Chapter 564 The Only Child in the Family
"What's all the commotion?" Mike demanded, his presence fierce.
He had just witnessed Fiona chewing out Chicago. Chicago and Charles were like family to all the bodyguards; they had watched them grow up from birth, and they doted on them deeply. Now, with Charles being picked on and Chicago getting scolded for fighting back, Mike's heart ached.
The Sinclair family was intimidated by Mike's assertiveness.
"Who do you think you are?" Dominic's grandmother demanded, her neck stiff with defiance. "You're just a young man, bullying an old lady like me. You should be ashamed!"
She tried to put a figurative hat on Mike with her accusation.
He had once been a man who exchanged his services for money, someone who had dealt with all kinds of unreasonable people and didn't take flak from anyone.
"Dominic has been bullying kids at school, and you as his family are yelling about it. Why should I feel ashamed?" Mike retorted.
"Mike."
Fiona stepped out, calling his name coolly.
Mike toned down his assertiveness and silently stepped back, standing behind Fiona.
The Sinclair family brought several women with them including Dominic's mother, grandmother, step-grandmother, aunt, and great-aunt. They all looked at Fiona, exchanging glances.
"She looks a bit familiar," the aunt and great-aunt murmured to each other.
"She's quite pretty. Probably a Cinderella story, a small-time actress who married rich," one speculated
"No wonder she raised such a vicious brat like Chicago!" Dominic's grandmother suddenly shouted loudly.
"Are you here to solve the problem or to argue?" Fiona asked coldly.
Dominic's mom looked furious. "Your daughter made my son bleed from the nose and caused him severe psychological trauma. You tell me, how should we handle this?"
"What do you want to do about it?" Fiona countered.
"Pay up, and besides paying up, your two little brats need to kneel and apologize to my nephew," Dominic's aunt demanded, arms crossed.
Fiona just laughed in response.
"Did you even watch the surveillance from the classroom?" Fiona inquired.
Without hesitation, a member of the Sinclair family blurted out, "What about it? Dominic just tossed a chalk eraser that accidentally hit your Charles. Didn’t even break the skin. Meanwhile, Dominic got a bloody nose from the scuffle!"
"Who knows if there will be any long-term effects! He's the only child in our family. If anything happens to him, we'll take you to the mat!"
"The only child in the family?" Fiona looked surprised. "On that note, I’d suggest that the men of the Sinclair family might want to visit a doctor. It seems like fertility might be a bit of an issue on your end."
Mike almost burst into laughter at that remark.
The Sinclair family listened in stunned silence, unable to process what they had just heard. As realization sank in, they became flushed with embarrassment and anger.
"You..." Dominic's grandmother pointed at Fiona, speechless.
She raised her hand to slap Fiona.
"What are you doing?" Mike asked, his expression fierce as he pointed at the old woman.
Her hand froze mid-air, and her lips began to tremble. "I won't waste my words with you. Call that little rascal out to apologize to my grandson, bow his head, and let's settle this with money."
"Where do you see any rascals here besides yourselves?" Fiona asked with a sarcastic twist of her mouth. "As for money, yes, money should be turned over, but it's you who should be paying."
"Dominic got hit, and you expect us to pay?" Dominic's mother exclaimed in disbelief. "Haven't you ever seen money before? Are you out of your mind with greed?"
The Sinclair family was well-known locally for their business in international trade. They had rubbed elbows with many high-ranking officials and celebrities and assumed Fiona was just a minor star trying to climb the social ladder. They had never seen her in their social circles and figured she had married into a run-of-the-mill family. They couldn't have imagined that Fiona might belong to the elite at the pinnacle of the pyramid. They dismissed her as a pauper.
"Because of your child's bullying, my son has suffered severe psychological stress. You definitely owe compensation," Fiona declared confidently. "As for my daughter, her hand is insured for millions of dollars by the insurance company. We don’t even know yet if there is any unseen damage, and psychologically she has been greatly affected. Shouldn't you compensate for these things?"
Dominic's grandmother scoffed. "Lying without even blushing, what multimillion-dollar insurance are you talking about? Have you ever seen what millions look like?"
"When you receive the lawyer's letter and the court documents, you'll see if I was lying or not," Fiona paused.
"You're suing us?" Dominic's aunt was shocked. "Are you illiterate? It was Chicago who committed the assault, making Dominic's nose bleed. Instead of you apologizing and paying us, you want us to pay you? Have you lost your mind wanting money that bad?"
"We should discuss this matter with our lawyers," a voice came to interject.
At that moment, Darwin's legal team arrived fashionably late. The Sinclair family turned around in confusion, not yet having the chance to ask who they were when one of them handed out his business card. "I'm Antony, legal advisor for Solomon Investments."
"Solomon?" Dominic's aunt gasped.
Recently, her husband had been vying for a contract with a subsidiary of Solomon Investments. Just last night, they were discussing how fierce the competition was. However, securing this contract meant they wouldn't have to worry about money for the next three years and could even move into a detached mansion.
"Yes," Antony said with a smile, nodding his head. "I will be taking over on behalf of my client, Mr. Darwin and Ms. Chelsea, to discuss the compensation details with all of you."
"Who?" Dominic's aunt asked in shock.
"Mr. Darwin and..." Antony gestured toward Fiona. "Ms. Chelsea."
"You're lying. Darwin and Chelsea? You think just because you've dropped a couple of old money names, you can intimidate us?" Dominic's mother asked with a mocking expression.
If kids from families like Darwin and Chelsea's were at this school, they would have known about it.
At that moment, the door swung open once more.
A tall man with an air of aggression stepped out.
"What's going on here? You can’t sort out a simple issue, letting all this riff-raff come disturb us, bothering Fiona, do you all not want to work anymore?" Darwin scanned the crowd outside.
"Mr. Darwin?"
A few of them, who didn't follow the gossip media closely, might be less familiar with Fiona.
However, Darwin's face was well-known to them.
His range of subsidiary companies under the Solomon name were a mouthwatering target for anyone wanting to get a bite of the success.
They often monitored Solomon's activities and naturally caught sight of Darwin in the financial news now and then.
The recent buzz about the influential Rhoads family heir marrying Darwin was quite sensational.
However, the pictures of Fiona in the news were of a professional businesswoman—short hair, suit, an aura of authority visible to the naked eye.
She appeared entirely different from the casually-dressed, seemingly pampered beauty before them now.
They only found her vaguely familiar but had not realized that she was Fiona.
"Leave it to them; let's go home," Darwin said, without a second glance at the others. He took Fiona's hand and shifted his demeanor completely, coaxing her gently.
