Chapter 1239

When Darwin woke up again, he found himself in a hospital gown, lying in a ward.

This ward wasn't like the usual ones.

The walls weren't that harsh white; they had a calming, light green tint.

"You're awake?" Fiona's voice came from beside him.

Darwin's mind clicked, and the memories from before he passed out came rushing back.

He quickly sat up.

"Take it easy," Fiona said, standing up too.

"Fiona..." Darwin looked at her, then at her neck.

A few days had passed, and the bruises on her neck had faded a bit but were still pretty visible.

Hubert had made her ditch the scarf and concealer.

Maybe it was better for Darwin to face the truth, to help him accept the treatment at the institute later.

Darwin reached out to touch her neck but hesitated.

Fiona took his hand and placed it on her neck. "He did this."

Tears immediately welled up in Darwin's eyes, and he felt utterly helpless.

"Isn't he awful?" Fiona started crying too, but she still managed a smile. "So you have to beat him, for me, Charles, and Chicago. Make sure he can't hurt us again. Darwin, you have to stay here."

"But I'll miss you," Darwin said, feeling extremely upset.

Even when he was a child, disliked by Anniston and ignored by Adien, he had never felt this aggrieved.

Fiona's heart ached.

She kissed Darwin gently a few times, saying, "I'll miss you too. I believe in you and Hubert. The treatment won't take too long."

Darwin got it, but he still broke down.

He hugged Fiona and sobbed uncontrollably.

"I'll tell Charles and Chicago that you're off doing something important, but they're smart. They might get suspicious if it takes too long," Fiona said, gently patting Darwin's hand. "Hopefully by then, your treatment will show results, and you can video call them."

Darwin knew he should agree, but he couldn't bring himself to say it.

Just thinking about Fiona leaving, not seeing her for a long time, filled him with fear.

After a while, Hubert came in.

It was time for Fiona to go.

"Don't you have an institute in the States? Can't I stay there?" Darwin asked Hubert.

Hubert looked at Fiona.

Fiona let go of Darwin, took a deep breath, and asked, "Is that boy named Aiden here?"

Darwin was stunned.

He thought Fiona's question was strange.

But then, Darwin saw Aiden outside the ward window, neatly dressed, holding a soccer ball, waving at him.

For someone without a mental disorder, this scene would be confusing.

But for Darwin, who had a mental disorder, he was puzzled but didn't find it absurd. He looked at Fiona and asked, "Did you bring him too?"

"Is he here?" Fiona asked.

Darwin pointed outside the window. "There."

Fiona looked at Darwin with sorrow, then said softly, "We can't see him."

Darwin was momentarily confused. "What do you mean you can't see him?"

"Only you can see Aiden," Fiona said, her voice choked with tears. "That time in the park, only you went through the thorn bushes. When you went to his hometown, you were the only one in all the scenes. Darwin, he's your hallucination, a person who doesn't exist."

Darwin felt like he'd been struck by lightning. He turned to look out the window.
