Chapter 162 The Constitution of Blood and Storms
It was like the moment Mr. Solomon first saw Secretary Woods and couldn't take his eyes off her, keeping her by his side as a substitute for Miss Robbins.
Thinking about what Secretary Woods went through all those years.
Henry didn't dwell on it and made up his mind.
One such incident was enough.
Best not to bring harm to another innocent stranger.
However, what Henry didn't know was that fate always has its own plans.
Lilian chased after Darwin, "Darwin, come with me to the art exhibition this weekend, please?"
"I'm busy, find someone else." Darwin said, his tone indifferent.
"Darwin, can't we even be friends now?" Lilian clutched at his sleeve.
Darwin frowned at her.
"That day is the day I was forced into marriage, I don't want to spend it alone." Lilian said, her eyes reddening.
Darwin always felt a deep-seated guilt about it.
After a moment of silence, he said, "Just this once."
Lilian immediately smiled through her tears, "I knew I could count on you! You're the best!"
As long as he was willing to go out with her, she could persuade him to have a meal, and, after that her plan would surely succeed.
With an excited heart, Lilian watched Darwin enter the elevator.
Every blade of grass and tree in the president's office remained as before, many staff members who knew Fiona still worked at Solomon.
Darwin stepped out of the elevator.
He saw several people from the president's office gathered around the front desk and instinctively frowned.
Then he heard an excited voice say, "Doesn't she look like her? If it wasn't for the huge news about the plane crash back then, I would've believed Secretary Woods was still alive."
"What are you all doing?" Darwin asked sternly.
"Mr. Solomon!"
Several people were startled.
They were so engrossed in gossip that they'd forgotten the timing of the end of the Darwin meeting.
Wait a minute! It seemed that the meeting had ended early.
Darwin, chilled to the bone, walked over to the group of people. "Who's still alive?"
"Mr. Solomon, there's... there's a photo that's been going around online... everyone says it looks like... like Secretary Woods, who used to be by your side."
Darwin's pupils trembled violently. "Where's the photo?"
The receptionist quickly handed over the smartphone with both hands.
Darwin took it.
Over the years, from time to time, people would tell him about sightings of someone who looked very much like Fiona.
He always ran to check, but he always came back empty-handed.
Either it was the wrong person, or from a certain angle, at first glance, someone seemed slightly similar.
Darwin thought this time would be the same.
But when he saw the silhouette looking out the window amidst the wilting pink flowers on the screen, Darwin's heart seemed to stop.
"Where did this come from?" His hands shook dramatically as he looked urgently at the staff in the president's office.
"An online blogger captured it in a video, I'll... I'll find it for you right away!" The receptionist quickly located the original video.
In truth, Fiona only appeared in the video for a split second.
Darwin went back and watched it repeatedly.
The executives stood petrified, sweating profusely, feeling like they'd rather be dead than alive.
With each view, a voice inside Darwin firmly said, "It's her..."
"Cancel all my appointments for today." It took a while for Darwin to speak, then he handed the smartphone back to the receptionist, "Send me both the photo and video."
"Yes, Sir."
Afterward, Darwin headed straight back to the elevator and left the company.
The executive staff looked at each other and slumped down at the reception desk, exhausted.
"What's Mr. Solomon going to do?" someone asked.
"What else but go to look for her?"
"Ah? But what about Miss Robbins?"
"Have you ever seen a tycoon with just one woman in his life?"
"That's true."
"What a shame for that beautiful girl!"
Complaints did their rounds among the staff in the president's office.
Meanwhile, Darwin quickly drove to the science museum.
On the way, he urgently ordered someone to check the museum's surveillance footage from that day.
By the time he arrived, he received terrible news.
"Unfortunately, it was a weekday, and we had scheduled major maintenance on our surveillance systems... none of the afternoon's footage was saved." the manager informed Darwin with a regretful expression.
Darwin had run there and collapsed into a chair upon hearing the news, wondering, "Why did it have to be this way? It's definitely her, it has to be! Why was there no surveillance data precisely on that day?! Why?"
In realitly, it was because Fiona had discovered her photo spreading on the internet sooner than Darwin.
As a precaution, Fiona had someone take care of the surveillance footage the previous night.
Darwin spent the entire day at the science museum that day.
After finding out, Fiona couldn't quite pinpoint her feelings.
"You really should be in showbiz!" Ashton said, scrolling through a video and lamenting the huge online buzz it caused. She metaphorically tipped her hat to a stranger, "Such a knack for hitting the trending searches with scandal!"
"Stop teasing me." Fiona said, massaging her temples.
Who would have thought a mere one-second clip would bring her such immense trouble?
"I'm serious, it's been five years, and your and Darwin's fans are still loyally following you guys!" Ashton found it quite unusual, "Though now, there's more hate towards Darwin. If that jerk really marries Lilian, he'll be cursed by fans for life, huh?"
Fiona rubbed her hands over her face.
"While I'm in the country, I can't afford to be seen in public with the kids."
"It won't be for much longer. If need be, after I wrap up things here in the next few days, I can take the kids back to the island."
"Okay." Fiona nodded.
"And the art exhibition for Chicago this weekend?" Ashton asked, looking at Fiona.
Even though it was a collective exhibition featuring many artists, this was still a significant first-time display of Chicago's artwork in their home country.
"I have to go." she said, having never missed one of Chicago's exhibitions. "A hat and a mask should do it. Besides, Darwin's not fond of art exhibitions."
"Alright then." Ashton said, breathing a sigh of relief.
If Fiona didn't attend, Chicago would be devastated.
Two days passed and Fiona's team concluded their vacation and chartered a flight to Armie Country, embarking on their next project.
Three days and nights of nonstop work led to a rough draft of the project plan.
"Great work, everyone. Rest up at the hotel for a day, then we'll resume."
Late that night, after finishing work, Fiona and her team left the studio.
On the drive back home, Fiona passed by the apartment she used to live in, and, coincidentally, the flower shop she frequented was still open.
Hesitating momentarily, she parked the car, put on her mask, and entered the flower shop, everything inside remained unchanged.
"Miss, can I help you with anything?" The florist was surprised to have a customer so late.
"Do you have any champagne roses left?"
"Oh, what bad timing. There's only one bunch left, reserved by a regular who's about to pick it up soon." the florist said, pointing to a few bunches of flowers.
