Chapter 177 Chelsea's Scandal?
Darwin was disinterested.
He had met Antony while studying abroad, and his primary reason for being here was the acquisition of Solomons.
After concluding a meeting with Antony's legal team that day, Antony enthusiastically invited him to his grandparents' golden wedding celebration. The joy of a lifelong bond, Darwin thought, and decided to attend.
Ever since he saw a screenshot of Fiona's profile, he was increasingly convinced that Fiona was still alive. As long as she was alive, he was determined to find her.
"Did you just find out about the relationship between your grandparents and Janna?" Darwin withdrew his gaze from the window and asked coolly.
"Those were relationships from their youth. As long as I can remember, I've never seen much interaction between them." Antony sat down, his conversation quickly returning to Chelsea, "Janna's granddaughter is incredibly beautiful!"
Over the years, Antony had dated many actresses and models, too many to count on his hands, not to mention his wife of just over half a year, a rare beauty herself.
To make him take a second look, filled with marriage regret, she definitely had to be stunning.
But... Darwin remained unenthused.
At that moment, a knock sounded at the door.
"Who is it?" Antony asked.
"Antony, grandma sent me to bring some cake and wine." A delicate voice came from outside.
Antony invited her in.
Then he said to Darwin, "My sister Sophia, she's from the same school and major as you."
Darwin nodded slightly.
The door opened, and there stood Sophia, dressed to the nines, carrying a tray.
Mrs. White had merely asked her to bring some drinks over, but she also held a small cake with a rose theme.
"Do you have a guest?" Sophia spotted Darwin, her face flushed with panic up to her earlobes, "Is it... Darwin? I've seen your profile on the school's wall of honor."
"Mhm." Darwin simply nodded.
"Put the things down and then go help Grandma and Grandpa." Antony knew his sister all too well.
If Sophia didn't already know Darwin was here, would she have been so kind as to deliver drinks and cake?
Sophia glanced at Antony. Then she said coquettishly, "I'll help you cut the cake before I go."
Sophia finished slicing the cake.
Carrying a piece, she approached Darwin. "For you."
"Thank you, but I don't eat sweets." Darwin declined indifferently.
Sophia suddenly appeared flustered. "Oh, you don't eat sweets. I'll remember that!"
"Enough." Antony interjected, seeing her overdone reaction and remembering Darwin was not alone. In a low reprimand, he said, "When you have time, spend it talking to Chelsea. She graduated around the same time as you, and the projects she has done are textbook-level. You could learn a lot."
Sophia's face turned pale.
Antony is detestable! To belittle her in front of Darwin!
"Don't let rumors fool you. Those in our industry know how Chelsea landed those projects, it's all about who you sleep with. I wouldn't stoop to learn such low tactics!" Sophia scoffed coldly.
She glanced sideways at Darwin.
She wanted Darwin to know just how virtuous she was, deep down.
"Nonsense!" Antony frowned and scolded her sharply.
Sophia wished she could leap up and accuse Antony of being lecherous.
But with Darwin present, she could only murmur in a hurt tone, "It't the truth..."
After speaking, she ignored Antony, turned to Darwin, "I need to get busy, but let me know if you need anything."
"Okay." Darwin responded, his demeanor cooler than ever.
Sophia failed to read the obvious signs of Darwin's increased indifference towards her.
Darwin knew that Chelsea's projects were unrelated to Solomon's business operations.
However, he had reviewed her acquisition of a luxury car brand last year. Calling it textbook-level might be an exaggeration, but indeed, it was stunning. The deal was crafted ingeniously. To say it was achieved through sleeping around was ridiculous.
After Sophia left, Antony spoke resignedly to Darwin. "My sister is the only girl in our generation. She's been spoiled since childhood and turned out rather badly. My apologies."
Darwin remained silent. Somehow, he found himself thinking of the polite and adorable Chicago.
One day he discreetly slipped his business card into Chicago's little handbag. He wondered if she ever saw it, or perhaps her family found it instead.
Chicago's background must be quite impressive. Her parents would certainly know about Solomon's investments.
If there's been no contact since then, it might be that Chicago's parents didn't want to associate with him.
Ruminating on this, Darwin felt a touch of melancholy.
Later, he found his thoughts ridiculous. It was just a child he'd met a few times, and yet she weighed so heavily on his mind. Was it misplaced paternal affection?
After parting ways with Darwin, Fiona rarely attended such parties anymore. For one, she lacked the time, and secondly, Janna hadn't wanted her to be exposed to the public eye too soon. The scandal involving Darwin and his secretary had made quite the uproar, leading many to see Fiona's photo online. Although she had undergone a significant change in demeanor, her facial features remained the same. It could spell endless trouble if she were recognized.
Now, Janna was requesting Fiona to attend a glamorous dinner party teeming with socialites, evidence of Janna's declining health over the past two years. She was considering retiring and entrusting the Rhoads family to Fiona, to focus on spending time with Charles and Chicago as they grew up. Not being able to watch them mature was a constant source of anxiety for Janna.
"Miss Chelsea, I had no idea you were such a beauty in person." a high society lady approached Fiona with a wine glass, cheerfully clinking it against hers. Fiona found her somewhat familiar but couldn't recall where they had met.
"Did I forget to introduce myself?" the lady said with a tender smile. "I'm Vivian Klein from KJ Company."
KJ Company... Harold's mother?
"Good evening, Ma'am." Fiona replied without changing her expression.
She had lost contact with Harold even before the plane accident and only later heard some news about him. The once carefree man had outdone his illegitimate older brother with a strong background two years ago, securing a seat on KJ Company's board and becoming the designated heir.
"May I be so bold as to ask, are you married?" Vivian inquired with a smile. "If not, would you consider meeting my son?"
Before Fiona could respond, Vivian continued, "My son Harold, I don't know if you've heard of him, has never been in a relationship. He's ambitious, and not to mention, quite handsome!"
Fiona looked apologetic. "Mrs. Klein…"
Just as Fiona was about to decline, a saccharine voice sounded from behind her.
It was Sophia.
