Chapter 1390

Thalassa's face softened with a touch of warmth.

And just like that, since her apartment got flooded, Rose naturally moved into Emerald Pool.

The next day was the last day before the kids' winter break, and Fiona was in a great mood. She went to an early meeting at work and decided to leave early.

Rose tagged along.

Fiona drove to the flower market and ordered a bunch of gorgeous flowers to be delivered to Emerald Pool.

Then they hit the market to buy Janna's favorite fruits, veggies, and fresh meat.

Rose had never been to a place like this before, so she stuck close to Fiona.

After they got everything, Fiona told Rose to head back to Emerald Pool and give the groceries to the staff. Fiona was going to pick up the kids.

Rose did as she was told.

Fiona went to meet up with Thalassa and Melissa.

Thalassa always had a thing for quirky traditions.

For example, even though Melissa missed her siblings' first day of school, she was determined to be there for their first winter break. To celebrate, Thalassa picked out a bright red outfit for Melissa, making it super festive.

At that moment, Grandma Carey joined them too.

She looked much better, and seeing the kids brightened her day, lifting her spirits.

After getting their winter break assignments, it didn't take long for the kids to start showing up at the school gate.

Usually, Chicago would be the first to dash out.

But not today.

Fiona waited for a while, but when she still didn't see Chicago, she and Thalassa decided to head inside.

Soon, Fiona spotted Chicago.

Chicago was standing in front of the bulletin board.

Staff members were taking down last year's rankings and putting up the new ones.

The top student in each grade had a big section with their photo displayed.

This year, without Ethan's guidance and strictness, Chicago's ranking had dropped to fifth place.

Charlotte was still firmly in first, holding a big lead in total points.

In Ethan's grade, a very spirited girl had taken his spot.

Seeing this, Fiona and Thalassa exchanged a look.

Chicago had a sense of loneliness they'd never seen before. "Sweetie," Fiona called out.

Chicago flinched, then turned her head. When she saw Fiona, she walked over with her head down.

She buried her face in Fiona's chest. "Mom, does Ethan hate me?"

"Of course not. He taught you so patiently and even took you to North Alabama," Fiona reassured her.

"But he never replies to my messages," Chicago said, her lips quivering as she fought back tears.

Fiona gently patted Chicago's back.

She didn't know how to comfort Chicago.

Chicago was smart; the usual comforting words for kids wouldn't work on her.

Fiona said, "If you never see him again, whether he replies or not doesn't matter much. If you do see him again, you can ask him why he didn't reply. Ethan will give you an answer."

"We will see each other again!" Chicago sobbed. "I don't want to never see him again..."

Fiona kept patting her back gently.

Fiona hoped that when Chicago learned the truth about why Ethan left, she wouldn't hate her father.
