Chapter 1308

Wyatt saw it all coming.

Lucian still thought Wyatt was under Gideon's thumb.

"Maybe he's hit a wall; he's been blowing up your phone," the assistant said. "He even called me, wondering why you weren't at the office."

"Just ignore him," Wyatt said, heading straight to the car.

What could Lucian possibly want now?

The big issue right now was the ongoing economic investigation.

Lucian's name wasn't on the list, but he was the puppet master behind it all.

After the shareholders' meeting, Wyatt hadn't been back to the office for three days. He'd been out socializing non-stop, meeting all kinds of people.

Honestly, compared to Gideon, whether in Bay City or Crystal Haven, Wyatt's name carried more weight.

The old guard was fading, and the new generation was taking over the big companies.

Among this new crowd, who were the top dogs?

Wyatt was one, and the other was Darwin.

Wyatt was different from Darwin; Darwin relied on strategy and guts.

Wyatt, on the other hand, relied on his social skills.

Over the years, he'd been the go-to guy, quietly making deals happen among the wealthy families.

If two families had beef, Wyatt would get them talking.

As long as there was something in it for both sides, the problem would get sorted out.

Wyatt was always ready to help.

If a rich family had issues, they'd go to Wyatt, and he'd shell out millions without a second thought.

To Lucian, all this was just Wyatt living the high life.

Three days later, Wyatt walked back into Durham Group HQ with a stack of new deals.

During those three days, Wyatt's assistant and the new HR director he brought in made big changes, firing a bunch of people.

Besides the usual layoffs, they offered sweet severance packages.

Some folks got the boot because they messed up big time, and not only were they fired, but the company also kept the right to sue them.

What really ticked people off was that HR recorded the whole firing process on video, to stop anyone from badmouthing Durham Group online later.

When HR fired someone, they had all the evidence ready.

When people left, new hires were needed.

Wyatt hit up top headhunting firms, and even though those three days were crazy busy, the results were solid.

A lot of Lucian's people got canned. His department was practically empty.

As soon as Lucian heard Wyatt was back, he barged into Wyatt's office.

"Wyatt, what the hell are you doing? You take over as chairman, but you don't show up at the office. You're out partying with your friends, and now you're firing employees left and right! Do you want Durham Group to go under faster?" Lucian yelled.

The office door was open, and it seemed like the whole floor could hear him.

"Partying?" Wyatt tapped the stack of new deals on the table. "If cutting new deals for the group is partying, then Uncle Lucian, haven't you been partying too little in the past?"
