Chapter 825 The Obvious Difference Between Love and Indifference

Fiona's words hit Wyatt like a bolt of lightning. For sixteen years, he had countless opportunities to marry Stella, but his hesitations always held him back.

"Do you think I haven't married her because of her past?" Wyatt looked up at Fiona angrily. "“If I really cared about that, I wouldn’t have been involved with her for sixteen years!"

Fiona looked at Wyatt with disappointment. He was indeed a loyal friend, but when it came to matters of love, he was utterly clueless.

"You didn't care because you always had other women around you," Fiona hit the nail on the head. "But with Stella, are you really sure about the men in her life? Are you certain they truly existed?"

Wyatt frowned deeply. "What do you mean?"
"Before I knew Stella, I only heard about her from your friends, who painted her in a bad light. But after I got to know her, I could see the deep and unwavering love in her eyes when she looked at you. I started to doubt those stories. Did she really get involved with all those men?"
"They have photos and videos!" Wyatt admitted that seeing those pictures and videos made him hate her back then.

Fiona wasn’t sure if Stella had done those things or not. She just had a gut feeling that Stella wouldn’t, so she decided not to argue further with Wyatt on this matter.

"Wyatt, no one will wait for you forever, and you can't hold back someone from starting a new life after more than a decade," Fiona paused. "Can't you see how much she likes Alexander?"

Wyatt was stunned again.

"I don't understand. I haven't hurt her like Darwin hurt you. Why can you forgive Darwin but she is so resolute in not forgiving me?" Wyatt held his head in anguish.

Darwin, sitting beside Fiona, fell silent.

"You never loved her as steadfastly and unconditionally as Darwin loved me," Fiona pointed out.

Fiona’s words healed Darwin’s unexpected wounds caused by Wyatt’s accusations.

"I did! I love her, I truly love her!" Wyatt quickly denied it.

Fiona just looked quietly at Wyatt. During the years she acted as a stand-in, there were moments when she, Darwin, Stella and Wyatt crossed paths.

Wyatt just needed to reflect on how he treated Stella in similar situations and how Darwin stood up for her. The answer was clear.

"You said you didn’t care about Stella’s scandals, but did you really not care? Wyatt, you’re such a gentleman, yet you allowed your friends to humiliate Stella. Wasn’t that your way of getting back at her?" Fiona's words were sharp.

Wyatt froze in place.

"I've known Stella for so many years, and I've never seen her as happy as she is now," Fiona continued. "Wyatt, ask yourself, even if you manage to win Stella back, can you ensure she won’t suffer any more? Your parents and elders must hate her even more seeing you like this. You’re so filial. How much more suffering would Stella endure after marrying you? Have you ever thought about that?"

"I can cut ties with my family!" Wyatt blurted out.

Fiona looked at him without responding. Everyone knew that, for Wyatt, that was simply impossible.

"I'm an outsider, I've said what I needed to say from my perspective. What you choose to do next is up to you," Fiona paused. "I'll try to convince Stella to see you one last time before the wedding."

"Really?" Wyatt's eyes lit up.

"I can only promise to try. Go home, gather yourself, and wait for my call."

"Okay!" Wyatt, with red eyes, clung to this last hope.

"But, promise me, regardless of whether you meet her or not, you won't ruin Stella's wedding."

Before meeting Wyatt, Fiona had thoughts about his pride. But after their encounter, she was surprised to find that Wyatt's pride had vanished.

Wyatt remained silent.

Fiona sighed, "You know, Stella values her wedding greatly. It's crucial for her."

"I can give her a better wedding!"

"You can't even get your family to accept her, so what's the point of talking about a better wedding?"

After saying this, she didn't want to argue with Wyatt any longer. She held Darwin's hand tightly, and the couple stood up and left.

Wyatt sat there, covering his face as tears rolled down his cheeks. No one beside him spoke up for Stella except Fiona. Only Fiona would tell him how he had let down Stella's love over the past sixteen years.

Outside the window, the sun was setting. Wyatt stood up in a daze, walked out, and the setting sun cast a long shadow of his lonely figure, making him look like an abandoned stray dog, utterly desolate.

"Are you really going to help Wyatt persuade Stella?" Darwin held Fiona's hand.

Wyatt's words had made him somewhat apprehensive. If Fiona had been as resolute about marrying someone else and rejecting him...

Just the thought made Darwin's heart race.

"Without Wyatt, there would be no Charles and Chicago..." Fiona sighed.

Darwin lowered his gaze, "I'm sorry..."

"It's all in the past." Fiona gently patted his back, "Go and be with the children first. I'll give Stella a call."

"Okay." Darwin kissed Fiona's forehead.

After Darwin left, Fiona found a quiet spot and dialed Stella's number.

Stella answered almost immediately, "Are you okay? Has he done anything to harm you or anyone else?"

Fiona felt a pang of sadness. This was the difference between love and indifference. When Stella loved Wyatt, she only cared about his well-being. But when she didn't love him, she worried about him hurting others.

"Wyatt hasn't really lost his mind," Fiona sounded a bit helpless. "Stella, are you really going to end your sixteen years with him like this?"

Stella fell silent on the other end.

"Can't you at least listen to his confession?" Fiona asked gently. "Tell him your true thoughts, and give a proper end to those sixteen years."

"Fiona, I'm not avoiding him. I just don't know what to say to him," Stella sounded distressed. "Let me think about it, I'll give you an answer tomorrow."

"Okay."

The call ended, and Stella looked at her phone screen, sighing heavily.
