Chapter 64 Inappropriate

Hathaway just stood there, frozen.

She and Darwin had this deal, right? In public, they were supposed to act all lovey-dovey and respectful.

But what the heck was he on about now?

"Jerk!" Anniston was so mad, that she felt like her chest was gonna explode.

"Anniston." Some woman, who Hathaway didn't recognize, looked at Anniston all worried.

Anniston frowned and waved at the bodyguards.

"Hathaway, can you, like, go inside for a bit? I'm feeling kinda crappy and need to chill in the lounge," she said, sounding all weak.

Hathaway nodded and headed inside.

Anniston grabbed the woman and dragged her to the lounge next door.

She slammed the door shut.

Then, wham! Anniston slapped the woman. "Why can't you just act natural? No one would've suspected a thing if you hadn't messed up!"

The woman clutched her cheek, her eyes getting all teary.

"How is Fiona so damn smart? She even suspected this!" she hissed through gritted teeth.

Anniston hadn't seen that coming either.

Fiona was usually so quiet, didn't seem like the sharpest tool in the shed.

Guess she really underestimated her.

"Let her suspect all she wants. She can't find the surveillance footage, and she won't find those two kids either. Whether she likes it or not, she's gotta take the fall!" Anniston probably hated Fiona's guts; she put all her strength into that slap.

Now, one side of Fiona's face was already puffing up.

Darwin held an ice pack and gently pressed it to her face.

"Don't pick up any of their calls from now on," he said, his voice low.

"Okay." Fiona nodded, not explaining or complaining, just kinda indifferent.

They'd had a huge blowout at noon.

Now, here they were again, dealing with more crap.

Darwin felt this weird, nagging irritation.

"Don't you have anything else to say to me?" he asked.

She used to be the one always trying to talk to him.

Why was she so quiet now? Especially after all this drama.

"What do you want me to say?" Fiona looked at him. "How it feels to be treated like trash, insulted, and called a homewrecker?"

"You..." Darwin accidentally pressed too hard with the ice pack.

Fiona winced in pain.

"Did I hurt you? I'm sorry." Darwin panicked, quickly pulling the ice pack away and gently touching her cheek.

Fiona had never seen this side of Darwin before.

It was kinda weird.

Was she dead that day in New Port? Was this all just a dream?

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Darwin asked, confused.

"Nothing, I was just thinking, did I die that day in New Port and now I'm living in a dream?" Fiona answered honestly.

Darwin's body went stiff.

Then, Fiona cried out in pain.

Darwin grabbed her chin. "Don't talk nonsense!"

Fiona quickly responded, "Okay, let go!"

Darwin let go, looking all sullen, and went back to pressing the ice pack to her face.

They both went quiet again.

After a while, Darwin said, "I found out the next day that you almost died. I was terrified."

Fiona lowered her eyelids, not looking at him or saying a word.

She'd been totally let down after that phone call.

Now Darwin was saying all this stuff.

She felt a bit sour inside, but that was about it.

"Be good. Don't bring up that night again," Darwin paused. "Have some mercy on me."

"Mr. Solomon, cut it out." Fiona couldn't take it anymore.

Darwin, this jerk, what was he playing at now?

That night, he was living it up.

She was hanging by a thread.

What was he begging for mercy for?

"Your recent behavior is so weird, I can't tell if it's because of Ms. Robbins or because..." Fiona looked at Darwin, her eyes dripping with sarcasm. "you've fallen for me?"

Darwin was stunned.

Fiona found it boring.

Darwin might be a jerk, but he was always clear-headed about these things.

Like when he asked her to be a stand-in, he had clearly said, "You're just a stand-in, I like someone else."

He probably said the same thing to Hathaway.

She didn't expect Darwin to lie to make her happy.

"It doesn't matter." Fiona smiled and pushed Darwin.

She wanted to get off the table.

"If I really fell for you, what would you do?" Darwin asked.

Fiona was stunned, looking at him in surprise.

Darwin saw her looking at him and seemed to be encouraged.

He placed his hands on either side of Fiona's body, leaning in close to her. "Answer me, if I love you, would you willingly stay?"

Fiona's body instinctively leaned back.

She turned her head away, not daring to continue looking at Darwin, afraid that she might accidentally reveal something she shouldn't.

"There's no 'if.' You don't love me," Fiona answered coldly.

Darwin wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her back.

He turned her head back. "How do you know I don't love you?"

Fiona laughed.

She didn't dodge anymore, continuing to look at Darwin with full sarcasm. "If you loved me, wouldn't I feel it?"

Darwin's face darkened.

"Hathaway is outside. You really shouldn't be alone with me in such a private space. It's inappropriate." Fiona wanted to leave.

But Darwin kissed her without warning.

The lounge door was half glass. There was also a large window.

Although it faced an empty lawn, people could come by at any time.

Fiona's body was extremely tense.

She tried hard to push Darwin away.

But the size difference between them was too great.

Darwin kissed her and quickly unbuttoned the top three buttons of Fiona's shirt.

Then he released her lips.

Fiona, almost suffocated by the kiss, gasped for air.

But the next second, Darwin buried his head in her neck.

A tingling sensation mixed with pain swept through Fiona's body.

"Are you crazy?" she whispered.

Darwin didn't speak, biting her shoulder in frustration.

"It hurts!" Fiona's voice trembled, not knowing if it was from anger or fear.

Darwin looked up, glanced at the bite mark, and looked at Fiona while panting.

Fiona's beautiful eyes stared at him, slightly out of focus, with an inexplicable allure.

Darwin's anger dissipated a bit as he looked at her.

He lowered his head, pecked her lips, and caressed Fiona's neck, rubbing the red mark he had made. "Ms. Woods, as you said, Hathaway is outside. Isn't what we're doing now even more inappropriate?"
