Chapter 989

Though Stella was somewhat clumsy, her fingers were soft and a bit cold. When she pinched Mason's face, it felt just like the touch of a mother he had imagined.

Stella shook her head. "I understand. You kids have your own emotions, too. I get it!"

She also looked ahead. Stella and Mason were silent for a few seconds.

Stella couldn't help but say, "The birds in your temple are so fat, I'm really worried about their wings. How can they even fly?"

"Mrs. Beaumont." A gentle voice came from behind Stella.

Stella and Mason, in a surprisingly synchronized manner, stuffed the remaining half of their popsicles into their mouths and quickly pulled out the sticks. Then they stood up in unison and turned around.

Alexander and Liam stood on the steps, one looking helpless and the other serious.

Stella fidgeted with her fingers and mumbled, "It's hot. Right, Mason?"

"Liam, I know I was wrong. I volunteer to take the punishment," Mason said, lowering his head and preparing to be punished.

"It's okay." Alexander extended his hand to Stella.

Stella walked towards him. "Liam, it's really not Mason's fault. Such a young child, how could he resist the temptation of a popsicle?"

Liam and Alexander had actually been there for a while. Initially, Liam wanted to come up and scold Mason, but seeing Mason so happy, he couldn't bring himself to do it.

Stella continued to defend Mason, fearing that a single popsicle would cause more trouble for him.

"No need to say more," Liam interrupted Stella.

Stella instinctively looked at Alexander. Alexander gently shook his head and gave her a reassuring look.

Liam left soon.

Stella looked at Alexander. "What does Liam ask you for?? Did Father Ben agree to see you?"

"It wasn't Liam looking for me; we just ran into each other." Alexander paused and said, "Father Ben is still napping and doesn't know I'm here."

Stella checked the time. It was almost four o'clock in the afternoon, and was Father Ben still napping? But considering his poor health, she understood.

She looked back at Alexander and noticed the worry in his eyes.

"Are you worried about Father Ben's health?" Stella asked gently, "Why don't we talk to Liam? If Father Ben won't see you, you could check on him while he's asleep."

"I just talked to Liam," Alexander replied. "He said we need to ask Father Ben first."

"Why can't he think outside the box? Can't he tell what's important and what's not?" Stella looked in the direction Liam had left.

Alexander took her hand. Having just finished the popsicle, Stella's hand was a bit cold.

Alexander instinctively tightened his grip. "It's actually a good sign that he didn't let me see him right away. It means the master's condition is still stable."

No one expected Alexander's words to be validated.

Late at night, just as Alexander was about to sleep, Liam rushed in. "Father Alexander, come with me quickly!"

Alexander's heart sank. He hastily put on mismatched slippers, grabbed his bag, and followed Liam, running towards Father Ben's room.

Knowing Father Ben's poor health, Alexander had brought his acupuncture tools with him on this visit, hoping to use them if Father Ben agreed to see him.

Father Ben's room had mostly stayed the same since Alexander had last been there. Before entering, Alexander even noticed the small stool he used to sit on while reading as a child.

"Father Alexander, please take a look. Father Ben hasn't woken up!" Liam was visibly anxious with red eyes.

Alexander walked to the bedside.
