Chapter 112 Lilian
In reality, Fiona didn't feel that it made any difference whether she had a father or not. However, she had to address the root of the problem.
"Fiona, you're still young... you..."
"You're not trying to persuade me not to have children, are you?" Fiona looked surprised.
Janna looked at her and continued with care, "If it wasn't Darwin's children, I wouldn't advise you..."
"Grandma Rhoads, the babies in my belly is my only blood relatives in this world. I won't give up for any reason!" Fiona suddenly became serious.
"No!" Tears fell from Janna’s eyes. She thought how could Fiona say that only the babies were her blood relative? She had so many other loved ones!
Stuart came in with a prepared fish soup.
"Alright, let's not talk about this anymore. Your health is the most important." Fiona took the soup from Stuart's hands and fed it to Janna. "You haven't found your granddaughter yet, so you can't give up like this."
Janna Rhoads nodded.
Fiona fed Janna the soup, by the spoonful, gentle and careful. The more Fiona acted this way, the more Janna worried. In her heart, there was unprecedented fear and guilt.
Janna stayed at the hospital for four days, and Fiona stayed with her for four days. After those four days, Janna was discharged.
"Fiona, Grandma needs to take care of some things and will come back to see you soon." After being discharged, Janna planned to go back and originally wanted to take Fiona along.
But Fiona still didn't want to go. After considering it, Janna decided to respect Fiona's wishes to stay in Serene City with her. However she needed to go back to handle some matters.
Fiona smiled and nodded as she saw Janna off. Just as Fiona returned to the hotel, Darwin called.
"Madam Janna left?"
"Mm." Fiona seemed a bit absent-minded.
"I've almost finished handling everything on my end. Tomorrow morning, I'll come pick you up." Darwin paused for a moment, then gently said, "Fiona, I think you're about to go crazy with longing."
Fiona blushed and replied, “Don't be so improper!"
"I said I miss you, but I didn't say in what way. How is that improper?" Darwin laughed.
Shocked, Fiona quickly changed the topic, "Actually, you don't have to come pick me up. I can go back by myself."
"Besides picking you up, I have other things to do."
"What things?"
"We're getting married, and you should introduce me to your elders." Darwin's tone was solemn and gentle.
Fiona's heart skipped a beat. She was momentarily taken aback.
"Oh... I see."
"Are you not happy?" Darwin couldn't sense much emotion from Fiona's tone.
Of course, I'm happy she thought to herself. It seemed like a fantasy come true. How could I not be happy?
"I just feel... like this is unreal, like I'm dreaming."
In Bay City, there was a drizzling rain, Darwin listened to Fiona's words. His heart felt as if it had been scratched by a cat's claws. Originally, Darwin planned to pick up Fiona tonight, but due to the weather, neither a commercial nor a private plane could fly.
After hanging up the phone, Darwin decided to go directly to the airport. As long as there was a way to get to Serene City, whether by private or commercial plane, he would leave immediately.
"I will be staying in Serene City for a few days. Take care of things here." Darwin walked outside the company building while instructing his assistant, Liu, about the work.
Liu, of course, knew why Mr. Solomon was going to Serene City. A smile appeared on her face.
"Don't worry, I will handle everything!"
Darwin noded and got up to make his way to the door.
Then, for some reason, he stopped in his tracks.
Liu looked in the direction Darwin was staring, feeling puzzled. In the reception area of the lobby, a slender woman stood there, her eyes sparkling with tears as she looked at Mr. Solomon. What surprised Liu even more was the face of this woman.
"Miss Lilian?" Liu exclaimed in astonishment. In reality, Liu had never seen Lilian before. But she knew she resembled Fiona, and even more so than Bella. So when Liu saw this familiar face, the name immediately popped into her mind.
"Darwin." Lilian walked towards Darwin.
Darwin stood there, looking serious. "Liu, you can go off duty now," he said coldly.
"Yes!" Liu felt anxious inside. She wanted to call Fiona right away. But she was, after all, Darwin's assistant, so no matter how much she admired Fiona, she had to maintain her boundaries. Reluctantly, she left.
Lilian approached Darwin. She had lost even more weight since the last time Darwin saw her.
"Why did you come?" Darwin asked, his tone icy.
"I'm sorry," Lilian said, her eyes turning red. "Last time, I should have listened to your advice and ended things with him earlier."
Darwin furrowed his brow. Indeed, when he went to Europe last time, he had wanted to bring Lilian back.
"I'm divorced now," Lilian looked at Darwin with tearful eyes. "Darwin, the things you said back then, they are still-"
"Is it arithmetic?"
The words spoken at that time...
Memories flooded his my mind. Darwin had gone to Europe back then, giving himself a reason.
To see how miserable this heartless woman was, to see her deserve punishment. But when he got there, Lilian's friends told him that Lilian was forced into marriage by her family, with help from Anniston and Madam Li . None of them liked Lilian.
They couldn't wait to force Lilian into marriage, with the help of her family. And finally, they labeled her as unfaithful and greedy. After marriage, Lilian's husband not only cheated on her, but also abused her. She had been living in a very bad situation. That day, he couldn't hold back anymore and went to see Lilian. She had bruises on her face and wounds on her hands.
Darwin was both heartbroken and angry, "He's treating you like this, why don't you get a divorce? If you divorce now and come back with me, I'll take care of you!"
More memories came flooding back. Darwin looked at Lilian, "Lilian, it was my mother and grandmother who pushed you into the pit, I am responsible, and of course I will take care of you."
Lilian was taken aback. Did Darwin mean to distance himself from her with his words?
"I... I understand." Lilian was already thin, looking weak and sickly.
Now, she seemed to have suffered a huge blow. Her body swayed slightly as she took a faint look at Darwin, "Don't misunderstand, I just wanted to see you... I know you're busy, so I'll leave first!"
She finished speaking. Wiping away her tears, she turned around to leave.
Darwin watched, feeling a tightness in his heart. He looked at Lilian, her frail figure walking towards the door. Just as she was about to reach the door, Lilian's body suddenly went limp, falling straight to the ground.
"Lilian!" Darwin exclaimed as he quickly ran to her
