Chapter 15
Without hesitation, Darwin walked directly toward the elevator. Once Darwin left, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. "Where is Mr. Darwin going without that new secretary, and not taking you either?" someone asked.
Jackie lowered her voice and replied, "He’s going to pick up his fiancée, Ms. Ross."
"His fiancée?"
"Yes." Everyone fell silent.
"Ah, Ms. Fiona really isn't worthy of him," someone murmured. Jackie sternly said, "Amy, stop saying that. If someone with ulterior motives hears you, you'll lose your job!" Amy quickly shut her mouth upon hearing that.
The elevator reached the B1 floor, and outside was Darwin's exclusive parking space.
He got into the car. He rarely drove himself and most of the time, Fiona used this car. There were no traces of her belongings left in the car, just like in his house. She had cleaned them up, but the unique scent that only belonged to her still lingered.
In the beginning, Darwin thought she was wearing perfume, but after a while, he realized that even after taking a shower, she naturally smelled good.
“Was she on medication? What illness did she have that required medication?” Darwin felt irritated by his thoughts.
He was about to start the car when a few people passed by in front of his car. They were Fiona and Tony from the sales department, along with a few others he didn’t recognize.
Quickly, the people outside noticed Darwin in the car, and they all panicked. Only Fiona glanced over coldly and gave him a slight nod. Compared to a few days ago, she was even more indifferent toward him.
Darwin was inexplicably reminded of Wyatt mentioning Fiona's accusation of assault against him. It felt like there was something stuck in his chest, and it bothered him.
He waved with a cold face, indicating the people outside to leave. Tony and the others quickly moved aside, then Darwin started the car and drove away. However, his gaze still swept across the rear-view mirror because he couldn't help himself.
His gaze fell on Fiona. Has she always been this thin? How can someone so skinny never get sick?
Tony saw Darwin leave and let out a sigh of relief as he asked, 'Ms. Fiona, did Mr. Darwin know that we got the R&K deal back?”
"He knows," Fiona nodded, "When I was talking with Mr. Newton, he was there."
The group looked at each other, their gazes subtly changed. It turned out it was Mr. Darwin who supported Fiona?
But according to rumors, didn't Mr. Darwin dump her? Miss Ford regretted it a bit. If she had known that Fiona’s backer was still around, she would never have dared to act arrogantly with her.
Fiona couldn't be bothered to explain. She hadn't slept well last night and didn't eat well at lunch. Hence, she wasn't feeling very well now.
"Ms. Fiona, you don't look good. Are you feeling unwell?" Miss Ford asked with concern.
"It's nothing." Fiona shook her head and headed straight to the car.
The contract was already signed before four o’clock. What Tony didn’t expect was that the contract amount was increased by one third from R&K’s side because of the changes Fiona made. Additional investment was required to achieve the desired results.
After leaving the meeting room, Tony gave Fiona a thumbs up and said, 'Ms. Fiona, I really admire you...'"
Before Fiona could speak, a voice came from behind. "Is the sales department at Solomon better than our team at R&K?"
Everyone turned around in astonishment. Tony wondered who was so brave as to provoke them but when he saw who it was, he immediately became timid.
“Mr. Newton! Why are you here too?”
"It's my company, so it's normal for me to be here, right?" Newton said, walking up to Fiona as he asked, “Fiona, you’re no longer working at Solomon?”
"Yeah, I've already submitted my resignation letter." Fiona nodded.
Newton seemed kind, reminding Fiona of her grandfather.
“Perfect! I happen to need a vice president to be in charge of the planning department. You should come.”
Everyone was shocked.
Vice president?
Tony also panicked, but he didn’t dare to openly compete with Newton for personnel. Hence, he could only watch Fiona eagerly.
Fiona smiled gently, "Mr. Newton, I appreciate your kind offer, but I don't plan on growing my career in Bay City."
"Don't rush to answer me. Go back and think about it. Even if you're not in Bay City, R&K has branches all over the world. As long as you want to, you can work for me from anywhere you want to.”
Newton wasn’t in a hurry and handed Fiona a business card.
"Alright, Mr. Newton, I will definitely consider it," Fiona took the business card.
Newton then led the people and entered the conference room next door.
“Ms. Fiona, are you leaving Bay City?” Miss Ford asked. Although Fiona had offended her before, Fiona had gained her admiration in the short half-day of interaction, aside from the fact that Darwin was still her backer. Working with her was also comfortable. If Tony really recruited her into the team, she would agree without hesitation.
"Uh huh."
Fiona had only decided last night. She realized that her understanding of Darwin was too one-sided. Just in case, for her sake, she couldn't continue staying in Bay City.
As the sales department returned in triumph, Tony immediately wanted to celebrate. But...
“Before you all celebrate, we still have other matters to resolve,” Fiona said calmly.
The crowd immediately lost their spirits. It was regarding the mole.
"Ms. Fiona, since we've secured the contracts, let's celebrate!" Donald said cheerfully.
"I won't participate in the sales department's celebration. Let's settle things first, so I can leave," Fiona showed no mercy.
"Ms. Fiona, now that we've secured the contracts..." Miss Ford also wanted to say something.
"I know what you're thinking. You are united and like a family. Naturally, no one wants to have a mole within the family." Fiona scanned the crowd, stern and imposing. "Unfortunately, you all made the fatal mistake of using me as a scapegoat. I won't be taken advantage of and I must uncover who this person is and ensure they are severely punished!"
Tony's face turned somewhat gloomy. Fiona didn't even utter a curse word, yet she berated the entire sales department. To be honest, when the data went wrong, he had considered that there might be an internal problem.
However, if the issue was with the sales department, he would certainly suffer as well.
Coincidentally, someone suggested that Fiona provided the data, so it might be her doing. With Tony's approval, Fiona became the scapegoat.
"Ms. Fiona, you signed that data sheet!" Donald sneered. "Even if the CEO gave you the green light, you’re still responsible for it.”
Fiona glanced at him. "Donald, do you think you did everything so covertly that there's not a single piece of evidence left behind?"
“Fiona! Are you insane? How dare you accusing people with no proof?” Donald exploded immediately.
"Doesn’t the bank account with the last four digits being 3467 in Switzerland belong the your mother?” Fiona asked slowly.
Donald froze.
“On the 8th, 9th, and 11th of last month, Harvey’s Mr. Shepherd made six transfers to this account, totaling to an amount of three million." Fiona smiled.
"Coincidentally, the 8th was the day I gave the project department their data."
On this R&K project, Harvey's was Solomon's most formidable competitor.
