Chapter 62 She Has Bad Intentions!

"Where's it at?" Fiona asked, all gentle-like.

"Over there!" The little girl spun around and pointed at the fountain nearby.

It wasn't far at all.

Fiona shot a glance at Brooke. "Mrs. Solomon, I'm gonna help her grab a ball. Can you hang tight here?"

"Sure thing." Brooke nodded. "Be careful."

"Got it!" Fiona nodded back.

She took the little girl's hand and headed to the fountain.

Just as she was about to snag the ball, a sudden shout came from behind.

Fiona whipped around.

She saw some kid laughing and pushing Brooke's wheelchair, making a run for it.

"What the heck are you doing!" Fiona yelled and took off after him.

The kid, either freaked out or for some other reason, let go when he hit a downhill slope.

The wheelchair zoomed down the hill.

"Mrs. Solomon!" Fiona almost grabbed the wheelchair.

At the last second, a tall dude rushed in from the side and stopped the runaway wheelchair.

Just a bit more, and Brooke would've hit the ground.

Fiona ran over.

Brooke was scared out of her mind, tears streaming down her pale face.

"Oh my God!" The caregiver ran over, totally stunned by the scene.

"Call a doctor!" Fiona told the caregiver while trying to calm Brooke down.

"On it!"

"Mrs. Solomon, it's okay!" Fiona gently reassured her.

After a bit, Brooke's nerves started to settle thanks to Fiona's soothing words.

"Fiona, I'm so scared!" Brooke said, all teary-eyed.

Fiona quickly hugged her and gently patted her back. "It's okay now!"

She was kicking herself.

What was she thinking?

How could she leave Brooke alone for some random kid's ball!

After calming Brooke down, she turned around, stood up quickly, and thanked the guy who stopped the wheelchair, "Sir, thank you so much. Is your leg okay?"

The guy was tall and built, at least 6'3", rocking sunglasses and a buzz cut.

He looked pretty intimidating.

But he didn't seem fazed by Fiona's thanks.

Just then, an elegant old lady with silver hair walked over.

"He doesn't speak the local lingo. Don't worry, Stuart's tough. Last time he got hit by a car, he just got a few scrapes," she said with a kind smile.

Stuart Wheeler didn't get it, but he could tell the old lady was praising him.

He puffed up with pride.

Fiona's nerves eased a bit.

Right then, the medical team rushed over.

Fiona pulled out her business card and handed it to the old lady with both hands. "Sorry for the trouble. This is my card. If Stuart has any issues, let me know about the medical bills and lost wages."

Stuart didn't get it.

But seeing the card, he got a bit wary.

Before he could figure it out, the old lady had already taken the card. "Alright, go take care of that old woman."

"Thanks a ton." Fiona nodded before heading back.

After they left, Stuart muttered in another language, "Didn't you say not to take random business cards?"

"How's this random?" The old lady looked at the distant figure with a kind smile. "What a lovely girl. If I had a granddaughter like that, I'd die happy!"

She sighed. "It's my bad luck to have a bunch of useless sons and grandsons."

Stuart kept his mouth shut.

"We still visiting the patient?" he asked.

"You're asking me? Did you even find the way?" The elegant old lady suddenly snapped.

Stuart quickly scanned the area and pointed to a path leading to the independent care section. "Over there!"

Brooke was a bit shaken up.

But she was okay.

She had just taken her meds and dozed off.

The Solomon family showed up.

Before Fiona could react, Anniston slapped her. "How can you let that happen to her? If something happens to her, you'll be doomed."

"Mom!"

Fiona's ears were ringing.

She didn't even notice when Darwin appeared.

"What are you doing!" Darwin stepped in front of Fiona.

"She almost killed your grandma!" Anniston yelled.

"Aunt Anniston, Ms. Woods didn't do it on purpose. Let's check on Grandma Solomon first!" Hathaway stepped in to support Anniston.

"Fiona, I'll deal with you later!" Anniston snapped and stormed into the ward.

The rest of the Solomon clan—Darwin's uncles, aunts, cousins, and siblings—all filed in.

Fiona could catch bits like "useless" and "needs to be taught a lesson."

Her cheek was still stinging.

But her mind was sharp.

Today's events were fishy as hell.

Anniston's sudden decision to let her take care of Brooke was fishy.

The two kids showing up at almost the same time was fishy.

The speed at which the Solomon family arrived was also fishy.

At this time, the city was already starting to have traffic jams.

It should've taken them nearly two hours to get here.

But from the time Brooke had the accident until now, it had only been about an hour.

"Let me see your face." Darwin tried to lift Fiona's chin.

"It's fine." Fiona dodged him.

"Go in and check." Darwin's face was stern, and he called out to Henry, "Get her an ice pack."

"Yes." Henry nodded.

He looked really worried.

Darwin then went into the ward.

"Ms. Woods," Henry said with a pained look, "Ms. Garcia was way too harsh!"

Fiona said, "Keep your voice down, or you'll get slapped too."

Henry shut his mouth.

He quickly found an ice pack.

By now, there was already a commotion in the ward.

"She has bad intentions. Seeing you and Hathaway doing well, and everyone blessing them, she just wants to cause trouble. Don't think I don't know what she's up to. If something happens to your grandma, the wedding will have to be postponed!" Anniston ranted.

Fiona leaned against the wall.

If it weren't for Stuart's sudden appearance, Brooke would have at least suffered a head injury.

In severe cases, fractures were possible.

So, was this Anniston's goal?

Using Brooke as a pawn to make Darwin hate her and drive her away?

"Ms. Woods, here," Henry handed over the ice pack and whispered, "Ms. Garcia is just making stuff up. You've been so good to Mrs. Solomon, how could you harm her?"

Fiona pressed the ice pack to her cheek.

It was absurd and unforgivable.

How could Anniston use Brooke as a pawn to drive her away?

What if Brooke had died?

Fiona felt a chill down her spine.

Her eyes darkened.

This matter couldn't be left unresolved.
