Chapter 393 Will Daddy Turn Bad?

"Then a powerful person came and chased all the wild boars away and helped the rabbit family rebuild their home," Chicago mumbled.

"The powerful person?" Fiona glanced at Darwin across the room. "Was it daddy?"

Chicago twisted a little, reluctantly admitting, "Yeah..."

In last night's dream, he was clad in armor, noble and imposing, leading and defending the family of rabbits against the giant monster boar, conquering it in utter defeat—so heroic!

"Chicago." Fiona poked her waist. "Guess how mommy knew you had a nightmare."

"Because Chicago and Mommy are connected at heart!" Chicago replied quickly.

Fiona laughed.

Then she whispered in her ear, "Daddy told me. He's connected with Chicago too. He knew you had a nightmare and stayed by your side all night."

Then, she slowly turned her head and finally saw Darwin.

Darwin, smiling gently, said, "Morning, Chicago."

With sparkling eyes, Chicago stared at him for a while. "Burl said you've got blood in your brain and can't stay awake."

"Burl's right. Why don't you sleep a bit more so Daddy can rest, okay?" suggested Fiona.

Chicago nodded, snuggled back into her bed, and pulled the blanket over herself.

Then she looked at Darwin and said, "You go sleep."

Darwin nodded.

As if gathering much courage, he bent down and tenderly kissed Chicago on the forehead. "Daddy loves the gift you gave him, Chicago. Thank you."

Chicago blinked. "You're welcome."

"Alright, it’s Darwin's turn to rest," Fiona stated.

Darwin nodded again, waved at Chicago, and then got up and left the room.
Chicago watched as he walked away, and Fiona, seeing her gaze, smiled, "Some little ones are not being honest, huh? Caring a lot about daddy but pretending not to."

"Mommy." Chicago stretched out a tiny hand under the blanket, latching onto Fiona's finger.

"Yes, honey?"

"Did he change for the better? What if after I forgive him, he turns bad again?" Chicago asked with sincere concern.

Her godmother had said this about Chris before—that once she forgave him, he would quickly revert to his old ways, which was why her godmother finally let him go.

She also warned her not to choose a boyfriend like Chris in the future but to find someone like her godfather.

"That won't happen," Fiona reassured her gently while shaking her head, "No matter what happens between daddy and mommy in the future, your dad will always love you and Charles deeply."

Chicago looked half-convinced, barely awake, and soon fell into a deep sleep with these grown-up worries weighing down her five-year-old mind.

Turning her attention back, Fiona glanced at Charles. The medication he'd been taking lately was making him increasingly sleepy.

After kissing Chicago's forehead tenderly, she went to Charles's side, kissed him softly, and then tiptoed out of the room.

As she pushed open the bedroom door, planning to change in the dressing room, she stopped short at the sight of a pair of slippers at the foot of the bed.

Taking a closer look, Darwin was comfortably curled up in her bed, sound asleep.

She had intended to wake him and kick him out, but...

Darwin had lost weight recently and indeed had dark circles under his eyes.

In the end, Fiona didn't disturb him. She changed clothes, finished her makeup, and without checking on Darwin again, she headed straight downstairs.

After Stuart's departure, he had left his protégé, Mike, in charge of security for Fiona and the children.

Just as Fiona reached the bottom of the staircase, Mike approached her.

"So early?" Fiona set down her briefcase. "Have you had breakfast?"

"I've eaten already," Mike responded, " Chelsea, the young lady, spotted some suspicious individuals nearby, probably paparazzi trying to sneak photos. Stuart told us to keep an eye out. A woman keeps an eye on this place from her balcony occasionally."

"Alright," Fiona nodded, "Check out her identity."

"I've got it here." Mike handed over the tablet to Fiona.

Fiona sipped her coffee while flipping through the information.

"A Cambridge whiz kid with impressive credentials looks pretty normal. Not a paparazzo, right?"

Individuals with such academic prowess usually command high salaries wherever they go—not the type likely to be paparazzi.

"It's not that," Mike said, "But she has indeed been prying into our affairs here."

Albeit only sometimes.
Fiona glanced at the photo, a beautiful face beaming from the screen.

"I guess Darwin and I have been all over the trending searches lately; she probably recognized me," Fiona said as she handed her iPad to Mike. "Keep an eye on her for now. If she steps out of line, we'll deal with it."

"Got it!"

With that, Mike took his leave.

Fiona picked up her phone and casually scrolled through her social feed.

It didn't take long for her to spot Kenny's post.

Thalassa was always bubbly but never really embraced her lifestyle, heart and soul. That's why she rarely posted or browsed her social feed.

Fiona 'liked' Kenny's update.

Then she told Thalassa, "Hey, cutie, how did you charm your husband into a full-blown grid announcement on social media yesterday?"

Thalassa had just woken up.

She was puzzled for a moment by Fiona's message before hurrying to check Kenny's social feed.

She'd peeked in when she first added Kenny as a friend.

It was utterly barren.

But this time, the default profile background was gone, replaced with a radiant photo of her smiling.

Scrolling down, there it was, Kenny's declaration from the previous day.

She stared blankly, confusion clouding her mind, then overwhelming sadness as tears flooded her eyes.

Fiona had just finished breakfast when Thalassa replied, "I've been kept hidden for so long that suddenly facing Kenny's passionate declaration made me realize it should've been like this all along."

If you genuinely love someone, why would you ever hide them away?

Even in a relationship that can't be revealed, you'd still subtly show off your affection, right?

But Chris never did.

He wouldn't even wear the suit he received from her to significant events, as if wearing her gift would expose their secret.

Fiona felt a pang of compassion.

Among all the people she knew, Thalassa was the purest of heart, maintaining her sunny optimism and joy even after being raised in a setting like the Shaw family.

Endeavoring to warm everyone she cherished.

And then Fiona's response came: "So when will Mrs. Walker make a grand announcement of Mr. Walker?"

Thalassa slapped her forehead, sniffling.

That's right, Kenny had made it official; she couldn't keep him hidden.

Her thoughts turned to Kenny.

"Puppies get sad too," she said to herself, a laugh breaking through her tears.
