Chapter 146 Substitute of the Substitute

In a daze, Lilian heard Darwin cry out in pain.

"Where does it hurt? Darwin, tell me where it hurts," Lilian gently asked.

At that moment, Darwin's gaze suddenly fell upon her, and his previously hazy eyes brightened. He grabbed hold of Lilian.

Honestly, Lilian was happy in that instant but the happiness was short-lived. Because in the next second, before Darwin lost consciousness, he called her, "Fiona, you've come back? I missed you, missed you..."

Lilian looked at the unconscious Darwin, and it finally dawned on her. So Darwin mistook her for Fiona. Has she become the substitute for her own substitute?

Darwin's serious illness lasted until the following spring, gradually showing signs of improvement.
In the meantime, Anniston his mom escaped from the mental institution and, by taking advantage of Darwin's illness, tried to regain control of the Solomons with the help of the Soloman family's collateral branches.

The commotion was intense. There were even rumors that Darwin was critically ill and had passed away. But in the end, Darwin emerged victorious, and Anniston was suspected of embezzlement and sent directly to prison from the mental institution. During this time, it was said that a Miss Bai, Darwin's new vice president, played a significant role.

Across the ocean, on a quiet private island, Ashton sat in a magnificent Baroque chair, chin resting on her hand, watching Fiona sitting across from her, reading a book.

"Do you think Darwin will marry Lilian?" Ashton asked.

It had only been two months since Ashton saw Fiona again, if not for her mental breakdown, Janna probably wouldn't have revealed the fact that Fiona was still alive.

"Maybe," Fiona replied with a faint expression.

During this period, she had been well taken care of by Janna. Her skin was fair, tender, and rosy, and the babies had developed healthily. On the island, there was an entire medical team carefully chosen by Janna. They were all her trusted people whom she had cultivated for many years.

"Hmph!" Ashton crossed her arms, infuriated to the point of rolling her eyes. "When you were in trouble, he was desperate for your life. I thought he had a bit of sincerity. Now, within a few months, he's already cozying up to Lilian."

Ashton grew more and more annoyed and added Darwin's name to her internet blacklist.
She didn't want to see any news related to him anymore.

Fiona found her reaction cute and amusing. Five months ago, she indeed boarded that crashed plane. However, right before the airplane door was about to close, she suddenly felt very uncomfortable because she was worried about the babies. So Fiona decisively chose to get off the plane.

On that day, the people arranged by Janna were with her the whole time. She got off, and they followed suit. Unfortunately, when Fiona got off the plane, she was in a hurry and didn't realize her phone had fallen under the seat. Later, the plane crashed. Upon learning of this, Janna immediately found someone to erase all records of Fiona getting off the plane, and the surveillance footage was quickly handled. Janna had already prepared Fiona's new identity as a member of the Rhoads family. On that day, before the Civil Aviation Administration could react, Janna arranged for Fiona to go to the nearby private island of the Rhoads family under her new identity. During the chaos, Fiona was taken away from Armie Country and settled on this private island.

Thanks to Janna Rhoads, every trace of her disappearance was meticulously erased. Everyone believed that Fiona had died in the plane crash. Over the past few months, Fiona had been peacefully nurturing her unborn children on the island and had also resumed her studies. During this time, she was well aware of Darwin's situation through the media or Janna’s accounts.

At first, Fiona had worried, but when she found out that Lilian had been taking care of him all along, her worries disappeared. "Is this not good?" Fiona casually asked Ashton.

Ashton pondered for a moment and replied, "It’s just not fair to you!"

"But look at how well I'm living now. What's not fair?" Fiona took a sip of her juice and said, "Babe, you should eat less. When you first arrived two months ago, you were as skinny as a monkey, but now you've filled out!"

"Why did I become as skinny as a monkey? It's all because of you!" Ashton felt wronged when she thought of this.

Fiona rubbed her head and said, "I didn't expect Lady Janna to be so meticulous and managed to keep you all in the dark."

"It's good that she kept it a secret!" Ashton choked up. "After I regained my senses, I recalled the time when news of your death came. Darwin was acting like a madman, always watching me and Dagmar. If we had known that you were still alive at that time, we wouldn't have been able to put on such a convincing act of grief. Darwin would have been one hundred percent suspicious!"

Janna said the same thing. During that period, she had appeared very sorrowful to the outside world. She even made several charitable donations in Fiona's name. In short, the scenes of mourning were performed convincingly.
"But this Lady really has nothing to say about you!" Ashton changed the subject. "This island is so big, and the security is as tight as anything. Every day, there are supplements, doctors, nurses, and a bunch of servants. It's as if they're treating you like the moon in the sky. If people didn't know, they would think she is your own grandmother."

Fiona smiled lightly without responding to this comment. Janna did treat her very well, but she had never mentioned the fact that Fiona was her own granddaughter. "Last time, you said your stepfather wanted you to work at his company. What do you think about that?" Fiona changed the subject calmly.

At the mention of this matter, Ashton felt a bit of a headache. "Forget it, I'm afraid of his eldest son..." Ashton muttered. Her stepfather had three sons. The two younger sons were one year older and one year younger than Ashton. One of them engaged in the overseas art market, while the other was a lawyer, and they rarely intersected. The eldest son currently held the position of CEO at the company. Fiona hadn't met him, but Ashton had mentioned that he was good-looking, yet very strict.

"To be honest, I was quite happy with my previous job in China." Ashton expressed some regret. "I don't want to think about work for now. After you give birth, I might choose to start my own business."

Fiona was about to agree when suddenly her stomach started hurting. "My stomach hurts!! Wasn't the due date still a week away? Oh my goodness! Help! Someone!"

Ashton stood up, panicking, "It's normal for twins to be born prematurely. Stay calm..."

Fiona controlled her breathing. After a moment, the medical staff arrived and immediately took Fiona to the well-prepared delivery room.

Meanwhile, Janna had just left the island and flown back to the company to handle some matters. She received a call and hurriedly rushed back. Unfortunately, she encountered air traffic control issues.

By the time she returned to the island, the two little infants were already fast asleep in the incubator. Janna opened it up and leaned against the glass window, watching Stuart and his sister, who was wrinkled and fast asleep. Their eyes sparkled brightly.

"Hello there, little ones. I'm your great-grandmother. It's a pleasure to meet you," Janna spoke with a gentle and affectionate tone, filled with love.
