Chapter 652 Tragic

On a rainy night, Darwin concocted an excuse of a pressing matter at the company to leave Emerald Pool.

Two hours later, he reached a town near the City. Outside the morgue, Henry, who had arrived earlier, approached Darwin swiftly, despite the barrier between them, emanating the unmistakable odor of death.

"Mr. Solomon, I just examined Sebastian's family of eight. Despite decay, they remain identifiable," Henry reported solemnly.

Henry and Sebastian had been classmates, and it was Henry who had introduced Sebastian to Darwin's employ. Since then, they had deliberately severed contact to prevent any ties between Darwin and Sebastian.

Eight victims in total, including Sebastian, his wife, their three children, and both sets of grandparents.

"Any leads on the perpetrator?" Darwin inquired icily.

Henry averted his gaze, offering no response.

Darwin's stare hardened. "Must I ask twice?"

In silence, Henry displayed a photo on his phone. On the wooden board in the image, stained with blood and decay, the words "Dedicated to the Darwin couple" were starkly visible.

A storm brewed within Darwin's eyes.

"The same message was found at Alexander's residence," Henry added, showing another photo from the album.

Unlike Sebastian's, it wasn't written on a board but on the back of Alexander's wife, drenched in blood. Alexander's family had suffered a grimmer fate, with all 27 members, spanning generations, found dead in their coastal home's seafood freezer, transformed into ice sculptures.

Henry recounted the grim scene to Darwin.

"So far, we've unearthed no significant leads on either case. The perpetrator remains elusive. Initially, I suspected involvement from the European royal family, but Alexander's time of death ruled out this possibility. Simon was still alive then," Henry explained.

At that time, Lilian had recently passed away.

At that time, Christopher hadn't arrived at Armie.

Darwin's countenance turned frigid.

"Are there any other undercover agents missing?" he inquired.

Henry shook his head. "I contacted all agents after confirming these deaths. None are unaccounted for."

"Why target them?"

It was evident the assailants were after him. But among his undercover agents, why Alexander and Sebastian?

These two had seldom worked for Darwin in the past three years.

Provocation seemed futile, especially considering the more recent additions to his workforce.

Furthermore, Alexander and Sebastian were formidable adversaries.

"Did they collaborate on any investigations?" Darwin's voice resonated deeply.

Having anticipated Darwin's line of inquiry, Henry promptly handed over documents. "Given their different regions, they collaborated on few cases. These are the six we've identified."

Darwin scanned through them, his attention lingering on an incident six years prior.

"Were they involved in the Hathaway investigation?"

"Yes," Henry affirmed. "Before his engagement, Alexander was tasked with probing Hathaway's international connections. Later, Sebastian delved into the case involving falsified prenatal examination reports."

Darwin frowned.
The stench of death made Henry feel dizzy.

"Mr. Solomon, you should leave now. Don't risk being exposed to the foul odor," Henry urged, snapping Darwin back to reality.

Surveying the morgue once more, Darwin inquired, "Do they have any surviving relatives?"

Henry shook his head.

A surge of murderous intent gripped Darwin. "Whoever is responsible, they will pay dearly for this bloodshed!"

With resolve, Darwin marched out.

As he reached the door, a chill wind swept past him, sparking a realization.

"Henry."

"Here, Mr. Solomon," Henry responded promptly.

"Tell me, was Lilian's hired assassin organization considered top-tier?" Darwin queried.

Without hesitation, Henry affirmed, "The Venomous Shadows were indeed a top-tier group until Grandma Rhoads neutralized them."

"Then how could a killer from such an organization fail to eliminate a Thomas?" Darwin asked, his voice resonant with intensity.

Already having deduced the answer, Darwin swiftly made a call on his phone.

"Is the leader of The Venomous Shadows still in custody? Ensure he's alive. Let me inquire..." Darwin's voice trailed off.

After the call, he turned to Henry. "I need to see Thomas immediately."

"Understood. I will arrange it," Henry replied, swiftly taking action.

On this wintry night, with thunder rumbling and winds howling, Chicago sought solace in her brother's room, wary of the storm.

Fiona, downstairs, tucked Chicago and Charles into bed together before returning Chicago to her room, shielding her from the elements.

Gazing outside, Fiona found the once serene forest now eerie in the storm's fury, reminiscent of lurking shadows.

Drawing the curtains and checking the time, Fiona's worry grew as Darwin's absence stretched into the late hours.

Sensing something amiss, Fiona was about to call when Darwin's phone rang. She answered swiftly, "Are you back?"

"Didn't I tell you not to wait up?" Darwin's tone was gentle but resigned. "I won't be home soon. Just rest, and I'll return in the morning."

Concerned, Fiona pressed, "Is everything alright? Don't keep secrets from me."

There was a pause before Darwin spoke again. "Someone who used to assist me has passed away. I had to pay my respects."

"Who?" Fiona inquired, taken aback.

"Sebastian." The word hung heavily in the air.

"Was he murdered?" Fiona asked, her voice tinged with alarm.

Darwin's response was a solemn "Yes."

"Alright, it's stormy tonight. Take care and ask the driver to proceed cautiously. I'll wait up for your return," Fiona reassured tenderly.
