Chapter 1447

Chicago was half-asleep, drifting in and out of consciousness.

In her haze, she heard Fiona's voice, "Chicago, time to get up."

Chicago stretched lazily on the bed, her eyes still closed. "It's not even light out yet. I want to sleep a bit more."

Mumbling to herself, she suddenly remembered that Fiona was on a business trip. But she had texted last night saying she would be back today.

Chicago opened her eyes.

There was a blurry figure in front of her, but it didn't look like Fiona.Slowly, the figure came into focus, revealing a handsome face with tears and a smile.

"Dad?" She blurted out instinctively.

Darwin's voice was choked with emotion as he responded, "Mom's gift has arrived."

"Dad!"

Chicago immediately jumped out of bed and hugged Darwin, crying.

Darwin's heart ached.

He held Chicago, gently patting her back. "I'm sorry it took me so long to come home."

Chicago didn't say anything, just continued to cry.

Fiona stood behind them, holding hands with Charles.

When they had just returned, Charles had heard the car pull into the garage and went to wait by the elevator.

When he saw Darwin, the two men shared a calm, manly hug.

But it wasn't as emotional as the current scene.

"Charles," Fiona looked at him with a mischievous smile.

Charles quickly raised his hand in a polite refusal. "Mom, I can't cry on command, no need."

Fiona's shoulders shook with laughter.

After crying in Darwin's arms, Chicago saw Fiona and cried even harder, wanting Fiona to hold her.

Fiona went over and hugged her, pointing to the bouquet of sunflowers on the bedside table. "Dad bought those."

Chicago glanced at them, her tear-streaked face burying into Fiona's embrace.

After crying in Fiona's arms for a while, Chicago wasn't done.

She then hugged Charles and cried some more.

Charles, wearing new clothes, ended up with a shoulder full of snot and tears, looking helpless.

"I told you, we should have waited until she woke up. You were in such a hurry," Charles said, looking at Fiona and Darwin with concern. "She always cries non-stop when she's not fully awake."

"Sorry, sorry, you know her best," Fiona said, clasping her hands together in apology.

Charles sighed, gently patting Chicago's shoulder. "You almost overfed Koi Number 8 today. Want to tell Mom about it?"

Chicago sniffled a couple of times.

Letting go of Charles, she said through her tears, "Charles, it wasn't me who overfed Koi Number 8. Jessie knocked over the fish food, and Number 8 ate it all because it's so greedy!"

Well, that did the trick.

Chicago's attention was immediately diverted.

Fiona discreetly gave Charles a thumbs-up.

"What's the story? Chicago, didn't I tell you to cut the daily feeding for the cats, dogs, and koi in half?" Fiona continued the conversation.

Chicago quietly moved closer to Darwin. "We did cut it in half."

Then, quickly changing the subject, she asked, "Dad, you're not just here for a vacation, right? You're not leaving again, are you?"

"I'm not leaving," Darwin said, pulling her into his arms. "From now on, Dad won't be apart from you guys anymore!"

"Are you feeling better now? Are you still sick?" Chicago asked, her lips quivering as tears welled up again.

"I'm completely better!" Darwin answered immediately.

"Then you better not get sick again!" Chicago cried on his shoulder. "Every day, I pray to God to protect Mom, and He will protect my Dad too!"

Darwin felt a lump in his throat.

"Alright, Dad won't get sick anymore," he promised.
