Chapter 1471

Charlotte was the oldest of all the kids.

She'd be turning thirty after the New Year.

Her transformation was the most remarkable among all the children at Emerald Pool.

From a young, emotionally detached assassin when she first arrived, she had grown into a renowned entomologist, becoming calm and gentle.

Janna often said that among all the children, only Charlotte, who had no blood relation to the family, grew up to resemble Fiona the most.

Back then, Charlotte had planned to start middle school the following year.

But for some reason, after the summer break, she ditched that idea.

However, she still skipped a grade and went to middle school.

She completed the three years normally and took the high school entrance exam.

That year, Charles also took the high school entrance exam with Charlotte.

Originally, Fiona had planned for them to attend high school abroad.

But both Charles and Charlotte refused.

They didn't want to leave Chicago alone in the country.

After finishing high school, Charlotte and Charles went to two different universities overseas.

Initially, they would come back to Armie every winter and summer break.

But in the year before graduation, Charlotte suddenly stopped coming back.

She started following her mentor, traveling through jungles and rainforests around the world.

She faced several life-threatening dangers.

Christopher worried a lot because of this.

In the past three or four years, Charlotte's visits became increasingly rare, and Christopher would go see her during his vacations.

This year, she couldn't make it back for Charles and Chicago's birthdays either.

After Melissa excitedly hugged her sisters, Janna reached out to Charlotte: "Why are you so thin?"

Charlotte walked over, squatted down, and handed her hand to Janna. Janna held her hand and noticed the bandage hidden under her sleeve. "Are you hurt?"

"I accidentally fell from a tree," Charlotte smiled, "It's just a scratch, nothing serious. Don't worry, today is your birthday, you should be happy."

Saying this, Charlotte took out a small box from her pocket.

When she opened it, inside was a firefly-shaped gemstone ring, clearly an antique.

"Last month, I saw this in an antique shop in an alley while attending an academic conference. I remembered you missed the fireflies from your childhood, the last time we met, so I bought it."

"Sweetheart." Janna touched Charlotte's cheek, hesitating to say something.

But in the end, she didn't say it.

"My gift will arrive a bit later, but I have something else for today!" Chicago came over, leaned in, and kissed Janna on the cheek.

Janna smiled.

"You little rascal!" Janna looked at Chicago with loving eyes, touching her face and her brows, suddenly feeling a bit sad, "Time flies so fast, it feels like just yesterday you were a baby in my arms, and now you've grown up."

"Grandma Rhoads, I'll always be your baby," Chicago said, feeling a bit guilty, "I've been so busy with the tour that I haven't been able to visit you. Once the tour is over, I'll spend a lot of time with you!"

"Alright." Janna held back her tears, "Okay, you three haven't seen each other in a while. Go! Put on your best outfits and show my guests how beautiful you are!"

"Mission accepted!"

Melissa stood up straight, then hooked her arms around her sisters, "I've missed you both so much, I have so much to tell you! Tonight, you have to sleep with me!"

"You're on Facebook every day, posting hundreds of updates, and you still have more to say?" Chicago asked teasingly.

Melissa laughed.

Charlotte didn't say much but smiled softly.

Chicago looked at her.

She had always been captivated by Charlotte's beauty since she was a child.

And she still was.
