Chapter 1169
Darwin and Fiona were making their first public appearance together since Darwin's mysterious vanishing act, and the internet was losing its mind.
Folks dug up an old pic from last year where Darwin was giving Fiona the heart eyes and compared it to today's snap.
Random User: [Same people, but the vibes are totally different now.]
Random User: [Back when Ms. Woods was just a stand-in, she looked like a sweet little bunny, and Darwin was the big bad wolf, ready to pounce. Now, Ms. Woods is the boss, and Darwin looks like a well-behaved puppy!]
Random User: [Yeah, Darwin's looking real tame now!]
Random User: [I hope Darwin and Fiona stay happy!]
Random User: [People are noticing scars on Darwin's face and neck. Seems like the accident really messed him up. Hope he's fully recovered.]
Someone replied: [I study psychology. With injuries like that, the hardest part is the mental recovery.]
A bunch of people with similar experiences started sharing their stories.
Random User: [I had a car accident a couple of years ago. Now I walk or take the subway to get around because I can't sit in the car without freaking out..]
Random User: [Same here. I lost a leg in a car accident years ago. I seem cheerful, but the pain and fear never left me. I constantly think about dying.]
Random User: [I survived a major earthquake almost twenty years ago. I still can't face the night. For the first ten years, I saw my dead friends beside me. It got a bit better after I got married and had a baby.]
There were hundreds of comments like these.
One comment from a specific IP address stood out.
Random User: [Darwin's biological father was a lunatic, so his chances of going crazy are much higher. It's karma!]
Ashton noticed this comment while scrolling and took a screenshot. She wanted to reply, but the comment and the account were deleted shortly after, like the person got spooked.
Ashton hesitated, then messaged Fiona.
Ashton: [Fiona, call me when you're free.]
Two hours later, after Fiona and Darwin's meeting, Fiona saw Ashton's message. She and Darwin walked to the CEO's office, both in good spirits. Fiona called Ashton back immediately.
Ashton answered right away.
"What's up?" Fiona asked, smiling.
"Is it convenient to talk?" Ashton asked softly.
Fiona knew Ashton had something important to say. She told Darwin and walked to the balcony.
While waiting for the elevator, Darwin's eyes followed Fiona.
The damp air and sound of water droplets surrounded him again.
"You’re afraid and worried again," said the annoying voice that hadn't been around for days.
Henry and several other VPs were present. Darwin looked ahead, pretending not to hear.
"Ashton doesn't like me. She always wanted Fiona to break up with me," the annoying voice continued. "Why is Fiona suddenly avoiding you to answer the phone?"
Darwin still ignored him.
