Chapter 195 Will Love You Forever And Always

Chris, who had been silent, spoke up calmly, "Auntie, Ashton has been doing well. She doesn't need your concern over her studies or work."

Maria was slightly taken aback.

Even Justin looked at his son in surprise.

"Chris is right," Justin quickly added, "you're too harsh on Ashton!"

Maria came to her senses.

She smiled awkwardly, "Is that so? If everyone feels that way, then I really need to reflect on this..."

Ashton's appearance seemed like a brief interlude to their meeting. Soon, everyone returned to the topics they hadn't finished discussing.

Meanwhile Ashton said to Chicago, "Loosen your grip, Chicago. Ashton can barely breathe."

Yet Chicago continued to hold onto Ashton's neck.

"Why does Chris have to marry a woman he doesn’t know? If he marries a strange woman, what will you do?" Chicago couldn't understand.

He and Ashton had kissed.

Wasn't that a sign of affection?

Why, then, in such a short period of time, was he going to marry someone else?

"Don't worry about it!" Ashton patted Chicago's bottom.

Chicago didn't speak, seeming to wait for her answer.

Ashton gazed forward, pondering for a moment before speaking, "In this city, it's rare for someone to love another their whole life. "

Chicago nuzzled her neck, replying, "Ashton, I will always love you."

Ashton smiled and gave her cheek a firm kiss.

Tickled, Chicago giggled under her touch.

As Ashton watched her laughing, she, too, began to smile.

Indeed, no matter who leaves who, doesn't everyone have to carry on living well?

Chris had already moved on.

There was no reason for her to stay in the same place, wallowing in futile sadness and grief!

Upon reaching the private dining room, Chicago simply couldn't part from Ashton.

At dinner, she clung to Ashton, and after eating, she snuggled into her embrace.

Every now and then, she'd pop up and say, "Ashton, you're so beautiful!"

Eventually, Janna thought it was enough and couldn't help but ask, "Ashton, do you have something on me that I love dearly? Name your price!"

Ashton looked at Janna and held up three fingers.

"Three hundred million dollars."

"Three hundred million?" Janna scoffed, "I might as well spend three to five million on hiring some hitmen from the black market to silence you, divide the leftover money between Charles and Chicago!"

"What about me?" inquired Fiona.

"You?" Janna glanced at her, "I even suspect that you're colluding with Ashton."

Fiona burst into hearty laughter.

Ashton turned to Chicago, "Do you see now why Grandma Janna is a wealthy woman?"

Chicago, somewhat understanding, nodded.

The atmosphere gradually improved because of their banter.

Janna, having drunk a bit too much, left the restaurant with somewhat unsteady steps.

Chicago, it being her bedtime, had already fallen asleep in Ashton's arms.

Stuart supported Janna, with Fiona holding Charles's hand, following behind.

After a couple of steps, noticing Charles was clearly sleepy, Fiona simply carried him.

Charles, docilely drooping his head, rested on Fiona's shoulder.

Mother always smelled so sweet, giving a deep sense of security.

The group departed in two cars, just as they had arrived.

When they were near home, Janna took a call that sobered her up considerably.

"Uh-huh, keep them detained."

The call ended.

Janna's expression darkened.

She glanced at the peaceful, sleeping Chicago in Ashton's lap.

"What's wrong?" Ashton asked.

They were not in the same car as Fiona.

"Did something happen back home that you didn't tell me about?" Janna questioned.

Ashton was taken aback.

"Ask your granddaughter," she muttered.

"Darwin has hired someone to secretly take pictures of Fiona," Janna said coldly.

Ashton was shocked. "He... He's only seen Chicago, right? How could he..."

"He's seen my Chicago already?" Janna seized on the key piece of information.

Ashton was straightforward. "Didn't she keep mentioning some 'uncle' just now? That's Darwin... Fiona had just returned to the country. It was either the second or third day when she unexpectedly encountered Darwin. That same evening, they met again at the restaurant where they had just dined!"

"What about the art exhibition?" Janna asked.

"The exhibition was probably an accident, he was there with Lilian," Ashton replied.

Janna's face was full of fury.

"But I really didn't know that he had seen Fiona!" Ashton was terrified.

"What's there to be afraid of?" Janna scoffed. "I always knew he'd meet Fiona sooner or later. What can he do about it? Would the next head of the Rhoads family be someone he can influence?"

"So someone took pictures of Fiona, and your people caught him?" Ashton asked.

"Mm-hm," Janna nodded. "You kids are still too careless! You don't even know when Darwin started watching you!"

The cars arrived one after the other.

Fiona stepped into the house and immediately learned about the photos being taken.

"I've already had people check the surveillance in the neighborhood and around your villa. That guy followed you for several days but never managed to get into the community," Janna said gravely. "Tonight was his first time getting photos of you and the child together. Luckily, we discovered it in time, otherwise, if these photos were sent to Darwin, the child's situation could no longer be hidden."

"Damn it!" Fiona cursed through clenched teeth.

"For safety, I'll have someone take Chicago and Charles back to the island tomorrow," Janna paused for a moment. "You will have to face Darwin eventually, but Fiona, you don't need to fear anything. I will always be your strongest support. Darwin is nothing to me!"

"Okay!" Fiona nodded and returned to her room.

Thinking back and forth, she just couldn't let go of the anger inside.

She took out her phone and directly redialed Darwin's number.

The phone rang once.

Then it was picked up.

Before she could speak, a delicate voice came from the other end, "Darwin's busy. Is there something you need from him?"

It was Lilian's voice.

Fiona felt like she had lived this scene before.

But she wasn't the person she used to be, the one who would hurriedly hang up upon hearing another woman's voice on Darwin's end.

"Yes, please ask him to call me back when he's free."

"You can tell me first," Lilian's voice sounded somewhat breathless.

It's hard not to let one's thoughts stray towards ambiguity.

Fiona just felt disgusted.

"You don't get to decide this. Have him call me."

With that, Fiona didn't give Lilian a chance to respond.

She hung up the phone.

Lilian lay in her hospital bed, listening to the dial tone on the other end, so angry she could smash her phone.
