Chapter 880

After Alexander returned, he became restless.

Every day, he would repent before God night after night.

Father Ben couldn't forget the moment when Alexander knelt before him, confessing his impure thoughts, which made him question his faith in God, filled with doubts and anger.

Alexander always seemed the most approachable since childhood. However, only Father Ben knew that Alexander was more stubborn than anyone else.

No one could change what he had decided once it was made up.

Father Ben couldn't convince him, so he stopped trying.

Thus, their decade-long friendship came to an end.

Alexander returned to society.

Father Ben continued his faith in the church.

Ten years passed quickly.

Suddenly, Alexander returned once again. But fear gripped Father Ben's heart.

He dreaded that he wouldn't be able to accept Alexander after his return to society.

Throughout his life, Father Ben was consumed by this one obsession that he couldn't shake off.

He knew where his troubles lay, but it was all in vain.

Mason came back with his head hung low.

Normally, Mason was afraid of Liam and Father Ben the most.

Today, he just greeted them.

Liam grabbed his collar and pulled him back, asking, "What's wrong with you?"

Mason looked at Liam, his eyes filled with grievances he could no longer contain. He looked up and burst into tears.

"What's the matter?" Father Ben quickly bent down to check on him.

"I miss my mom!" Mason continued to cry.

Liam was taken aback.

Mason had been sent to the church as a baby and had never seen his own mother.

Why would Mason suddenly miss his mom today?

"Did that Stella say something to you?" Liam had no good feelings toward Stella. "She's gone too far. She caused Alexander to return to society, and now she's bullying Mason!"

"No!" Mason swiftly defended Stella upon hearing Liam's words.

"Why would you miss your mom then? You've never even met her!" Liam blurted out.

Upon hearing this, Mason's heart ached even more.

Father Ben gave Liam a stern look, then took Mason's hand and gently comforted him. "Don't cry. Mason, would you like to talk to Father Ben about what's bothering you?"

Mason nodded, his voice choked with emotion.

Then, Mason cried all the way back to Father Ben's residence, with Liam following behind, not daring to say a word.

Soon enough, Father Ben managed to stop Mason's tears with two watermelon slices just retrieved from the well.

"Father Ben." After eating a few bites, Mason sniffled, "Stella isn't bad."

Father Ben was a bit taken aback.

"Whenever you all mentioned Alexander before, everyone said Stella was a bad woman," Mason sniffled again, "but she's not... She's actually very kind!"

Father Ben patted Mason's head and said, "Because you see her as a mother figure, you miss your mom, right?"

Mason pouted, and tears welled up in his eyes once more.

The Church of the Sacred Breeze was filled with men.

Raising a baby like Mason wasn't easy for them.

Neglect was inevitable.

For example, Mason longed for maternal love.

Liam, standing nearby, understood why Mason was suddenly so upset.

"Alright, stop crying. Next time Stella comes, I'll be even more polite to her, okay?" Liam awkwardly tried to comfort him.
