Chapter 1187
"Way better," Fiona said, glancing at Darwin. "Darwin, you mentioned you first met Rex in North Alabama, right? Where exactly?"
"Near the hospital where Thalassa gave birth. He almost got hit by a cyclist, and I saved him. Got a bit banged up but didn't tell you cause I didn't want you to worry," Darwin replied.
Fiona was with him every day; she would've noticed if he got hurt.
"Was it when I went back to see Wyatt for a few days?" Fiona asked.
"Yeah," Darwin nodded. "Why are you bringing this up now?"
"I just want to know more so we have more to chat about when we meet," Fiona said.
She wasn't a psychologist and didn't know if suddenly exposing someone's hallucinations would be harmful. So, she pretended not to notice anything. She needed to figure out when Rex appeared. For treatment, she had to be super careful. This wasn't run-of-the-mill psychological issue.
Hubert hadn't known them long; she might need a more reliable and discreet team for Darwin's treatment. Fiona's mind was a mess. She tried to calm down, find clues quickly, and sort out her thoughts.
After waiting a while longer, Rex still hadn't shown up. Darwin called again, but there was no answer. Finally, he decided not to wait any longer and called the waiter to order food.
"Don't wait for him. You're not feeling well; let's eat first," Darwin said to Fiona. But she could see he was worried and anxious.
"Maybe something came up," Fiona gently comforted him. Darwin nodded slightly and glanced at his phone again. Even by the end of lunch, Rex hadn't shown up.
As they were about to leave, Darwin went to the restroom. Rex finally called. Darwin answered immediately, "What's going on? My wife has been waiting for you for over two hours. Didn't you say you were almost here?"
"Uncle Darwin, I'm sorry. Something came up," the voice on the other line sounded tearful. "Please apologize to your wife for me."
"What happened?" Darwin asked quickly.
Rex was silent for a moment. "It's nothing. I'll be staying in Bay City from now on. Let's reschedule lunch, and I'll apologize to her in person!"
"Rex, were you beaten again?" Darwin asked sternly.
"No, really!" Rex quickly replied.
"Where are you? My wife and I will come to you now!" Darwin's tone was firm.
"There's no need. Let's leave it at that for now. I'll contact you later!" Rex hung up.
In his anxiety, Darwin's hand brushed against the sink and got cut by a broken piece of porcelain. Blood started to ooze out. Darwin quickly turned on the water to rinse the wound but accidentally dropped his phone, shattering the screen.
Fiona, worried, followed him to the restroom. Hearing the commotion, she ran in without caring that it was the men's restroom. "What happened?"
