Chapter 1176
In a Bay City hotel, the wind and rain sneaked through a small window gap. A gust blew an investigation report off the table, splashing raindrops on it. The name "Aiden Solomon" got all smudged.
Someone picked up the report with a knuckled hand. His eyes caught a line: "Armie, heir to the Solomon Group, brutally murdered his girlfriend. The 23-year-old woman had her organs and corneas removed, dying tragically."
Darwin hadn't slept this well in ages. When he woke up, dawn was breaking. He felt his hand being held and saw Fiona asleep beside him, gripping his hand tightly. She woke up as he moved.
"Are you awake? Is it morning?" she asked, glancing at the window where faint light peeked through.
"Did you sleep like this all night?" Darwin asked, concerned.
"I fell asleep without realizing it," Fiona said, getting up. Darwin quickly pulled her into his arms.
"Next time, sleep beside me and still hold my hand," he said seriously. Fiona smiled and nuzzled his neck. "Got it."
"It's still early. You should sleep a bit more," Darwin suggested, feeling guilty for her worry.
"I'll sleep for another half hour," Fiona agreed.
"Okay, I'll stay with you," Darwin said, kissing her forehead. Fiona rested with her eyes closed but couldn't sleep. She eventually got up to wash and change.
Last night, she told Stuart not to wait for them in the morning. The kids had breakfast and went to school directly. When Fiona and Darwin went downstairs, the kids were already gone. Chicago had left a sketch of Daddy Pig and Mommy Pig sleeping in.
"Is our daughter mocking us?" Fiona laughed, handing the drawing to Darwin. He looked at it and carefully put it away, cherishing it.
Fiona thought about Darwin. Despite any mental illness from Aiden, Darwin was different. Aiden had a tough life with the strict mother and a tragic loss, with no one to save him. But Darwin had his family—her and the kids.
"Am I good-looking?" Darwin teased, noticing Fiona staring at him.
"Of course. If you weren't, would I still marry you?" Fiona teased back, then felt awkward. "What I mean is..."
"Honey," Darwin said, sensing her mood change. He held her hand. "It's okay. You don't need to be so cautious when talking to me."
Fiona's nose tingled, then she smiled and nodded. "It's about time. Shall we head to Dr. Hubert's?"
