Chapter 14
Ten minutes later, Tony hung up the phone then looked at the people surrounding him.
"Was she lying?" Ford asked.
She had put a lot of effort into the R&K project, and the only person she had been in contact with was the vice president. Fiona was nothing more than a decoration kept by the CEO. How could she have access to Newton, who rarely appeared in public?
Tony shook his head in confusion. "No... R&K did accept our proposal."
There was a moment of silence around. Then, the group screamed with laughter. They were ecstatic!
"That's not right. Didn't we hear that Fiona conspired with outsiders and tampered with our data? Why would she help us get the contract back?" Miss Ford interrupted the crowd's excitement.
"Why else? I heard Mr. Darwin was going to send her to prison, and she got scared!" Tony's assistant, Donald, sneered. "Now that she's been dumped by Mr. Darwin and lost her support, of course, she won't dare to let anything happen to our contract!"
“It seems that's the case..." Miss Ford nodded.
"Boss, what do we do now?" Donald looked at Tony, "She's still waiting in the conference room."
The excitement was evident on Tony's face as if a big deal had come and gone.
His face was beaming with smiles.
“She must want me to apologize,” Tony said cheerfully.
"That's not possible! The data mess was her doing!" Donald said in a low voice.
“Exactly!” Miss Ford muttered as well.
The others echoed. Sales Team 1 was the most united and protective team. They couldn't let anyone bully their boss so the group followed Tony into the conference room.
"Have you checked it with them?" Fiona looked at her phone without looking up.
Tony nodded, “Ms. Fiona, you’ve made up for your mistake.”
Fiona's finger paused on her screen for a moment, and she glanced at Tony. "What mistake did I make?"
“Don’t try to escape from the data issue!” Donald shouted.
The rest chimed in with loud voices too!
Fiona smiled instead of getting angry. ‘You guys are really united, huh?”
"All of us in Team 1 are on the same page!" Miss Ford replied proudly, with arms crossed.
"Alright." Fiona tapped the table, "Take a seat, everyone. I made some minor adjustments to the plan..."
“Who gave you permission to change our plan?” Miss Ford was getting anxious. This plan was a result of their team's efforts, especially her own hard work for half a year, but Fiona just changed it at will?
"What should we do then? Mr. Newton was moved by the modified plan." Fiona looked at her, speaking softly, but her aura was intimidating.
Miss Ford wanted to say something but Fiona beat her to it. "Everyone, I appreciate your unity, but this is still a company, and everything must be done in the company's best interests." Fiona glanced at everyone, "Are you all going to confront me until three o'clock this afternoon?"
The rest didn’t dare to say anything else and all sat down.
Fiona didn't waste any time. She opened the PowerPoint slides and began explaining the parts of the plan that had been modified.
Sales Team 1 was originally unwilling to listen to her because they thought what could a woman who was only around to accompany Darwin do compared to them? They were all outstanding graduates from top universities. However, after a while, these same proud students straightened up and gradually became serious. If they encountered any unclear parts, they would raise their hands and ask Fiona.
Midway, the sandwiches and coffees that Fiona had ordered in advance were delivered but they didn't get any break time and continued with the meeting while eating. At one o’clock, the meeting ended.
"It's almost time. Mr. Tony, get ready to go." Fiona packed up her laptop and stood up.
Suddenly, Donald blurted out a question, "You... are also going?"
"Of course," Fiona looked at him.
She was very beautiful, especially her eyes. But at this moment, Donald felt a chill down his spine from her gaze.
"Boss, is it inappropriate for her to go? After all, she..."
"The problem with the data lies within your team," Fiona calmly interrupted him, "I cannot just let your people bring the proposal to R&K."
She was so straightforward that it stunned everyone in Sales Team 1.
“You’re talking nonsense!” Donald scolded.
It was Tony who had a different reaction. After listening to Fiona's explanation of the proposal, he was greatly impressed of Fiona. Before, when he interacted with her, he never thought she was that meticulous in her work. But deep down, he had only seen her as someone who only achieved her current position by relying on the CEO.
However, the modifications she made to the proposal, although minor, undeniably made the entire plan more satisfying to the client and even closer to perfection.
“Since Ms. Fiona convinced Mr. Nelson about the contract, there is no reason not to bring Ms. Fiona when signing the contract,” Tony spoke up.
"Boss, do you also believe her? Do we have a mole in our team?" Miss Ford asked in surprise.
Fiona didn’t want to get involved in their internal arguments. “Meet you at the parking lot fifteen minutes from now."
Fiona picked up her laptop and left without looking back, looking as cool as ever. Without an office, Fiona had nowhere else to go. She went downstairs directly to the convenience store in the company building and bought a bottle of water.
She took out a pillbox. Inside were neatly divided pills, including folic acid, prenatal vitamins, and calcium tablets. She tossed them in her mouth and swallowed them with water. Recently, her appetite had been poor. The sandwich for lunch, which she usually loved, made her nauseous just from smelling the salmon inside, and she couldn't bring herself to take a bite.
"Ms. Fiona?"
Fiona turned around and saw Jackie, an assistant, as well as several executives from the CEO’s office standing behind her.
She just put away the pillbox and smiled.
“Are you feeling sick? Why are you taking medicine?” Jackie asked.
"I have a bit of anemia. The doctor prescribed some vitamins and iron supplements for me," Fiona calmly replied, "What brings you here?"
"Forget about it. That new secretary can't do anything right. She created a mess for us and we were so busy that we only now had time to come downstairs to eat," a girl said, extremely frustrated.
"She's new. She will improve over time," Fiona comforted her.
"Forget about her. Such bad luck that we need to work with her. Ms. Fiona, I heard you won back a project for our department?" The girl's eyes sparkled.
Fiona nodded, "I'm about to go and sign the contract with R&K."
"You’re indeed the best, Ms. Fiona!" Jackie gave a thumbs-up.
After exchanging a few more words, Fiona left.
Before leaving the convenience store, she quickly estimated the price of the items in those people's hands and handed the cashier three hundred bills and paid for them. The people from the CEO's office had always been good to her, and she felt somewhat guilty for resigning because of her personal relationship with Darwin this time as it had caused them a lot of trouble.
When Jackie wanted to pay for their items, she learned that Fiona had already paid for it. She couldn't help but cry, reminiscing about Fiona. They all made their way back to the office, still engaged in conversation about her.
Darwin came out of his office just in time to hear someone say, "I remember Ms. Fiona can't stand taking bitter food. She must not be feeling so well since she’s taking all those medicines! No, I should buy her some candy!"
At this moment, Jackie saw Darwin and immediately stood up straight, saying, "Mr. Darwin."
The others also hastily stood up to greet him.
