Chapter 1479
Charles pressed his thin lips together.
Chicago seemed to have forgotten that twins often had a telepathic connection.
"Have you met him?" Charles asked.
She shook her head and then added, "Does a photo count?"
"Sure."
"He looks like he's from Valeria," Chicago replied. "Charlotte said he's nice to her, so he must be a good guy."
"Great-grandma isn't too happy. Go keep her company and stop crying," Charles said softly, ruffling Chicago's hair.
She nodded but didn't leave.
"Charles, Charlotte is like our own sister. She saved our lives when we were kids. Her getting married is a big deal. What should we get her as a gift? How about buying her an estate as a wedding present?"
Charles looked at her.
"We'll talk about it later."
"Later? She's going back to get the marriage certificate with him soon!" Chicago grumbled. "It's settled then. I'll check your finances. You're loaded. If I don't have enough, you can lend me some, and I'll pay you back in installments!"
As she spoke, Chicago started to feel sad again. "I need to give Charlotte a proper home!"
"A proper home?" Charles looked at her. "Isn't our home proper enough?"
"It's different. This is her family home. Once Charlotte gets married, she'll have her own home with her husband," Chicago explained seriously.
Charles didn't quite get it.
He frowned slightly.
"Charles, what's wrong?" Chicago asked suspiciously. "Why do you suddenly seem angry?"
Charles was a bit annoyed.
"I'm not angry."
"Yes, you are. I can tell. We're twins, remember?"
She paused, as if something had just occurred to her.
Covering her mouth, she exclaimed, "Oh my God, you don't mean..."
Charles looked at her calmly, waiting for her to figure it out and say it.
"You're in love with Charlotte?"
Charles was speechless.
"Oh my God, you're doomed!" Chicago clutched her head, pacing back and forth in a panic.
Charles remained silent.
"I always said your introverted nature would be your downfall! Secret crushes never end well. You should have confessed ages ago!" Chicago bit her thumb. "Wait!"
She looked sharply at Charles. "You wouldn't have the same prejudices as Dad did when he was young, thinking that Charlotte's background is not good, would you?"
Charles was still speechless.
Chicago continued her self-dialogue, "No, no, you wouldn't. Besides, Charlotte is now an internationally renowned entomologist. How could she not be good enough for you?"
"It's not a secret crush."
"Right, not a secret crush. It's an open one. But did you forget to let the other person know?" Chicago mocked.
"We were together."
Chicago was stunned.
She covered her mouth, looking around in shock before turning back to him. "Are you dreaming?"
"Oh my God!" She suddenly thought of the Mitchell family's history of mental illness.
'Could Charles be having an episode? Hallucinating?'
Seeing Chicago's expression, Charles seemed to read her mind perfectly.
"Four years ago, Charlotte and I were together," Charles said slowly, each word deliberate. He then gave a self-deprecating smile. "But according to her, it was just a fling."
Chicago's hand landed on Charles.
"Charles!" She was shocked at her reaction and quickly stepped forward. "It was an instinctive reaction. How could you say it was just a fling? That's so messed up!"
