Chapter 337 The Whole World Knows You're a Liar
"This is between him and me. It has nothing to do with you..."
Before Lilian could finish, Fiona cut her off impatiently. "I'm his wife. Anything that concerns him is my business. Are you going to talk, or do you want more trouble?"
"Just give me the money and let me go!"
Lilian felt like she was going insane. Sensing Fiona's changing mood, she quickly made her demand.
Fiona's lips twisted in a half-smile. "There’s no money, but you're free to go."
Lilian looked at Darwin, who ignored her.
"And let me make something clear," Fiona's contempt was evident as she regarded Lilian, "Knowing you, I'm sure you won't let this go. ‘Fair and square,' those were your words. If you accept this deal, we're done once you step out of Klein Mansion. But if you cause trouble after today, and I catch you, I'll make your life a living nightmare. Don't come crying to me then, claiming you're Darwin's lifesaver. Any debt he owed you is repaid as of today."
Lilian's breathing was heavy, and her hand subconsciously rested on her abdomen. She hadn’t been eating or sleeping well recently, and though there was no sign of anything wrong, she was worried for her child. Her main priority now was to escape.
"So, you think you've won, Chelsea?" Lilian fixed her gaze on her. "You're just a replacement for Fiona. If someone more like her comes along, Darwin will treat you just like he treated me!"
As she spoke, she snatched up the cell phone from the bed. Giving Fiona and Darwin a final, deep look, filled with a dread that Fiona might change her mind, she dashed for the door.
Passing through the living room, she glanced at Anniston's urn and strode to the front door. The guards there all turned their eyes on her, but unlike before, they only looked on with disgust and made no move to stop her.
Lilian stepped out cautiously. The guards made no attempt to hinder her escape.
She bolted, flagged down a car by the road, and, with the desperation of a woman fleeing for her life, hopped in and sped off.
Fiona watched from her window with icy detachment.
After Lilian was gone, she turned to face Darwin's intense stare.
"Aren't you furious with her? Why..." Darwin rasped.
Unperturbed, Fiona responded, "Like I said before, Lilian won't let this go so easily. But the debt I owed her ended today. If she causes more trouble, I won't hesitate to strike her down. I'll show no mercy, no matter what Mr. Solomon comes up with."
With that final word, Fiona made no attempt to stay for Darwin's response. She walked towards the door.
When she reached the ground floor, several of her bodyguards approached her. "Chelsea, why did you let that woman go?"
"What's the rush? We'll have plenty of chances to deal with her." Fiona glanced at Anniston's urn. "When Mr. Darwin comes down, remind him to handle the ashes."
"Yes, ma'am."
Fiona disappeared after leaving Klein Mansion.
Darwin followed moments later, descending at a more leisurely pace.
"We're all heading out, Mr. Darwin. Don't forget to take care of this urn," said a bodyguard who, despite his forced politeness, clearly had little respect for Darwin.
Once the bodyguard left, Darwin stood solemnly before Anniston's ashes for a moment before making a call.
It was answered instantly.
"Darwin... I haven't had the chance to congratulate you. Congratulations on your marriage," chuckled the voice on the line.
"Handle her funeral. The urn's still at Klein Mansion. Come and get it," Darwin said indifferently before hanging up.
When he stepped outside Klein Mansion, the sun was blazing. Summer had arrived.
The warmth seemed to chase away the chill that had clung to him. He cast a final glance back at the grand Klein Mansion. Every falsehood—his parents, his first love, each deception from his tumultuous life—had been cleared away with the day.
And the future...
He thought about Fiona, of Charles, and Chicago. That was where his real love and family were, waiting in the sunshine.
*
It was past ten o'clock.
The official Solomon Corporation website and its associated social media platforms released a statement simultaneously. In the statement, the company addressed allegations against Lilian, largely admitting to her egregious conduct and the substantial compensation paid to the victims. It included an earnest apology and highlighted that Lilian had been terminated and no longer held any position at the Solomon Corporation.
Next, the statement formally addressed the rumor-fueled affair between Darwin and Lilian, which had supposedly lasted for over five years. It bluntly dismissed the allegations as false, fabricated for personal publicity, and reiterated that the Solomon Corporation had repeatedly denied these rumors.
The internet exploded in reaction.
One user wrote, "Translating the statement: Darwin was duped into supporting Lilian, but now that he's been clued into the truth, he's dropped her like a hot potato!"
"Mr. Solomon's cold statement shows that he’s been deeply hurt. Who wouldn't feel compelled to comment on that? Hahaha!"
"Waiting on Lilian's response now!"
"Will she even respond? I bet she's already looking for a hole to crawl into. Her reputation’s been completely trashed."
Lilian got home.
After a brisk and refreshing shower, she settled onto the sofa and finally had a chance to check the internet.
But the moment she went online, she went numb.
Her inbox was overflowing with hateful messages, and her name hung high on the trending list—second only to Solomon's statement.
Both trending topics were a devastating blow.
She didn’t usually pay attention to her 99+ unread messages on WhatsApp. After all, she was the Vice President of Solomon. It was normal for her to be contacted frequently.
But after seeing the trending topics, she hastily opened WhatsApp.
Just as she did, a new message popped up.
"Don't you play dead, Lilian! You promised to secure the next quarter's supply contract for Solomon Corporation for me! I spent over a million on bags and a whole set of couture jewelry for you! Either you pay me back now, or I'll go public with your extortion and file a police report!"
Scanning further down, she read:
"You shameless bitch. I've been waiting for the day you get what you deserve. Karma’s coming to get you now that Darwin has dumped you and you've lost his protection!"
"Miss Robbins, our company has decided to back out of the project we discussed last time. As for the 20% advance we gave you, please let me know when you can return it to my account. Thanks."
"Lilian, how could you deceive Darwin like that? You might have left him when he was down and out and aimed for someone higher, but didn't you say he always treated you like his true love? Just be honest with him. I bet he'd still accept you. But look at the mess you've made now—everyone in the world knows you're a liar." "
