Chapter 653 The Truth Of What Happened to Thomas

"Alright, time for bed," Fiona said, ending the call.

Despite hanging up, Fiona couldn't shake off her unease. Instead of heading to her room, she returned to Chicago's room and lay down beside him. Chicago stirred awake.

"Mommy..."

"It's alright, sweetheart. Mommy's here to sleep with you tonight." Chicago nodded and snuggled closer to his mother, soon drifting back into a deep slumber.

In her sleep, Fiona muttered, "Ethan, I've already tackled this problem eight times. I'm done. Really, I am." Fiona stifled a laugh. Meanwhile, Darwin's car had been cruising down the highway for over two hours.

Upon reaching the prison where Thomas was incarcerated, Darwin found Thomas waiting for him. Pushing open the heavy doors, Darwin entered, met with Thomas's mocking gaze.

"Well, well, if it isn't my brother-in-law," Thomas sneered as Darwin took a seat opposite him.

"What's the matter? Can't sleep without thinking of my sister, so you come here seeking revenge instead of being with your wife?" Thomas's words were intended to provoke Darwin.

Xavier stepped forward and delivered a kick to Thomas's waist, eliciting a pained grunt. But Thomas continued to laugh, until Darwin slid an A4 paper across the table. Thomas's laughter ceased as panic replaced his amusement.

"Don't frame innocent people, Darwin! Even if I die and become a ghost, I won't let you off!" Thomas protested.

"Many have threatened me before, but they're all dead now, and not a single ghost has bothered me," Darwin retorted.

The contents of the A4 paper were simple. Before surrendering himself, Thomas had uploaded a condensed version of Lilian's murder as a paid video. The paper listed the earnings from the video, which had exceeded one million dollars in the first month alone.

"What's your game, Darwin? Seeking revenge for Lilian? Have you forgotten how she treated you?" Thomas's eyes flashed with anger.

With Lilian's death, her parents, relying on her for their retirement, faced financial uncertainty. So Thomas resorted to producing paid videos, catering to the dark web's demand for such content.

However, Thomas never anticipated Darwin getting hold of the encryption key for the website.

"Thomas, how did you manage to survive?" Darwin inquired, ignoring Thomas's protests.
"It was just luck," Thomas replied, tension evident in his body.

"Luck?" Darwin's gaze pierced him like a hawk's. "Your sister found the best assassin organization in the world for you. Luck alone wouldn't have kept you alive."

Thomas frowned. "What do you mean?"

"No one came to rescue you?" Darwin inquired.

Thomas chuckled quietly. "If someone had, would I be in this mess? Would my girlfriend still be alive?"

Thomas raised his maimed hand, his voice rising with excitement.

Xavier moved to kick him again, but Darwin gestured to halt.

Thomas appeared genuinely shaken.

"That lunatic, he toyed with us like a cat with a mouse, savoring the torture," Thomas recounted, still visibly horrified. "He made us watch as he cut into each other with a knife! My girlfriend's screams still haunt me!!! If I hadn't faked my death and seized an opportunity to flee, would I even be here?"

Darwin grew more suspicious as he listened.

He hadn't cared about Thomas's survival story until now.

But now, he did.

"How did you orchestrate your sister's death?" Darwin pressed further.

Thomas might have been foolish, but his plan to kill Lilian was painstakingly meticulous.

Purchasing equipment, acquiring drugs, using virtual IP broadcasting, and ensuring Lilian remained conscious throughout.

"Why all these questions?" Thomas eyed Darwin suspiciously.

"If you want to protect these two," Darwin tapped the A4 paper in front of Thomas, "then come clean, no more secrets."

Thomas's expression turned dark.

After a brief pause, he reluctantly confessed, "After my escape, someone helped me. They taught me methods and how to upload videos for profit, after hearing my story."

"Where is this person now?"

"I don't know. When I was almost healed, he said enemies were after him, and he vanished the next day. Don't ask who he is or his name; I didn't inquire," Thomas explained.

"I'll contact the sketch artist later. You can describe him then," Darwin stated coldly.

"Do you expect me to betray the person who saved me?" Thomas frowned.

Darwin sneered, "Are you sure he is your savior?"

"What do you mean?" Panic flashed across Thomas's face.

Darwin glanced at a recent message on his phone.

"I just spoke to the head of The Venomous Shadows. He said the person sent to kill you vanished that day. Their organization prides itself on efficiency; they don't play games," Darwin remarked casually.

Thomas's eyes widened in horror.

"Are you suggesting my sister didn't arrange the hit on me? That the killer is dead and the one who kidnapped us is in cahoots with my savior?" he queried.

"What else could it be? Thomas, do you honestly think you could escape and be saved purely by luck?" Darwin retorted. "After you vanished, not just the police, but my wife and I scoured everywhere. Your savior, as you mentioned, resides in the slums. If he could evade such a wide search, he's far from ordinary."

"Impossible!" Thomas exclaimed, shaking his head fervently.

"Xavier, wait here for the artist. We need descriptions of both the killer and the savior," Darwin instructed, unwilling to dwell further.

That settled it.

Lilian's demise, along with Alexander's and Sebastian's, all bore the mark of the same group.

And if things went as planned.

Their mercilessness stemmed from Hathaway.
