Chapter 1021

"Chicago is already a strong girl. Even if she falls, she can get up on her own," Charles said earnestly. "Spoiling her like this will only make her weak, and that's not good."

Charles had been like this before.

Whenever there was a minor issue in Chicago, he would get extremely anxious.

But after Chicago started school, she would cry and look for Charles or Fiona at the slightest problem.

Now, she had quickly become a leader in her team. Even with a broken arm, she wouldn't cry once the pain subsided.

She said she wanted to be the top of her class and studied hard until she achieved it.

Chicago, as Charles had mentioned, had grown into a resilient and strong girl.

This was very good.

Charles hoped Chicago would always remain this resilient and strong.

Darwin was suddenly taken aback by Charles's serious reprimand.

He looked somewhat bewildered.

Instinctively, he glanced at Fiona.

Fiona shrugged. "It is between you two. I have no right to interfere."

Darwin then looked back at Charles.

"I understand," he said, squeezing Charles's small arm. "I will try to restrain myself in the future!"

"Good." Satisfied with the answer, the very hungry Charles slowly walked towards the dining room.

Fiona handed Darwin his cane.

Darwin stood up, somewhat helpless. "Charles must be very disappointed in me."

"How could he be?" Fiona linked her arm with his. "Charles is just sharing his experience of raising Chicago with you. I was very busy with work before, and after Chicago was born, she was always with Charles and became very dependent on him. Charles spoiled her without any limits."

Darwin listened quietly.

Fiona added, "You've seen it too. Charles has always been gentle and uncompetitive. The few times he argued with me were all for Chicago's sake. Even I couldn't scold her. Later, when we returned to Armie and your side, they each started school. Charles saw Chicago's independent side after she left him. At first, he wasn't used to it, but our son has one good trait, he rarely sticks to his own opinions. He saw the change in Chicago."

Fiona looked at Darwin. "He realized that spoiling her was not the way. Chicago needed to grow on her own, not live under his protection."

"I understand." Darwin nodded.

Fiona suddenly felt a pang of sadness. "Talking about this makes me feel bittersweet. My babies are growing up so fast."

"That's wonderful." Darwin gently wrapped his arm around Fiona's waist.

"Yes, as they grow up, we can enjoy our time together more!" Fiona smiled at Darwin.

Darwin looked back at her.

Just when everything seemed perfect, the sound of dripping water echoed in his ears again, bringing a damp feeling.

Darwin instinctively gripped his cane a bit tighter.

The strange feeling disappeared in the next moment.

After dinner, the four of them had planned to go for a walk together.

Suddenly, a call came from Monsoon Investment.

Fiona had to attend an impromptu meeting.

Originally, it was supposed to be Burl and Darwin taking Charles and Chicago for a walk.

When Darwin heard Fiona wasn't going, he immediately decided not to go either.

Burl was secretly pleased because this meant Darwin couldn't join in the fun with the kids.

Walking Jessie on a leash, Burl took Charles and Chicago out for a walk.

Darwin didn't disturb Fiona's work.

He sat down on a lounge chair in the corridor and began reading the latest financial news.

Coincidentally, today's financial news was about the Durham family.

The Durhams had held an emergency shareholders' meeting yesterday and removed Ryan from his position as chairman.

However, the Durham family's shares in the Durhams remained unchanged.

Although the Durhams hadn't officially announced this news yet, it was already on the financial news, so it was almost public knowledge.
