Chapter 1296
Nobody wanted to see the Durham Group go under. If it did, they'd all be out of a job.
They backed Lucian because they believed he could bring the Durham Group back to its glory days and keep their jobs safe.
But now, it looked like Lucian didn't have what it takes.
And no matter how tight things got, there were always cracks.
Lately, rumors were flying that Lucian was looking to sell the Durham Group.
With Lucian's poorly managed projects, his lack of action over the past few months, and these rumors, everyone knew things were shifting.
"Ms. Woods, isn't it Mr. Durham who's been slacking off?" Samuel pressed on.
"What do you mean?" Fiona asked, curious.
"Even if Mr. Montgomery lost some money, he's been busting his butt for the company. Maybe he made some bad calls. The Durham Group has plenty of talent, and Mr. Montgomery is humble enough to listen to others. But what does Mr. Durham do besides blow money and lean on his brother?" Samuel said.
"Is that so?" Fiona looked at Wyatt, puzzled. "Don't people know that your deals with the Rhoads Group, the Solomon Group, and the previous work with the Solomon Group were all you?"
Before Wyatt could respond, Samuel cut in, "That's what I mean by leaning on his brother!"
Fiona shot Samuel a glare, her smile vanishing.
Samuel's face went stiff.
"What an idiot!" Fiona snapped. "Do you think the Rhoads Group is just some random company? And the Solomon Group? If there's no profit, not even Wyatt, but even Darwin's parents' projects, we wouldn't touch them. You're too dumb, thinking everyone is like you?"
No one expected Fiona to blow up over this.
"Wyatt, this is what you get for staying quiet. Look at the projects you busted your ass on, making these ungrateful people a ton of money. They don't see you as their savior; they suck up to the guy who lost them money," Fiona went on.
Her words were blunt and cutting.
"Ms. Woods, isn't that a bit much?" Lucian finally spoke up.
"Too much? Then Mr. Montgomery, you better get your people in line. Attacking Wyatt is one thing, but keep your mouths shut about the Solomon Group and the Rhoads Group. We don't stoop that low." Fiona's presence was overpowering. "If you really think the Solomon Group and the Rhoads Group are low-level, we can just stop working with your Durham Group next time."
"Ms. Woods, that's too serious!" A neutral shareholder quickly jumped in. "Whether it's the Rhoads Group or the Solomon Group, they're top-tier. How could they be considered low-level? I've had the honor of working with the Solomon Group, and their standards are top-notch. The Rhoads Group has been leading the industry for years. Please don't let the foolish words of ignorant people ruin our relationship!"
"Yes, Ms. Woods, please calm down!"
Lucian and Fiona exchanged a look.
Fiona seemed angry, but her eyes were calm.
Lucian suddenly realized he'd been played.
