Chapter 969
Jessie had just found her spot. It stomped a few times until it was back to its preferred comfort level. Just as it was about to lie down comfortably, Jessie saw Chicago and Darwin heading out. Jessie's ears perked up immediately, and it quickly got up and followed them.
Recently, the Walker family had quite a few guests. To keep things quiet, Darwin rarely went to the front. Fortunately, the Walker family estate was large enough.
There was a small golf course just a five-minute walk from their courtyard. Because there were few people, Chicago and Charles had been accompanying Darwin here every morning for a stroll and some leg exercises. However, today was different. There were actually a few people playing golf.
"Dad, do you mind?" Chicago looked at Darwin.
Darwin shook his head. "It's fine. We just won't go over there."
"Okay!" Chicago nodded obediently.
She patted Jessie's head. "Jessie, there are strangers over there. Some people might be afraid of dogs, and we don't want to frighten them."
Jessie grunted twice and glanced at Darwin. When Darwin looked back at it, Jessie quickly looked away.
Darwin took a couple of steps towards it. "Jessie, did you do something naughty? Why do you look so guilty all of a sudden?"
"Yeah." Chicago also felt that Jessie was acting strange. Ever since Darwin returned from his disappearance, Jessie had been very attached to him, spending more time with him than with her. But today, while Darwin was working in his room, Jessie was lying outside by itself.
"Did Jessie steal Charlotte's corn sausage again?" Chicago lifted Jessie's drooping ears and asked softly.
Jessie got anxious. She started whining.
"Probably." Darwin sighed. "Jessie, that's too salty. Dogs can't eat that."
Jessie whimpered again, lowering her head in a very pitiful manner.
"Alright, we'll let it go this time. No more talking about the dog!" Chicago rarely saw Jessie so upset.
Ever since she was rescued from the brink of death, Jessie had been fearless and arrogant at home. It could even overpower Stuart!
This was the first time Jessie looked so pitiful. Despite Chicago's words, Jessie still hung its head.
Chicago thought, 'It best to let him cool off.'
After all, getting caught stealing food was quite a blow to one's pride, so she decided not to mention it and continued chatting with her dad.
Darwin listened attentively to Chicago, but out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly noticed the boy who was almost hit by a bicycle, now standing with the people playing golf.
It seemed the boy noticed his gaze and waved at him. Darwin nodded politely. Then he looked away.
"Dad, what are you looking at?" Chicago followed Darwin's gaze.
"Nothing." Darwin shook his head gently.
The next second, he suddenly heard the boy exclaim, "Watch out!"
Darwin immediately looked in that direction and saw a ball flying towards them.
Almost instinctively, he pushed Chicago to the side to protect her.
Unfortunately, the path they were walking on was next to a slope.
Chicago worried that Darwin might fall because of his leg, so she chose to walk on the slope side.
