Chapter 1501
The marriage registration went off without a hitch.
When they received their marriage certificate, both Charles and Charlotte felt a bit dazed.
Chicago was darting around them excitedly.
"Let me see! Let me see!"
Charlotte laughed and handed the marriage certificate to Chicago.
Chicago's eyes sparkled as she looked at the certificate, still warm from the printer.
She held it carefully in her hands and opened it gently.
She murmured, "Good thing you two got lucky. Imagine if you had rushed here and something went wrong..."
Just as she finished speaking, a large hand reached over and took the certificate from her.
Chicago frowned at the person who took it. "Charles, I wasn't done looking!"
"Don't mess it up," Charles said cautiously, tucking the two certificates into his pocket and giving them a gentle pat.
Chicago was speechless.
"Charlotte! Look at him!" Chicago stomped her foot.
Charlotte laughed.
Seeing her laugh, Chicago's eyes sparkled even more.
"Charlotte, you're so beautiful!"
"Chicago, that's enough."
"Charlotte!"
Suddenly, a familiar angry shout came from not far away.
Chicago turned around immediately.
It was Melissa!
Chicago pursed her lips.
Because Charles was in such a hurry to get married, they hadn't told anyone about it.
When she went out with Charles and Charlotte, she overheard Fiona talking to Ashton about it on the phone.
"Melissa!" Chicago quickly ran over.
"Is it true?" Melissa grabbed Chicago's hand. "My mom said Charles is marrying Charlotte?"
"Keep your voice down! People might think you're here to catch them cheating!" Chicago pulled Melissa away.
Charlotte and Charles exchanged a glance.
They both followed them outside.
"Melissa had a verbal engagement with you, right?" Charlotte whispered.
"Just a joke," Charles replied immediately.
But Charlotte felt a bit uneasy.
Once they reached an open area, Melissa turned her back to Charlotte and Charles, crying loudly.
"Liars! You're all liars!"
"Melissa." Charlotte took a step forward.
Melissa turned around, her face streaked with tears. "You said you were getting married, and it's to him?"
"No, it wasn't him back then!" Charlotte quickly waved her hands.
Charles almost laughed in exasperation.
"What? It wasn't him back then? How many 'hims' do you have?" Melissa buried her face in Chicago's shoulder, crying even harder. "Liars! You're all liars!"
"Are you serious?" Chicago patted her shoulder, trying to comfort her. "Do you really like Charles? Didn't you say he was too strict and you were scared of him?"
"Who likes him?" Melissa sprang away from Chicago. "Chicago, stop talking nonsense!"
"Then why are you crying?" Chicago asked, shocked.
"I... I..." Melissa stammered for a while, then burst into tears again. "They went behind my back! Why? Why does Charles get to do this?"
Chicago was speechless, as well as Charles.Charles took Charlotte's hand. "Let's go home."
"Let go of her hand!" Melissa cried out.
In her mind, Charlotte was unattainable.
Charles was much younger, always buried in data. Besides his good looks, how could he be worthy of Charlotte?
Charles must have used some trick!
"That's enough, that's enough. If you keep crying, Charles is going to get mad," Chicago said, patting Melissa's shoulder and whispering in her ear.
Melissa's sobs hitched.
Then she gathered her courage and whispered, "I'm scared of him?"
Chicago whispered back, "Yes, you are."
