Chapter 658 Family Massacres
Darwin's sudden change in tactics caught him off guard. Once he obtained the killer's image, he swiftly circulated it worldwide through the media. This unexpected move surprised him, especially the response from Armie's internet users. Previously, Darwin had a notorious reputation, often viewed as an evil capitalist. However, this time, despite his attempt to influence public opinion, the Armie internet users remained unmoved.
Turning off his phone screen, the man brushed off the indifferent reaction. Regardless, Darwin remained focused on the original plan. Despite the deviation in strategy, he proceeded with the plan ahead of schedule. Gazing out at the dim lights of Armie through the window, Darwin momentarily set aside his plans to experience Armie's Christmas atmosphere until the following year.
Late at night, Darwin returned home with a stern expression. Fiona awaited him in the living room, eager for updates. "How did it go? Are there any other missing or deceased individuals?" she inquired anxiously.
"Lilian's friend disappeared from the psychiatric hospital, and body parts were found in the nearby lake this afternoon. Her family just arrived in Bay City for DNA testing," Darwin revealed solemnly. "I suspect it's her."
"We need to locate those two individuals as soon as possible," Fiona responded in a hushed tone. Considering the deaths of Thomas, Alexander, Sebastian, and Lilian's suspected friend, Fiona sensed that they were more than mere murderers. She believed they derived pleasure from killing and posed a severe danger to society.
"Yes," Darwin agreed, squeezing Fiona's hand. "Why are your hands so cold?"
"I've been holding onto my phone for too long," Fiona explained, returning his grip. "Janna called earlier. She had her contacts in the organization search for individuals matching their descriptions, but my gut tells me they're not from the organization."
With strict discipline in many organizations, particularly in the assassin industry, most wouldn't condone the methods employed by these two individuals. Their actions seemed to toy with people's lives. "At the moment, it seems these two don't belong to the Ross family. But many prominent families train assassins, making it challenging to investigate," Fiona asserted firmly.
"They didn't just materialize out of thin air. There must be some traces of them," Fiona declared with determination.
Finally, Darwin managed a faint smile. He wearily leaned against Fiona.
Fiona gently rested her hand on Darwin's shoulder. "You should go upstairs and rest. Don't forget, we have a meeting with the Ross family tomorrow."
At the mention of the meeting, Darwin's expression clouded slightly.
He knew all too well that the mastermind behind all this was none other than the Ross family.
Unfortunately, without solid evidence, Darwin still had to confront the Ross family.
It had been years since Darwin had faced such a frustrating situation.
"Exactly. I'm also curious to test Miss Annie," Fiona remarked calmly.
Henry had stated that Hathaway and the entire Ross family had turned into adversaries after Darwin's incident.
No one had any connections with her.
But to Fiona, this implied the possibility of an unnoticed presence that outsiders overlooked.
Thus, everyone was under suspicion.
And that included Miss Annie.
The meeting was arranged for the day Annie was discharged from the hospital.
Around ten o'clock, Annie, looking a bit pale, arrived at the Solomon building with her team.
"Miss Annie, you still don't look well. If I had known earlier, I would have postponed it for a few days," Fiona expressed with genuine concern upon seeing Annie.
Annie wore a worried expression. "I wanted to meet with you and Mr. Solomon. That's why I came. If there's any issue, there's no need for my assistant to report it to me again. We can resolve it on the spot."
Fiona glanced at the person beside Annie.
Previously, her assistant had been of Latin descent, but this time, it was a man with blond hair and blue eyes, who seemed more cunning than the former.
Annie likely noticed Fiona's scrutiny and smiled, saying, "Kevin's arm was seriously injured, so I thought it best to grant him an extended leave to spend Christmas with his parents."
"I visited him that day, and his injury was indeed severe. He needed rest," Fiona interjected. "Let's proceed with the meeting first, and then we can discuss other matters."
Throughout the lengthy meeting, Fiona noticed that Annie appeared much more anxious than last time.
The meeting dragged on for over four hours, during which they managed to address some fundamental issues.
"After this meeting, we won't reconvene until after Christmas. So, I'd like to extend my early wishes for a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year to everyone," Fiona addressed the staff from all three parties with gentle sincerity.
Warm blessings were exchanged among the attendees.
Even a few staff members who had traveled from distant locations offered their Christmas wishes.
Annie exchanged a few words with her assistant, who then rose and exited the meeting room alongside the representatives from the Ross family.
Darwin turned his attention to Annie. "Miss Annie, is there anything else you'd like to discuss?"
Annie glanced at Darwin and Fiona. "Yesterday, your media voluntarily disclosed the murder case involving both families. Are they connected to your people as the online rumors suggest?"
"Yes, they're linked to my people," Darwin replied curtly.
Darwin said little, merely waiting to hear what Annie had to say.
"I want to show you something," Annie declared, retrieving an iPad from her briefcase and opening the photo album, then sliding it across the table to Fiona.
"Whose family portrait is this?" Fiona inquired, eyeing the image.
Annie nodded solemnly. "Mr. Solomon, you should take a look. There are also people you know in here."
Darwin's expression turned icy as he accepted the iPad.
"Your father's attorney?" Darwin pointed to the tall Latinx man in the center of the photo.
"Yes. When the engagement was being arranged, it was him and your team of lawyers who were coordinating." Annie disclosed after a brief pause.
"Miss Annie, why are you showing us this?" Fiona ventured a guess.
Annie's complexion paled. "A year ago, their entire family suffered the same fate as the victims of the 27 murders. They were locked inside a refrigerated truck and froze to death."
Fiona furrowed her brows slightly and glanced at Darwin, who was already looking at her.
"Not just this family," Annie urged Fiona to continue.
Another family portrait was presented.
"This family died in a plane crash, the entire family was lost."
Advancing to the next photo, there was another family portrait.
"This family perished in a fire, another tragic loss."
Fiona's expression grew solemn.
Moving to the next image, another picture emerged.
"This family was electrocuted to death in a swimming pool."
