Chapter 1042
Chicago pondered for a moment and then had the answer.
She survived because Jessie and Charlotte risked everything to save her.
If it had been Brady and Declan, Jessie and Charlotte would have stayed by her side to protect her, not to save others.
She vividly remembered the agony of having her breath completely taken away underwater, the pain of water flooding into her body, and the feeling of being on the brink of death.
"They will die," Chicago said and then burst into tears.
Fiona sighed heavily.
"Fiona, what are you doing!" Burl said, heartbroken. "It didn't happen, did it? Aren't you just giving Chicago a psychological shadow?"
Fiona said, "Stop crying for a moment; I haven't finished talking."
Usually, when Chicago cried like this, Fiona would hug her. But today, she didn't move.
Chicago, sobbing, immediately stopped crying, looked at Fiona, and nodded gently.
"Let me ask you again, do you know where you went wrong today?" Fiona asked more sternly.
"I shouldn't have sneaked out. When I saw the riverbank was flooded, I should have taken others back!" Chicago said, still sobbing.
"Those aren't the most serious mistakes. What else?"
"I shouldn't have been fooled by Abigail and led others over."
Regarding this last matter, Chicago was truly heartbroken.
She never expected that someone would pretend to be pregnant to deceive others.
"Then, if you encounter these problems again in the future, do you know how to solve them?" Fiona asked.
"I won't care anymore, never again!" Chicago shook her head immediately.
Seeing this, Fiona finally pulled her arm and gently brought her into her embrace.
Chicago felt even more miserable. Burying her head in Fiona's arms, she cried, "Mommy, I just wanted to make Brady happy and help the pregnant lady. I don't know why it turned out like this."
Burl quietly wiped away his tears.
He thought Chicago was just a six-year-old child. Her mind was so pure, and she was always thinking about making those around her happy.
The one at fault was that crazy woman - Abigail!
Chicago almost died! And she still had to be scolded!
Fiona was truly cruel!
He instinctively looked at Darwin.
He originally wanted Darwin to stop Fiona's cruel behavior.
Darwin looked at Fiona and Chicago, seemingly deep in thought, and no matter how he changed his expression, Darwin didn't notice.
Burl fell silent.
He knew that in this life, he and Darwin would never have any understanding.
"Fiona, it's time for dinner. You must be hungry. Let Darwin talk to Chicago; let's go eat!" Burl said, bracing himself, and nudged Charles with his leg. "Right? Charles!"
"Uncle Burl, you can't be too lenient," Charles said insightfully without looking at Burl. "What applies to you applies here, too."
Burl fell silent.
At this moment, Chicago had been crying in Fiona's arms for a long time.
She let go of her and, still sobbing, looked at Fiona. "Mommy, but I don't know what to do if I encounter such things again. Can you teach me?"
