Chapter 1418

Fiona couldn't help but chuckle.

Once Charles was in the bedroom, Fiona noticed the mess in his study—papers scattered all over the floor. She tiptoed in.

After quietly closing the bedroom door, she started picking up the papers.

She picked up a couple and realized they were all test papers.

Looking closer, she saw that Charles had been working on past years' Bay City High school entrance exam.

She glanced towards the bedroom.

For some reason, Charlotte suddenly came to Fiona's mind.

Fiona thought about Burl's complaints and couldn't help but laugh.

It seemed Burl was wrong. Not only did Melissa and Chicago like Charlotte, but Charles did too.

Fiona put the test papers back where she found them, deciding not to tidy up for Charles. She quietly slipped out of his room.

She returned to the master bedroom.

Changing into some comfortable pajamas, she felt wide awake.

She walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window.

The night was beautiful, with a bright moon and scattered stars.

Fiona couldn't remember the last time she felt this peaceful.

It was like finding calm after a storm.

Meanwhile, a plane from Cyberia was heading towards the distant East.

The next day.

No one woke the kids on the first day of their vacation, and since they had all stayed up late, even Charlotte slept in until nine.

During holidays, breakfast at Fiona's house was always buffet-style.

No matter how late they got up, there was always something to eat.

The kids got up one by one and made their way to the dining room for breakfast.

Fiona came downstairs with a small suitcase.

"Mommy, are you going on a trip?" Chicago asked immediately.

Fiona nodded. "I'll be away for about a week."

"That long?" Chicago's face fell. "We can't come with you, can we?"

"Yeah." Fiona set her suitcase down and walked to the dining room. "But, when I come back, I'll bring you all some gifts."

Chicago had plenty of gifts already.

More than gifts, she just wanted Fiona to come back soon.

"Not even gifts make you happy?" Fiona laughed, pinching Chicago's cheek. "I promise it'll be something you really, really want."

Chicago thought to herself.

What she really, really wanted was for Daddy to come home, but that was impossible, because there hadn't been any news at all.

"Just be safe," Chicago said, looking at Fiona with sad eyes. "Come back as soon as you can. Remember, I miss you every second."

"Okay." Fiona patted her head and kissed her forehead. "You all need to help take care of Melissa."

Charlotte nodded, as well as Charles. After giving her instructions, Fiona left, with Chicago's tearful eyes watching her go.

She put her suitcase in the trunk.

The car slowly pulled away from Emerald Pool, the bright sunlight shining on the house Fiona had once been reluctant to accept.

It hadn't been that long, but the events of that day in the Solomon Group CEO's office were already fading from Fiona's memory.
