Chapter 115 The Morning Ritual
Fiona looked at Darwin in utter surprise, and all her lingering doubts vanished. She caressed Darwin's cheek, and he immediately leaned into her palm like a big, affectionate dog.
"I have been planting trees for five years, and now it's time for me to enjoy the shade for a lifetime," Fiona replied.
"So, Fiona, do you also like me?" Darwin urgently asked.
Fiona gazed at Darwin and shook her head. The smile on Darwin's face visibly faded away. But then, Fiona said, "Darwin, I think... I love you."
Darwin froze. "If you love me, why did you leave me before?" Darwin asked.
"I love you, but I can't be a mistress," Fiona retorted with a huff. "And besides, someone had previously set a rule for me not to fall in love with you, right?"
"Someone is such a bastard!" Darwin cursed.
Fiona looked at Darwin, thinking, Darwin, I have poured out my heart to you. I hope you won't disappoint me.
"I'm so happy!" Darwin hugged Fiona tightly and kissed her cheek again.
Fiona couldn't help but laugh and cry at the same time.
"Mr. Solomon, it's almost two o'clock in the morning. Would you like to take a nap?" Fiona suggested.
"No rush. Let me check the calendar first and choose a good day to apply for our marriage license!" Darwin, who couldn't fall asleep anymore, took out his phone and started browsing the calendar.
As he flipped through the pages, Mr. Solomon grew increasingly unhappy.
"Is this calendar broken? Are there no available wedding dates for the next half month?"
"Marriage is a significant event; naturally, not every day is favorable," Fiona snatched away his phone. "Why are you in such a hurry?"
"I'm afraid you'll run away," Darwin said, holding her again. "Fiona, we agreed to get married, so it's settled. You can't run away anymore!"
"As long as you don't let me down, why would I run?" Fiona asked.
Darwin thought of Lilian, but he only felt guilt towards her now. He had only been accompanying her for treatment, which didn't count as letting her down—it was his responsibility.
"You're the one for me in this lifetime," Darwin said earnestly.
"A lifetime is a long time. Let time prove whether Mr. Solomon is telling the truth," Fiona finished speaking and yawned. "Mr. Solomon, I'm really sleepy..."
"Sleep! I won't disturb you," Darwin kissed her again.
He thought she would fall asleep then. Little did he know that before closing her eyes, Fiona took the initiative to peck his lips. Then, like a little rabbit, she burrowed into the covers.
Darwin noticed her blushing ears.
Even though they had done intimate things in the past, she still acted like this—shy to the point that her ears turned as red as if they were about to bleed.
Darwin kissed her softly and devoutly.
Darwin kissed Fiona's earlobe and said, "Goodnight, my wife."
Fiona felt loved by his words. It was as if she suddenly fell into a honey jar.
Every breath was filled with Darwin’s presence.
"My wife..."
This was the first time Darwin called her his wife.
The next day, Darwin woke up to find Fiona no longer by his side. He was always worried that his wife would run away. Before his mind could react, his body reacted first. He immediately got out of bed without even bothering to put on his shoes. Opening the bedroom door, he saw the suitcase in the living room, and Darwin's heart skipped a beat.
"Awake?"
Fiona entered from the balcony, still on the phone.
"Just hold on, Ashton. We'll talk later."
She hung up the phone. She walked up to Darwin and reached out to touch his forehead. "You're not running a fever..."
"Where are you planning to go with your suitcase?" Darwin asked.
Fiona paused for a moment, then looked at the suitcase in the living room, about to explain.
Darwin grabbed her shoulder. "Are you running away again? You said you loved me last night, do you regret it now?"
"Don't shake me, it's making me dizzy!"
Fiona swatted Darwin's hand away.
"Are you stupid? That's the luggage I brought back yesterday, I haven't even unpacked it yet!"
Darwin was stunned. His fury gradually dissipated.
"Oh..."
"Why are you acting so strange?" Fiona shook her head. "Breakfast as usual?"
"Sure..."
"Put on your shoes, Mr. Solomon." Fiona finished speaking, shaking her head, and walked towards the western kitchen.
Darwin didn't even notice he had no shoes on.
She turned her back, unable to contain her laughter.
Darwin's breakfast was very simple.
Two slices of toasted whole wheat bread, spread with unsalted peanut butter, and a cup of black coffee.
Today, Fiona added a fried egg to add protein to his food.
Darwin changed into a different outfit and returned to his usual elite boss appearance.
"Are you going out with Ashton?" Darwin asked.
"Yeah. We planned to go shopping." Fiona sat across from him, resting her chin on her hand and watched him eat.
Watching Darwin eat was also enjoyable, like shooting a commercial.
"I'll give you the black card later, buy whatever you like." Darwin paused for a moment and asked, "Do I look good?"
Fiona smiled and squinted, "You look great~"
Darwin decided to put down his coffee, leaned closer, pinched Fiona's chin, and kissed her lips before sitting back and continuing to eat.
"So childish!" Fiona muttered.
"Madam Fiona, you better get ready. From now on, we'll be childish like this every day," Darwin proudly declared.
Indeed, Fiona was his other half, his soul.
Yesterday, he was so annoyed but once he was back by her side, it was just one night. Even if he just stayed by her side, doing nothing but having breakfast prepared by her, it was enough to revive him completely.
After finishing breakfast, Darwin was supposed to go to the company. His assistant, Liu, had been waiting downstairs for a while.
"Wife, which tie goes with this outfit?" Darwin went to the wardrobe and glanced at the tie rack, completely clueless.
Fiona hurried over. Without even looking carefully, she accurately picked out the tie.
Darwin bent down, offering his neck. In the past, Fiona used to tiptoe and help him tie it. Suddenly she felt bitterness in her heart. So he did understand, it's just that he never paid attention to her before.
"We're not married yet, so don't call me wife casually." Fiona helped him tie the tie while saying, "What if you accidentally call me that outside?"
Darwin embraced her waist and pulled her into his arms.
"What can we do? My wife is someone I can proudly show off!"
Fiona's heart warmed up.
"Alright, let's go downstairs quickly. Liu is getting impatient!" Fiona spoke and pulled Darwin towards the door.
They got to the entrance. Darwin stood there, unmoving. Fiona understood what he meant. She tiptoed and kissed the corner of his mouth. "Take care on the way."
"Just the corner of my mouth?" Darwin held onto her waist, not allowing her to leave. He furrowed his eyebrows, looking dissatisfied.
Fiona clenched her teeth. Boldly, she cupped his cheek and kissed him on the lips repeatedly, four or five times.
