Chapter 1264
Jam barked out orders, "Alright, listen up! Every department needs to do a thorough check on their team. If anyone's made big mistakes, they're out. If they're just sitting around doing nothing, they're out. And if they didn't graduate from a top school and haven't contributed anything, show them the door."
The room went dead silent.
Jam's eyes narrowed, "I'm not kidding this time. If I catch anyone covering for someone, you're packing your bags and leaving too!"
With that, he stormed out and called a few of his most reliable and hardworking tech folks into his office.
The engineers at Solomon Group AI were the best in the business.
This was a golden opportunity. He needed to rally the smart minds in the company to build a brighter future.
Fiona spent the whole day feeling stiff and sore in her shoulders, back, and neck.
"Ms. Woods, you really didn't have to come in person. I could've handled it," Henry said quietly, walking beside her.
Fiona took a sip of water.
"I have my reasons," she replied casually.
"What reasons?"
"Jam's wife helped me out once," Fiona said, still in that same casual tone.
It wasn't really help, though.
The year Phoenix Prism signed a deal with Solomon Group was her second year working with Darwin.
Darwin must've realized he was getting too attached to her, so he suddenly turned cold.
At the signing banquet, Fiona, who had been working non-stop under Darwin's orders for over three months, was exhausted and her stomach was killing her that night.
She found a quiet corner to rest.
A plain-looking woman approached her and asked, "Is it your period?"
Fiona waved her off. "Just a stomachache."
The woman nodded, left for a bit, and came back with some warm water and an unopened box of stomach medicine. "My husband gets stomachaches too, so I always carry this. Take a couple of pills, it works wonders!"
Feeling better, Fiona returned to the event and saw the woman standing with Jam from Phoenix Prism. She realized the woman was Jam's wife, Azeliea.
When she later reviewed Darwin's unfinished business, she noticed the name Phoenix Prism and paid special attention to it.
"His wife?" Henry thought for a moment. "I think she passed away a while ago."
"Yeah. Back then, I was still Darwin's secretary," Fiona said. "Pancreatic cancer. From diagnosis to passing, it was just four weeks."
She regretted that by the time she found out, it was already three months after Azeliea's funeral.
"You're really sentimental, remembering all this," Henry remarked.
Fiona didn't respond.
Was she sentimental?
She always thought she was pretty indifferent.
She just believed that if someone was good to her, she should repay them.
Otherwise, it wouldn't be fair.
"Phoenix Prism is a mess, top to bottom. Reviving it is like climbing a mountain," Fiona continued. "I've done all I can. The rest is up to Jam."
"I'll go talk to the Solomon Group's AI lab," Henry offered, seeing how tired Fiona was and hoping she could rest.
"No need, I'll handle it myself," Fiona said. When she spoke to the lab, they agreed right away, not even asking why. After getting the time, address, and contact person, they promised to be there on time.
