Chapter 483 A Favor For A Favor

Fiona immediately dialed out a new call and handed the phone to Daren. “Tell him the local big shot's name and your sister's name.”

Daren quickly took the phone, his gaunt hands trembling noticeably.

"Hello, the man who took my sister is Charlie Morgan, and her name is Bettie Baker. Please, you have to save her. Thank you."

Daren then returned the phone to Fiona.

"Get on it fast. I'll await your response," Fiona calmly told the person on the other end.

She ended the call and turned to Daren.

"Have you had lunch yet?" she asked.

Daren shook his head.

Truth be told, it wasn't just lunch he’d missed.

He'd hardly eaten anything in almost two days.

Shortly thereafter, Daren sat across from Fiona, devouring the food voraciously.

He was starved.

Once he felt slightly full, a hint of embarrassment washed over him.

"Madam, aren't you going to ask me about the issue with Steven?" he asked quietly, clearly ashamed.

This woman, possessing a beauty surpassing that of any Hollywood star, carried herself without the haughtiness often associated with the affluent. She had spoken to him with genuine kindness, inquiring about his dietary preferences and allergies.

"Do you want to tell me?" Fiona inquired.

Daren paused a moment before saying, "You can rest assured, I'm nothing like that scumbag. If you save my sister, you'll be my savior, and I won't extort your wealth."

Fiona smiled. "You seem to know him quite well."

"Has he tried to extort you?" Daren looked up at Fiona.

She nodded, then chuckled. "He initially wanted half of mine and my husband's net worth, then changed his tune to fifty million."

"Fifty million?" Daren exclaimed in shock, then got angry. "That's just like him, never satisfied!"

"I could give you that fifty million," Fiona continued.

Daren immediately refused, "My mother always said, 'Don't take what you haven't earned.' You help me save my sister, and I help you to save your kid; we're even."

"Your mother raised you well," Fiona said sincerely.

Daren fiddled with his rice.

The mention of his mother seemed to soften his entire being.

"Of course, my mom was the first in our town to go to college, if it weren't for my sister and me..." Daren's voice trailed off as he lifted the back of his hand to wipe his eyes.

He fell silent.

Bowing his head, he continued to eat with big bites.

Just as he finished, Fiona's cell phone rang.

It was a video call.

She handed the phone straight to Daren.

Daren paused, surprised.

It had been just over an hour since he ended the call.

He immediately took the phone and tapped to answer.

The screen wobbled for a moment.

Then his sister's bruised face appeared.

Seeing her brother on the screen, she burst into loud sobs, "Daren!"

"Bettie, how are you? What happened to your face? Did someone hit you?" Daren started crying too. "Are you safe now? Did someone come to rescue you?"

Bettie nodded repeatedly.

"Two ladies, they said they were your friends, they just got me out," Bettie answered through tears, "Where are you, Daren, and where is mom? She must be worried sick. She's ill too..."

"Mom's fine, she's at home. You head back quick, I'm dealing with something outside, I'll be home as soon as I'm done!" Daren wiped away his tears and cracked a smile to comfort his sister, "Don't worry, Zack Strong won't dare to bother you anymore!"

"Daren, how did you get me out? Did you borrow money? Where'd you get the cash? You didn't sell yourself to work on a fishing trawler, did you?"

The siblings had a way with words.

Their questions tumbled out non-stop.

It was quite endearing.

"No, none of that trawler stuff, it was all thanks to a kind-hearted boss... Just get home safe, and I'll tell you everything when I'm back," Daren hurriedly replied.

"Okay, make sure you come back safe!"

After ending the video call, Daren felt a huge weight lift from his heart.

He handed the phone back to Fiona with both hands. "Madam, thank you. I'll follow your lead now."

Fiona took the phone back.

"Are you sure you don't have any other requests?" she inquired.

Daren shook his head firmly. "A fair exchange. I've got no complaints."

"What illness does your mom have?" Fiona queried.

Daren looked down somberly. "A heart condition, the doctors say it can be eased, but there's no cure."

"How old are you?" asked Fiona.

"Seventeen, but I'll be eighteen next month!"

"Still a minor then. Look, I'll have someone bring your sister and mom here. For one thing, your donation requires a parent's signature, and for another, I know a world-class heart specialist who could take a look at your mom."

"Really? Are they that good?" Daren's eyes brightened instantly.

Fiona nodded affirmatively. "World-class."

"How much will that cost?" Daren asked cautiously.

Following his mother's abrupt illness and subsequent hospitalization, they incurred substantial medical expenses, burdening them with a mountain of debt.

Yet, to him and his sister, their mother's well-being eclipsed their own lives in significance. If there existed even a glimmer of hope for her recovery, he would willingly put his life on the line to pursue it.

"You can definitely afford it," Fiona said with a gentle smile. "Shall I make the arrangements for them to come over?"

"If you can save my mother, I am willing to be at your service for the rest of my life to repay you," Daren said, choking up.

“Call your family, have a word with your mom, to avoid startling her when my people arrive.”

"Okay!"

It was a close call.

However, the bone marrow arrangement was finally set.

Fiona also called Darwin.

She briefed him on the situation here.

“I have a property near the hospital, we can settle them there,” Darwin said.

"Great. There's nothing left for me to do here, I’ll head back now."
"Okay, I’ll wait for you."

Fiona hung up the phone.

As Daren returned, his countenance lit up with a radiant smile. "I've spoken to my mom"

"Good, this gentleman here will take you to your new place soon. Let him know if you need anything," Fiona said, pointing to Calvin with a gentle tone.

“Sure!”

"Let's go together."

Daren followed behind Fiona.

The gloominess he had when they first met had lifted, and he was finally showing some youthful spirit.

However, the sunshine didn’t last long.

“Daren!”

Downstairs, Daren stood to the side, watching as Fiona got into her car.

Steven appeared out of nowhere, grabbing Daren by the collar.

"What are you doing?" Daren shoved Steven.

"Bonnie just called me! You had someone take your sister away? Now he's demanding money from me!" Steven’s eyes were bloodshot. "They gave you a lot of money, right? Could you have this much money without me?"
Calvin was taken aback.

Then he stepped forward and landed a kick to Steven’s waist.
