Chapter 588 I Don't Mind Your Past
Charles, who had managed to startle Burl thoroughly, calmly picked up a book and strolled downstairs, his demeanor unfazed by the earlier events.
After a moment, just as Charles was about to leave, Burl's phone rang, breaking the quiet.
Still rattled, Burl answered the phone with a wavering voice, "Charles, you really took it too far with your scare tactics!"
Remaining composed, Charles questioned, "Was it truly that frightening?"
"Of course it was, and you know it!" Burl snapped back, his anger evident.
"I am just a kid, scary stuff is not suitable for me to watch, so I added some random scary elements without watching it myself," Charles explained calmly.
Burl fell silent, recognizing Charles's strong self-preservation instincts.
"Uncle, please refrain from scaring my sister again," Charles politely requested over the phone, his tone carrying a hint of warning.
Unintentionally, Burl's mind drifted back to the earlier fright from the ghostly encounter. He sensed a subtle threat in Charles's words.
"Alright, alright. It was Chicago who claimed she wasn't afraid of caterpillars anyway," Burl grumbled, changing the subject, "So, when does your winter break start? Are you still coming to the Solomon family, or do you want to visit your uncle?"
"No thanks, I prefer to sunbathe. Goodbye, Uncle," Charles responded before ending the call.
Charles sighed inwardly, pondering the expectations placed on him despite his youth. He glanced over at Chicago, who had already forgotten her fear and was playing happily with Jessie. Returning to his chair, Charles resumed basking in the sun.
Observing Charles, Fiona remarked, "His maturity surpasses that of many adults." Darwin nodded in agreement, but their moment was interrupted by Anthony's ringing phone, causing Darwin's expression to darken.
"Did you include too many names on the lawsuit list?" Anthony's exasperated voice echoed through the room.
"Just proceed with the lawsuit as instructed. Don't concern yourself with legal fees," Darwin replied casually.
"Fine," Anthony reluctantly agreed, "Lilian fainted upon receiving the test results and has been admitted to the hospital. She's been insisting on seeing you since waking up."
Darwin's demeanor turned cold. "How many times must I say that I won't see her?"
"Understood, but she did save your life. Ignoring her completely might lead to negative media coverage," Anthony warned tactfully.
Darwin's hostility intensified at the mention of Lilian. Sensing the tension, Fiona shifted her gaze from Charles to Darwin, their eyes meeting briefly before Darwin instructed Anthony to focus on his tasks and ended the call.
"Lilian still believes she can manipulate me with her 'savior' status," Darwin stated icily.
Fiona comforted him, assuring, "Just be patient. Once we find evidence disproving her whereabouts during the incident, her lies will be exposed."
"Hmm," Darwin acknowledged, his mood improving slightly after Fiona's reassurance.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Lilian's situation grew dire as reporters bombarded her phone with calls. Frustrated, she began blocking numbers, trying in vain to reach Jason for assistance.
Realizing Jason had likely blocked her, Lilian's anxiety heightened. Desperate, she attempted to contact Darwin and Fiona, but her calls went unanswered.
As the evening wore on, Lilian's desperation grew. Eventually, she reached Anthony, pleading to see Darwin in return for past favors.
"Lilian, Darwin won't see you. It's clear the child isn't his," Anthony conveyed firmly.
Determined, Lilian insisted, "The child is his! You have to make him see me!"
Anthony, resigned, promised to pass on her message before advising her to lay low and avoid stirring up trouble.
Disheartened, Lilian waited in vain for Darwin's response, her hope dwindling with each passing day.
Meanwhile, Fiona's image circulated online, leaving Lilian consumed by regret and jealousy. In a moment of vulnerability, she received a call from Simon, offering her a chance to start anew with him and their child.
"Lilian, I have a flight tomorrow night and I'll arrive in Armie the day after," Simon's voice echoed through the phone. "I don't mind your past, and if you come back with me, I'll take care of the child as if it were my own, regardless of who the father is." "
