Chapter 800 The Choice
But now...
This night, Fiona had a bad dream.
She dreamt that Darwin was stuck in a spider web, his limbs entangled in white silk. The threads around his neck were particularly strong, even drawing fresh blood.
The pale silk stained red.
Darwin looked pale and fragile, his eyes red, lips moving as if speaking, but Fiona couldn't hear anything, not a single word.
Fiona just kept calling Darwin's name in the dream.
Fiona wanted to get closer to him, to rescue him from the spider web, but a large black spider blocked her way; no matter how hard she tried, the spider pushed her away.
She woke up suddenly.
It was already bright outside.
She subconsciously looked the person beside her.
Darwin was peacefully asleep. She breathed a sigh of relief and reached out to hold his waist, clinging tightly to him.
Darwin slept lightly and woke up quickly.
"What's wrong?" He subconsciously reached out, embraced Fiona from behind, and held her close.
"Nothing..." Fiona shook her head. "It's just my internal clock; I woke up."
Darwin glanced at the time.
It was only four-thirty.
"I'll hold you and sleep a little longer." Darwin's tone was gentle as he completely enveloped Fiona in his arms, gently patting her back.
Fiona's heart fluttered, slowly calming down.
As long as he was by her side, no matter if it was the large spider in her dream or anything else, no one could take him away from her.
Fiona dozed off again for a while.
Fiona woke up at six o'clock and got out of bed.
While she was getting ready, Darwin stayed with her.
After she finished getting ready, she turned around, leaned against the sink, and reached out to touch Darwin's cheek. "I'll take Charles and Chicago to school later, then head to the office. Wyatt will probably come around nine; remember what you promised me yesterday?"
Darwin nodded. "Yes."
"Good." Fiona said as she kissed Darwin on the cheek.
Then she went downstairs.
She dropped Charles off at school first, leaving only Chicago in the car.
She seemed a bit distracted.
"Chicago, what's wrong?" Fiona patted her head. "Are you still worried about Eleanor?"
"Yes." Chicago nodded.
"Don't worry; Mommy is here to accompany you to school, just to help you with this matter," Fiona reassured Chicago with a strong sense of security.
Chicago's eyes immediately lit up.
Then her expression dimmed again as if she remembered something.
"What if that lady is still the same as yesterday..."
"Adult matters are for adults to worry about; kids don't need to worry!" Fiona said with a smile.
"Yes!" Chicago hugged Fiona's arm. "I trust Mommy the most!"
"You're flattering me again!" Fiona playfully tapped Chicago's nose.
Fiona dropped Chicago off at the school gate and then saw Charlotte.
"Are you here because of what happened with Chicago yesterday?"
"Sort of." Fiona patted Charlotte's head. "Stay out of this, Charlotte."
Charlotte nodded, glanced at the time, exchanged a few words with Fiona, and walked towards the school gate.
After classes started on this side, Fiona went straight to the principal's office.
"Fiona, we've caused trouble again!" The principal saw Fiona looking apologetic.
Without much ado, Fiona's gaze fell on a timid girl behind the principal.
The girl already looked timid, and meeting Fiona's eyes made her even more afraid.
Fiona smiled gently. "You must be Eleanor, right? I've heard Chicago mention you. She said you're the most diligent student in the class, and I didn't expect you to be so beautiful!"
Eleanor was slightly stunned.
She subconsciously touched her cheek.
Eleanor thought, 'Am I beautiful?'
Her grandmother and aunt always scolded her as a little bane.
Her mother also said she wasn't pretty.
She was discouraged from focusing on her appearance because no matter how she dressed, Eleanor was never considered attractive.
It was better to focus on her studies.
That way, she could be recognized for her outstanding academic performance in the future!
"Thank you, you... you're also very beautiful." Eleanor spoke softly, her face turning red in just a few words.
"Principal, may I have a private conversation with Eleanor?" Fiona looked at the principal.
The principal hesitated.
He might not worry about other children, but Eleanor was too introverted. It took a long time to convince her to go home with him yesterday.
Once they got home, Eleanor hid in her room.
"Eleanor, this is Chicago's mom..."
"I'm fine with it." Eleanor nodded gently.
The principal immediately breathed a sigh of relief. "You two talk slowly; I'll go check around!"
As he spoke, he whispered to Fiona. "This child is very timid, please... please be patient with her."
"I understand."
After a moment, the principal gently closed the door.
Fiona sat down on the sofa and then beckoned Eleanor gently.
Eleanor timidly walked over. "I'm sorry. My mom was wrong yesterday. I apologize to you and Chicago on her behalf."
"Chicago doesn't blame you; she's actually very worried about you," Fiona said softly.
Eleanor's small hand immediately clenched into a fist.
"I can see you're a smart kid, so can I be direct with you?" Fiona leaned in a bit. "Eleanor, your mom is sick now, and your Dad... has another lady. Now, I want to ask you, what do you think?"
Eleanor's small body trembled violently.
"I don't know..."
"Not knowing is not an option right now." Fiona was straightforward. "Of course, you have a third option, which is not choosing anyone."
Eleanor's pupils trembled violently.
"But I'm just a kid." Eleanor clenched her fist tighter.
"So what?" Fiona countered.
Eleanor lowered her eyelids, her body trembling slightly.
Living with Dad... actually meant living with her Grandma and Aunt.
Thinking of Grandma and Aunt's harshness, she couldn't help but feel terrified.
Eleanor cried in her heart, 'Mom......'
When she thought of her mom now, all she could see in her mind was her hysterical behavior in the cafeteria.
"Is the lady Dad found going to have a little brother for Dad?" Eleanor asked softly.
Fiona nodded. "That's what I heard."
"Is Mom really sick?" She hesitated and asked again.
"She's in the hospital now. If you want to see her, I can take you there."
Fiona thought that Eleanor would probably ask to see her mom next.
However...
"I don't want to see her." Eleanor shook her head, then clenched her fist again, looking at Fiona with determination. "Auntie, I want to live by myself. Can you help me?" "
