Chapter 461 Am I Losing My Charm?
Fiona pushed open the children's room door.
The little guy, Chicago, wasn't in his own bed, so Fiona glanced toward Charles's bed.
Darwin, Charles, and Chicago were all snuggled up together over there, even leaving a spot for Fiona next to Chicago.
To be honest, Fiona had been truly exhausted lately.
Aside from the full plate at Rhoads family, things at Monsoon Investment were bustling.
Plus, with Charles's illness, she hadn't had a moment's respite.
While searching for a bone marrow match, she also consulted with leading experts for alternative treatment options.
But no matter how tired she felt, in this moment, it all seemed to fade away.
She tiptoed over, kissed both Charles and Chicago, cast a glance at Darwin, and then lay down next to Chicago.
Tonight, Fiona fell asleep quickly, sinking into a deep slumber soon after.
At the other end of the bed, Darwin, hearing Fiona's steady breaths, slowly opened his eyes.
His gaze passed over the two little ones nestled in the middle and settled on Fiona.
Did she really, truly not like him anymore?
Even in his sleep, she had kissed Charles and Chicago but completely overlooked him.
Unbeknownst to himself, Darwin had been increasingly troubled by insecurity.
He lay there for a while, growing more irritated by the thought.
Finally, he got up, gently shifted Charles and Chicago aside, and carefully snuggled next to Fiona, taking her into his arms before settling down and drifting off, content and fulfilled.
Downstairs, Kenny parked the car.
Just as he was making his way to the front door, Thalassa bounced out, brimming with energy.
"Take it easy!" Kenny instinctively raised his hand, fearing in the dim light of the evening that Thalassa might not see the path clearly and trip.
Thalassa quickly reached Kenny's side.
"Didn't I explain everything to you? Why did you rush back?" Thalassa asked, beaming with no hint of blame.
"I was already on my way back," Kenny said. To be precise, after Darwin had messaged him, he had immediately doubled back. "My bad, I should've told you about the Aurora incident."
Kenny felt it was unnecessary.
Why dirty his wife's ears with such nonsense?
"Why blame yourself? You're not a fortune-teller; how could you have predicted what happened with us and Chicago?" Thalassa spoke as she interlocked her fingers with Kenny's. "Did you speed all the way back? That's way too risky! Go take a shower and hit the hay, pronto!"
"You mention it, and I do feel a bit of soreness in my shoulders," Kenny feigned a grimace.
His daily workouts had him in top shape.
A few hours behind the wheel were a trifle to him.
"I'll give you a good massage when we get back." Thalassa tightened her grip on Kenny's hand and gave it a playful swing. "You've been sitting for hours. Let's walk?" she suggested.
Kenny couldn't help but smile at Thalassa's adorable expression.
Without resisting the urge, he dipped his head and pressed his lips softly against hers.
Guilty as if caught in the act, Thalassa instinctively glanced over her shoulder.
Seeing no one around, she stood on her tiptoes and returned the kiss.
Afterward, hand in hand, they made their way home.
During the summer night, the day's restlessness subsided, and a cool breeze caressed their skin, offering soothing relief.
As they walked, Thalassa recounted the day's events in detail to Kenny.
"Chicago's curiosity was just insatiable. She'd never been in a police car before, and she squirmed with excitement. But when Aurora joined us, it was a whole different scene. The poor kid was so shocked, she clammed up tight."
Kenny was a man of few words.
People at the university and anyone who knew him were aware—Kenny favored brevity and wasn't fond of chatter.
But, when faced with Thalassa's prattle, Kenny had to admit that even though he disliked talkative people, he enjoyed it when the one he loved was chatty.
Listening to her vivid storytelling, he found pure joy and happiness.
Looking down at the empty ring finger of his left hand, Kenny wondered how much longer he would have to wait to wear his wedding band.
Hm...
It was a miscalculation.
Had he known, he'd have skipped these games.
He should have prepared a set of rings so he could wear one sooner.
Back at the university, when his professors found out he was married, their immediate question was why he wasn't wearing a ring.
Arriving home, Kenny showered first.
When he came out, Thalassa, who had been so adamant about giving him a shoulder rub, was slumped over the couch.
She'd fallen into a deep sleep.
Kenny chuckled helplessly.
He gently picked her up and carried her to her room, laying her down with care.
Then, for a moment, Kenny just watched her, placing kisses on her brow, the tip of her nose, and her lips.
After the last peck, Kenny was about to head to his own room.
But...
Before he could leave the bed, Thalassa's hand caught his.
Kenny paused, taken aback.
Glancing over at Thalassa, Kenny noticed she was still asleep, mumbling incoherently while clutching at his hand with a vice-like grip. After a moment of consideration, he decided to just lie down beside her. Stiff as a statue, her scent filled his nostrils, and he lay there staring at the ceiling, his heart pounding like distant thunder.
The next morning broke early for Kenny. He had rushed back home the day before, leaving some unfinished business, so he was up and out before dawn. It had been almost a month since he last visited Solomon for a meeting.
Thalassa shuffled around Fiona's living room in her slippers. "You have no idea how confused I was this morning," she confessed to Fiona, nibbling at her lip, "Waking up to find Kenny asleep in my bed? It's like my memory is just wiped clean; I can't recall a thing from last night. For a moment, I thought it was all over—that I had my first time with Kenny and didn't remember any of it."
Fiona remained silent, dwelling on her own perplexities. She had slept wonderfully the night before, only to awake to a scene similar to Thalassa's. She had found herself in Darwin's arms while Charles and Chicago somehow ended up asleep in Chicago's bed. In a knee-jerk reaction, she had kicked Darwin right off the bed, startling both Charles and Chicago. The two kids looked bewilderingly at their dad, who was just as baffled on the floor.
As Thalassa rambled on, she revealed, "But then he tells me that nothing happened last night, that I wouldn't let go of his hand, and he was just too exhausted, so he crashed on my bed."
Fiona cracked a smile. "Sounds like you're a bit disappointed there, huh?"
Thalassa blushed and plopped down beside Fiona. "Do you think Kenny has been sober before, or is it just that I have no charm?"
"Don't gaslight yourself," Fiona chided with a tap on Thalassa's head. "If you have doubts, go ask Kenny directly instead of brooding over them by yourself!" "
