rock immediately, or I'll have nightmares tonight!" Matt said, pulling out his phone to call the housekeeper.
