Chapter 1154
"He's got a messy family situation. If he needs help, he'll hit me up. I'm worried calling him might stir the pot," Darwin said quietly. "Let's chill until the afternoon. If he hasn't reached out by then, I'll give him a ring."
"Alright," Fiona nodded.
Darwin took his sweet time with breakfast.
Compared to yesterday's chaos, he looked way better today.
It was like he was a whole new person from yesterday.
For a sec, Fiona wondered if yesterday was just a bad dream.
After breakfast, they headed out.
The park was in a tucked-away spot.
After parking, Darwin, leaning on his cane and holding Fiona's hand, followed the path Rex had shown him to find the small gate.
They found it, but the path was blocked by wooden boards and a big red warning sign: NO ENTRY!
Darwin looked at Fiona. "We can't go in."
Fiona peered through the gaps and saw enough space to squeeze through, but there were thorny vines.
It matched Darwin's description.
"This path is for kids. Why'd you follow him in?" Fiona asked, annoyed.
"By the time I realized, I was already inside," Darwin replied with a grin.
Fiona shook her head.
The weather was nice, not too hot or cold.
Fiona looked around and noticed surveillance cameras nearby. She quickly looked away, just casually observing.
"Since we're out, I saw a nearby restaurant with great reviews online. How about lunch there?" Fiona suggested.
"Sure," Darwin agreed.
He glanced again at the blocked entrance.
Maybe when he and Rex went in last time, they messed up the plants and got caught, so now it's sealed off?
If so, how would he sneak into the park to nap in the future?
Fiona and Darwin walked to the nearby restaurant, passing a group of whispering people gathered at the park's security booth.
Fiona vaguely heard, "He looked so refined, who would've thought he'd turn out like this."
Someone advised the security guard to be more vigilant at night and carry a stun gun.
Most locals lived nearby.
The old-fashioned restaurant had a simple style.
The diners were locals too.
Fiona and Darwin found a corner seat and ordered based on recommendations.
"Have you heard about what happened at the park?"
"Those ladies have been gossiping about it for a while now!"
"Did someone really die? I heard the whole bathroom was covered in blood!"
A few patrons were chatting while eating.
Fiona listened and realized it sounded like a murder had gone down.
She exchanged a glance with Darwin.
No wonder the entrance was sealed off.
"I don't know, some say it was a young guy who went nuts from work stress and hurt himself there."
"These young folks nowadays, with sky-high housing prices, low wages, and many family members to take care of, how could they not be stressed? It's so sad!"
