Chapter 1098
Halfway through, Fiona and Charles showed up together to see her.
Seeing Chicago still full of energy, Fiona glanced at Charles.
Even though Charles didn't say much about Chicago, he braved the heat to bring her food because she'd been feeling down lately. He was worried.
"Why now?" he asked Fiona, puzzled.
Fiona crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow. "She chatted with me during breakfast."
Charles stayed quiet, then slowly gave a thumbs-up.
"Do not bother her studies, let's head back," he said, taking Fiona's hand and starting to walk away.
"Aren't we delivering the food?" Fiona asked.
Charles replied, "No."
Fiona smiled and lowered her eyes.
On the way back, Fiona saw Mike hurrying over.
"Looking for me?" she asked.
Mike nodded, then glanced at Charles.
Charles said, "Mom, I'll head back first."
"Alright, there's cheesecake at the restaurant. Uncle Durham bought it. If you want some, ask Lyold to cut you a piece." Fiona patted Charles' head.
Charles nodded, said something to Mike, and walked ahead.
"Has Charles grown taller?" Mike gestured.
"What happened?" Fiona asked.
Mike slapped his forehead. "The entire Gray family is dead."
Fiona took a moment to process, remembering the Gray family who had detained Darwin.
It went back to two hours earlier.
The Gray family had been placed in a lawless area of Silvamara Bay.
Life there was tough.
Aura had gone mad.
Their meals depended on Gray and Cyrus doing odd jobs, but living costs were high.
For months, the Gray family never had enough to eat.
Aura would cause trouble in her madness.
Cyrus had to lock her up when he went out during the day.
The boss who supervised their work noticed Cyrus and Gray hadn't shown up for two days. Since Cyrus had advanced two days' wages, the boss feared he had run off, so he brought people to their home. Who knew...
When they opened the door, the house was a mess.
The Gray family was found dead in different places.
"Aura had previously offended a local boss. We suspect revenge," Mike said quietly. "In a lawless place, lives are cheap."
"Does Darwin know?" Fiona asked.
"I just got the news and came to find you. But that place was arranged by Mr. Solomon, so they probably knew before us," Mike replied.
That place was originally meant for Lilian.
Fiona understood.
"Yes." She nodded.
Just as she was about to head back, she stopped. "It's only been a few months. Wasn't anyone overseeing them there?"
