Chapter 1147
At the police station, the cop said Darwin got into a brawl to protect some abused kid.
Could that kid be Darwin's bastard?
Christopher was floored.
He floored the gas, his mind racing.
Even when he pulled up to Emerald Pool, he was still thinking about him and Charlotte finally having a normal, happy life thanks to Fiona.
To him, she was a lifesaver.
If needed, he'd take on everything and deal with the jerk who hurt Fiona!
"Thanks for the ride." Fiona unbuckled her seatbelt and hopped out.
Christopher watched her frail, shaky figure, cursing Darwin in his head.
When Xavier got back, he waited for Fiona in the garage.
Seeing her get out, he straightened up. "Mrs. Solomon, Mr. Solomon had..."
"Saved a kid, I know." Fiona looked at Xavier. "Did you find the cane?"
Xavier was taken aback.
He thought to himself, 'Does Fiona find out about that day?'
He looked down, defeated. "No."
"Where is it?" Fiona asked.
"In a park. I went where Mr. Solomon said, but it wasn't there," Xavier mumbled.
"What park? Where? Who did Darwin meet that day?" Fiona fired off.
Xavier pressed his lips together.
Fiona added, "Think I can't find out if I dig?"
Xavier sighed. "A park by Aurora Hills. I'll send you the address. As for who he met, I really don't know. Mr. Solomon didn't take me, and when we got there, he didn't let Tom follow. Most of the time, I didn't see him. Actually, I didn't pick him up that day; he took a cab to the neighborhood entrance."
He paused. "I think Mr. Solomon also went to Starry Century that day."
Xavier's feelings were mixed as he spoke.
But he couldn't hide it anymore.
Maybe it was good for Fiona to look into Darwin's recent activities.
"Got it," Fiona said, "Go rest."
She headed to the elevator.
By now, most of the house was asleep.
Fiona first went to the second floor.
She planned to check on Charles and Chicago.
But as soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she saw Chicago's door slightly open.
She walked over quietly.
She saw Darwin, in the loungewear, sitting on the carpet by Chicago's bed, his head resting on the edge, looking at the sleeping Chicago with a gentle, loving gaze.
Fiona felt like a knife had pierced her heart.
Darwin seemed to sense something. He turned and saw Fiona at the door, momentarily stunned, then a flash of panic crossed his eyes.
But Fiona caught it.
He got up, tiptoed out, and gently closed the door.
"Why are you home so late?" Darwin noticed the rain on Fiona.
Fiona didn't speak, just looked at him.
She wanted to catch any unusual signs from Darwin's expression and behavior.
