Chapter 500 Crashing a Masterclass

When appearing in public or on financial channels, Darwin always presented himself in suits with his hair slicked back, portraying the image of a domineering CEO. However, today, his hair lay smooth, and he looked much younger and less intimidating than at formal events. His attire was simply casual wear.

Above all, whether with Chicago or his wife, he was far too calm and tender. This was a stark contrast to the rumors of his brutality; he seemed like a different person altogether.

The lawyer had only seen Darwin once before, at an industry summit she attended with her client. Darwin, a specially invited guest, made a brief appearance and then left the scene.

As he was leaving, a man suddenly charged out with a dagger. The man wasn't there to assassinate Darwin. That would be unrealistic given the number of bodyguards around Darwin—a man who looked like he could take on eight attackers himself. It seemed like the man wanted to beg Darwin for a chance or something, placing the blade against his own throat and threatening that if Darwin didn't give him the chance, he would die right there.

The lawyer, being close to the incident, heard clearly when Darwin responded to the man's threat, "Move the knife up two centimeters; you won't kill yourself like that."

Then, he walked away, completely disregarding the man.

Naturally, the man did not harm himself. When security dragged him out, he was cursing Darwin as a heartless monster void of emotion.

The next morning, families woke up to find out that the people they had encountered the day before were from a top-tier financial dynasty, including the couple and their child.

Bobby's dad was skeptical and immediately went online to search for Darwin's name. Photos of Darwin were scarce, but they managed to find his pictures from public events.

"It's really Mr. Darwin," he muttered in disbelief.

"Damn, I heard rumors that Darwin married an heir of the Rhoads family and suddenly they had two kids. Never expected to actually run into them myself!"

"A tycoon couple and their genius offspring?" Frank’s mom said, her face a picture of shock.

"Did we just get a free masterclass last night?" Bobby's mom said, bewildered. "Fiona is the shining star of Wall Street!"

"No wonder she has such a sharp perspective on issues!" Evelyn's dad couldn't help but give a thumbs up.

"We should keep an eye on internet gossip, or else we wouldn't recognize people when we see them," Frank’s mom mused.

The lawyer mom shook her head. "It's probably for the best we didn't recognize them. They might have felt the need to keep their distance."

"True..."

Everyone was wondering if they would have the chance to bump into the family again today.

However, after breakfast, the Darwin family set off to return to Bay City.

This trip had been enlightening for Chicago.

After getting home, she rushed into her art studio.

Meanwhile, Fiona was busy packing the things Charles would need for the hospital.

"Mommy." Charles approached.

"What is it?" Fiona asked gently.

"I've put all the passwords for my devices in here." Charles handed a palm-sized metal box to Fiona.

Fiona was startled. "What's this for? Charles, a bone marrow transplant isn't that risky..."

"It's not guaranteed," Charles said calmly. "This is the security token for my personal bank account. The password is your and my sister's birthdays. There's over ten million dollars in there. If something happens to me, apart from the money for brother's mom's treatment, you manage the rest."

Tears immediately welled up in Fiona's eyes.

"For every birthday, every holiday, you should use this money to buy gifts for yourself and my sister," Charles continued.

"You're not going to have any issues."

Fiona hugged Charles tightly.

"You're my precious boy, I don't need any of this. All I need is for you to be alright."

Charles felt a bit helpless.

He originally intended to give it to Burl.

However, Burl cries too much.

Once he starts, he can't stop.

Charles thought it over.

So, he decided it was best to leave it with his mother.

"Just keep it for now, and when I'm better, give it back to me," Charles said, patting Fiona on the back.

In the evening, Chicago came out of her art studio, her heart full of joy.

After dinner, she finally noticed that Charles's things had been packed up again.

Fiona took the opportunity to explain that they had found a suitable match for Charles's transplant, and she needed to prepare him for the hospital.

And this time, Chicago couldn't accompany them.

"Once the transplant is done, Charles will be all better, right?" Chicago asked, her eyes red and teary, as she fought back the tears, seeking confirmation from her mom.

"Absolutely." Fiona nodded, giving her an affirmative answer.

"Okay." Chicago nodded earnestly. "Mommy, don't worry, I will be good, won't cause any trouble, and I'll wait at home for Charles to come back!"

After saying this. she stood firm, holding back her tears. "I won't cry either!"

Fiona gently embraced her and kissed her on the forehead.

She knew Chicago was scared.

Originally, Charles was supposed to go to the hospital tonight.

However, he stayed one more night.

He didn't leave for the hospital until the next morning.

The following day, it was Thalassa and Kenny who took Chicago and Jessie to the little park.

Chicago seemed distracted.

Jessie, too, seemed down because of her mood.

"Guess that's how it is with twins; whenever Charles is sick, Chicago just feels it more," Thalassa said, following behind Chicago and the dog, arm in arm with Kenny, feeling both heartbroken and helpless.

"Chicago's got a strong sense of empathy," Kenny commented, holding Thalassa's hand.

"I just wish she wasn't so empathetic," Thalassa muttered.

She wanted Chicago to be happy all her life. With such strong empathy, she'd likely suffer more as she grew up.

Just then, Chicago's gaze was suddenly drawn to a bench on the side of the road.

She looked at the bench, blinked her eyes, then turned to look at Kenny.

Kenny smiled at her and then made a gesture to stay quiet.

Chicago nodded, and mimicked the gesture to stay silent.

"What are you two miming about?" Thalassa asked with a faux stern look, glancing between the young and the elder.

Chicago shook her head, her mood lifting slightly. "You ask Godfather!"

After speaking, she turned back around and continued walking the dog leisurely.

"Godfather?" Thalassa turned to Kenny.

"A little secret that I can only tell you later," Kenny whispered back.

"That's not fair... You two are so mean, piquing someone's curiosity and then saying nothing," Thalassa huffed, about to withdraw her arm from Kenny's, but he wouldn't allow it.

He held onto her hand firmly.

At that moment, Thalassa's phone buzzed in her pocket.

It was unexpected call from someone on Maria's side of the family.

She dismissed the call and blocked the number in one fluid motion.

Meanwhile, on the other end, the person who was cut off cursed and tried to call back.

However, what awaited him was nothing but the cold voice of an automated message.
"I've been blocked too!" the man exclaimed, tossing his phone aside in frustration. "Did you raise an ingrate? Now that she's all grown up and making money, she's forgotten about his own parents?"
