Chapter 703 To the Island
Fiona didn’t tell Charles and Chicago about her one-week business trip until the next morning.
Chicago immediately showed great unease.
Chicago approached Fiona and hugged her tightly. "Can't I take a day off and go with you?"
"No." Fiona patted Chicago's head. "Don't worry, my sweetie. I will come back immediately after my work is done. Aunt and Godmother will take good care of you until mommy comes back. When I come back, I will bring gifts for you and your brother, okay?"
Chicago buried her head in Fiona's arms.
She remained silent for a while until Charles spoke up, "Chicago, hurry up and finish your breakfast. We'll be late for school, and Uncle Xavier is still waiting for us."
Chicago stayed silent for about two seconds.
She reluctantly replied and then returned to the table, eating her breakfast sullenly.
Fiona wanted to say something, but Charles shook his head at her.
They couldn't trap Fiona here with them because of Darwin’s incident, right?
During this time, Fiona had delegated all the matters that didn't require her personal presence.
But now, for this trip, she had to go herself.
Fiona made an apologetic expression toward Charles.
Chicago finished her breakfast.
Fiona checked the time and decided to take them to school personally.
After that, she rushed to the airport.
After a three-hour flight, Fiona arrived at the layover airport.
She would have to take a seaplane to get to the island.
As soon as she got off the plane, Fiona saw Henry, who had obviously gotten quite tanned.
"Fiona, you've worked hard!" Henry jogged over.
"You've gotten so tan." Fiona sighed in disbelief. She could barely recognize him.
"I have no choice." Henry looked helpless. "Every time I apply sunscreen, I have an allergic reaction."
"Tell me the specific situation."
After finishing the small talk, Fiona asked Henry about the specific situation on his side as they walked toward the seaplane.
"We're almost there, I'll tell you when we arrive at the location."
Half an hour later, the seaplane arrived at a stunningly beautiful area of the sea. The entire sea appeared like blue glass, with tropical fish and coral clearly visible.
"We had already obtained the court order to forcefully evict the squatters on our island. But unexpectedly, they claimed that there were rare coral species in the waters within our island area. They insisted on designating it as a protected marine area and prohibited any construction in the area," Henry said angrily, pointing at a large expanse of beautiful coral in the distance.
Originally, Henry thought they were just causing trouble. Little did he know that they had directly called in experts in this field and even alerted the local media. They also found some experts in wildlife conservation and spread their wrongdoings online. Now, there was a large gathering of all kinds of protection associations on the island, holding banners and livestreaming our base all day long.
In this era of the internet, it was both the best and worst time. The good thing was that information technology was advanced, but the bad thing was that people online were easily influenced and unable to differentiate between right and wrong. They supported whoever they thought was right. Henry had had enough of the internet opinion. He didn't tell Fiona that he had been pelted with mud by extremists just last week.
"So, you're saying they have been primed with good advice?" Fiona grabbed onto the important information. "In other words, they can't discover these things themselves with their own abilities."
"Of course not. Most of them have been on this island for ten or twenty years and have never discovered any rare coral species in the nearby waters," Henry said angrily.
"Have you found out who the mastermind is?" Fiona asked. If they couldn't resolve the issue with the coral and the mastermind behind, there might be other problems arising. They needed to be more proactive.
"No," Henry replied nervously. "I vaguely heard that it's the son-in-law of an influential woman. He's probably not from the island. I've never seen him before."
Fiona didn't say anything. After flying around the island once, Fiona had to admit that Darwin had a great eye for choosing this island. It was truly magnificent. Throughout the journey, they saw so many islands, but this one was stood out among all. The sea was beautiful, and the beach was
beautiful too. The island was also quite spacious. According to Henry, it had a small but thriving rainforest within.
After getting off the plane, Fiona stepped on the soft white sand. She made a few phone calls.
"You have three days to find this son-in-law," Fiona said before hanging up. She set a deadline for them.
"Hello!"
At that moment, someone came over making a fuss. Qin Hao and the other bodyguards became alert. The people had different skin colors and were carrying banners with an aggressive attitude. The one leading them was a very fit woman wearing locally inspired clothing.
"What are you all doing?" Henry immediately protected Fiona when he saw the person who had attacked him last time. "I warn you, if you harm anyone again, I will call the police!"
Fiona frowned slightly. "What happened? Why did they hurt someone?"
"I'll explain later."
Meanwhile, the woman in charge had walked a few steps closer. Her gaze fell on Fiona. "Are you, his boss?"
"Yes." Fiona took a step forward, standing in front of Henry.
"Fiona, they are unreasonable. Be careful." Henry was very worried.
Fiona smiled lightly. "Don't worry, they are here to protest in order to protect that coral, not to go to jail."
She and Henry spoke in English.
Many people among the protesters understood.
"I am Aura Blackwood, an indigenous resident of this island!" The leading woman looked at Fiona and introduced herself. "If you are the boss, I would like to talk to you about the indigenous people and this island!"
Fiona looked at her. "Why are you so arrogant?" she asked.
Aura was taken aback.
"This is not a way to ask for help," Fiona continued, "Do you think that by having someone give you advice, tell you the significance of that coral, and bring in these righteous people to protest, you are standing on the side of justice?"
Aura's expression changed and her eyebrows furrowed.
She could feel that this woman was different, very different from the people who had come to the island before.
"Our company developed this island in accordance with international law. Of course, if that coral reef is really as valuable as you say, I would be more than willing to cooperate with the local community to protect and maintain it." Fiona stared at Aura. "But what does that have to do with you people who are occupying property that does not belong to you? Based on your rudeness and barbarism, I will not allow you to stay here even if I don’t develop this island." "
