Chapter 1030

Fiona smiled and went out with Burl.

Jessie bit her own bed and dragged it to the bedside. With her big paws, she stomped on it, turned around a few times, and curled up comfortably.

Fiona glanced back and gently closed the door.

Darwin was standing at the doorway.

Burl anxiously asked, "Have you found the murderer?"

Fiona walked towards the living room.

Only when they were far from Chicago's room did she speak, "No, and we found two more bodies."

Burl's legs went weak for a moment, then he became furious. "Thalassa is still recuperating. Who could do such a thing at this time? It's outrageous!"

"Don't let it slip in front of her." Fiona looked at Burl.

Burl nodded repeatedly. "Fiona, I'm not stupid. I know how to handle it!"

"Yes." Fiona nodded. "We can't say what will happen tomorrow. If Darwin and I weren't here, you take the kids and celebrate Brady's birthday."

"Got it." Burl nodded obediently.

"Alright, it's late. Go get some rest." Fiona patted Burl's shoulder.

"You should sleep early, too. Mr. Beaumont said you shouldn't overwork and stay up late!" Burl muttered.

"Okay." Fiona nodded.

In the end, Burl didn't return to his room.

He wasn't exactly timid, but the scene by the lake had scared him.

After some thought, he decided to hide in Chicago's room.

He made a temporary bed on the floor and slept there.

Jessie, half-asleep, opened her eyes. Seeing Burl also sleeping on the floor, she got up, dragged her dog bed next to Burl, and continued to rest beside him.

The heavy rain paused for a while, then started again.

Fiona came out after taking a shower.

Darwin patiently helped her dry her hair.

"Were you mad at me this afternoon?" Darwin asked, bending down to face Fiona after putting away the hairdryer.

Fiona looked at him. "Yes."

"Are you still mad?" Darwin continued.

Fiona sighed and shook her head. "You want to protect me and the child. What's wrong with that?"

"Nothing is more important to me than you four," Darwin said earnestly.

"I know," Fiona said, holding his hand. "For a long time, Thalassa and I protected each other. I'm used to protecting her in everything. Now that Kenny is here, I should step back a bit and not take over what Kenny should do."

Darwin lowered his eyes and smiled helplessly. "Alright, no more reflecting. Let's sleep."

Fiona lay down.

A small nightlight was left on by the bedside.

Darwin and Fiona lay in each other's arms.

Before long, Fiona's breathing became steady.

But in the darkness, Darwin slowly opened his eyes.

The sound of water droplets carrying moisture was still clearly audible amidst the white noise of the heavy rain.

And this time, it lasted longer than any previous occasion.

It wasn't until dawn that Darwin slowly closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep.

When Fiona woke up, Darwin was still sound asleep.

She glanced at the time.

She vaguely heard Chicago's voice outside.

Then she moved gently.

Darwin didn't wake.

She carefully removed his hand from her waist, got up, and put on a light jacket before leaving the room.

"Mommy!" Chicago was full of energy. Seeing Fiona, she immediately rushed over.

Fiona made a quiet gesture, saying, "Daddy is still sleeping."

Chicago was shocked. "Usually, it's Mommy who sleeps in!"

Fiona couldn't help but laugh. "I work hard. It's understandable to sleep in sometimes."

"Yes!" Chicago nodded vigorously. "Aunt Anna brought lots of delicious food early this morning, and Brady is here too!"
