Chapter 1499
Janna replied, "If she doesn't want you anymore, what good would it do for me to try to keep her? You know how stubborn your wife is, right?"
Wife. Charles couldn't help but smile.
"Then I'll have her come and get it later," Charles said, looking at Janna sincerely. "Our marriage, getting your approval, it would make her very happy."
"Don't have her come later. Come before you go to get your marriage certificate tomorrow," Janna said more seriously.
"Why?" Charles was worried Janna might suddenly have other thoughts.
"It's too little," Janna said earnestly. "She's marrying into our family, I need to prepare another gift."
Charles thought for a moment.
"Grandma Rhoads, then you can give her another check. I'll cover it, but give it in your name."
"What do you mean?" Janna asked suspiciously.
"Charlotte is short on money right now."
"What?"
Charles explained her situation clearly to Janna.
"I'm so angry!" Janna frowned. "We have more money than we can spend. Why would she feel the need to suffer instead of just asking for help?"
"You said it yourself, she's stubborn," Charles said, though his face was full of affection. "She wouldn't want to sell anything you give her, and she might not accept money directly from me, so..."
Janna shook her head repeatedly, then glanced at him. "Your wife probably doesn't have much left, right? Her research and conservation work, I don't fully understand it, but I know it's expensive. Does she have enough money for three years?"
Charles lowered his eyes. "She has enough."
"You, you!" Janna continued shaking her head.
It was clear that over the past three years, he had been secretly funneling money to Charlotte without her noticing.
Late at night.
Charlotte and Charles sat at the spot where Charlotte had once cried secretly in the middle of the night.
"I thought it would be incredibly difficult, but it turned out to be so easy," Charlotte said, looking at the check Darwin had silently handed her when he got home.
The amount was so high that Charlotte wondered if he had made a mistake.
"It was never difficult," Charles said. "My mom even thinks she got a good deal."
Charlotte looked at him; her eyes reflected his image."I will be good to you," Charlotte said solemnly.
Charles was taken aback.
Then he buried his head in her arms.
Not far away.
Unable to sleep, Darwin dragged Fiona out for a walk.
They happened to see this scene from a distance.
Darwin was speechless.
"What? Do you think Charlotte isn't good enough for Charles?" Fiona pinched his chin and turned his face towards her.
Darwin held her hand in his palm.
"I just think everything is predestined."
"What do you mean?"
"She saved Charles and Chicago's lives back then, so it was destined that we would have to repay her with Charles," Darwin said seriously.
Fiona thought for a moment, then smiled. "Charles told me that it was that night he decided Charlotte would be his lifelong partner."
Darwin frowned. "Why didn't he tell me?"
"Who knows?" Fiona said proudly.
"That kid, knowing how to find a wife at such a young age!" Darwin didn't dare to say the rest.
He had only figured it out when he was nearly thirty, almost missed his own wife."After dinner, I asked Charles about the wedding house and such. Guess what?"
"What?"
