Chapter 1319
"You always hire the best people. Laura would be a great fit for the Rhoads Group if she wanted to work there," Janna said with a hint of regret. "But she's killing it at Monsoon Investment right now. I love seeing women crush it in different fields, whether they work for me or not."
"Speaking of Laura, she'll be bringing you some food in the next couple of days," Fiona said, trying to change the subject.
But Janna wasn't having it. "You always hire the best people, so what's the deal with your current secretary?"
"Think of her as a decorative piece," Fiona replied.
"I've done my homework on her. She was raised by Brooke!" Janna snorted. "Her last boss, who's now treating Darwin, was also raised by Brooke and has benefited a lot from her!"
"You're amazing; nothing gets past you!" Fiona quickly praised her.
Janna gave her a look. "What exactly are you trying to find out about her?"
Fiona got serious. "Honestly, I don't know, but there's something off about her and her mom."
"So you keep her away from Darwin?"
Fiona nodded.
"I thought you were jealous," Janna muttered. "I was thinking you wouldn't be jealous, right?"
Fiona laughed. "Don't worry, she barely interacts with me. I just pay her salary every month. Hubert feels guilty and wants to make it up to me."
"She's pretty useless; I've heard some funny stories!" Janna continued to complain.
She couldn't stand stupid people, especially those who were clueless and always looking down on others.
As they walked past the building where the bodyguards lived, a voice came from inside, "I can't do it! I really can't do it!"
Then Christopher ran out.
"What are you doing?" Janna asked.
Christopher's eyes were red, and he looked really stressed. "I don't get it. Why do parents have to do their kids' homework? I can't do it! I really can't learn it!"
Charlotte walked out slowly, holding a homework book.
Since the school year started, she had grown taller and looked different.
She seemed more graceful, but her face was always expressionless, looking cold.
"Dad, I finished it. You just need to copy it," Charlotte said, nodding to Fiona and Janna.
Even though she had a cold and somewhat strange personality, Janna really liked her.
This year, when Janna was getting clothes ready for Chicago, she always got something for Charlotte too.
Knowing Charlotte didn't like anything too pink, she got her something cool.
"Christopher, why are you making Charlotte do your homework?" Janna was shocked. "She has a ton of homework every day; you should be more responsible!"
Christopher looked really distressed.
"Mrs. Solomon, just looking at those words makes me dizzy and nauseous!" He held his head and squatted on the ground.
Just then, Stuart walked by happily with Jessie, with Milo perched on his shoulder, ready to feed them.
Seeing this, Christopher grabbed Stuart's pant leg. "Stuart, can you copy it for me? I'll pay you! Five hundred dollars!"
"What?" Stuart stroked Milo's sleek fur. "But I don't know how to write."
Janna burst into laughter.
Milo was so startled it almost fell off Stuart's shoulder.
"When's Xavier getting out of the hospital? He's not just slacking off, is he?" Last year, Christopher had Xavier help him with the copying. He also paid him 500 dollars.
Xavier had been in a coma for about ten days before waking up.
Due to excessive blood loss and uncontrollable bleeding, he had to get blood transfusions several times to barely save his life.
